If you're going after Foles, and I don't have a problem with that, you had better make the O line your priority. He is a pocket passer and our interior O line is awful.
He couldn't recognize that Tim Tebow had the worst throwing motion that I have ever seen coming into the NFL. Failing to realize this has always made me severely question his ability to find the next QB.
DC intrigues me. I think with Gase we moved into an ultra finesse team. I think a more balanced approach would behoove us. I love his toughness, and we need some element of that. I would definitely interview him. I would really like to know who his coordinators would be and what his plan would be for finding the QB of the future. He would have great insight on Bridgewater.
We need a good cheap rookie. Then we could afford other players. And we owe tannehill 13 mil. Next year? Don’t we? If so it’s tannehill and a rookie next year? Most of the young qb’s I see are fun to watch.
I liked Gase but yeah, I got tired of the finesse stuff as well. For instance, Tannehill's TD catch.....did we really need to run a double reverse with a pass option to score from two yards out? It was cute and all, but we also walked straight down the field and likely could have just ran it in on a simple hand-off. I remember thinking to myself, "What a drama queen type of play!" I think that's the first time I've ever reacted that way to a Dolphins TD in the history of the game...I was too annoyed to be happy.
I think I read it's cheaper to cut Tannehill after June 1st? Don't hold me to that....I just saw it in passing.
Has it ever happened that a coach fired by a team (DC was essentially fired) came back to that team as a HC? Not sure I see that as a realistic option. Not really a big fan either way, but I get the appeal.
Just look at our WR corps. With the exception of Parker, it was exclusively short little burners. I have never seen a team built that way. It is totally fine having one or two guys like that, but you cannot build an entire unit that way. If you watched the Minnesota Massacre, the Vikings would send the house and our WRs were still covered because they could get jammed at the line. We need some size/physical WRs.
Yeah....but I can't tell you who. If my fading memory serves me correctly, one of the big name coaches from the 80's left and then came back a few years later. Let me figure out how to Google search for it and I'll let you know.
He wasn't fired, the position was never permanent when he took it. At worst, they rejected his job application and let him move on.
Well, Grant and Wilson led the league in separation and the time to separation- they were #1 and #2 in both categories. So while I agree with you, the bigger issue was that Stills, Amendola and Parker are all role players that need that fast twitch receiver to help them get open. We clearly weren't the same team without them.
Can we fire him now though with that designation? We don't have to wait until June 1st, do we? I imagine they'll try to trade him for the next few months and then cut him, but I really don't want to wait 6 months to hear we're moving on.
When you give someone the job and then take it away ... that's essentially firing them. He had a legit shot at removing the interim tag when he took over, and it didn't happen. How much that might affect his decision making if we knock again, I don't really know, but I think it's possible he may prefer to avoid Miami. In the end, it's just my own theory however.
He honestly might be worth a pick to a team like the Jags but if they know we will cut him probably not much.
You can't cut any players at the moment. You have to wait until the offseason officially begins. Then you can designate players a pre or post June 1 cut.
That sounds Patriotish, though I think it's not a bad thing to prioritize guys who may give it their all even if they may be a tad behind otherwise. If we are reading between the lines there however ... McDaniels or Flores? Not sure how I feel, the BB coaching tree looks like one of those trees that gets hit by a big bolt of lightning.
They didn't give him the job though. They gave him the interim title. It's really a semantics thing though not important. I have no idea whether he'd like to be here or not, but personally I'd prefer we avoided it. I'm not sure what qualifications he actually has to be a full time HC.
True, but isn't Foles a FA after this year? If they choose to keep Foles and give up Wentz, we're spending another pick or more to get him. That's why I suggested Foles, if you're giving up draft capital for Harbaugh. Either way... with the rest of today's news now, I see this team going with a new/first time coach, probably defensive minded, and all of this talk is worthless. In a way, I feel a bit bad for Grier. He's competing now with what, 8 other teams for coaches? We have no QB. We don't have a ton of cap space. We have a roster with some young potential, a CB due who wants to be the highest paid, no real pass rush or DL. It's going to be tough to lure a quality coaching candidate in what's being considered a fairly weak class of ready coaching candidates and a not so stacked QB supply in FA and the draft.
Campbell has been down in New Orleans since leaving here as part of Payton's staff, and I believe he's got the title of Assistant HC. So he's getting some on the job training there. Definitely more qualified now, than he ever was at the time we made him the interim.
Are you serious? He had ZERO control of that team on or off the field and should have been fired years ago.
Grant is so undersized. Once his role was expanded due to other players' injuries, he got injured. My gut tells me that less is more with Grant. I think that in the end, he is a situational player. As for Wilson, I love that dude. The dude runs smooth routes, is reliable, and has great hands. I look forward to seeing him in 2019. WR is not our biggest issue at the moment. Look for us to slowly add talent. I really think that priority #1, even more than QB, should be getting better in the trenches.
Honestly was it that bad? This coaching market is pretty bad all around They weren't even a real team before he got there for what its worth.
forget about level A candidates if Grier has final say on roster. We'll be picking from the bottom of the barrell
Look how long he was there with talent. The scandals on and off the field should have cost his job many times.
Honestly, coaches shouldn't be picking players Im not upset about that. I think with Gase we saw what happens when a potentially good coach stretches themself too thin and into too many areas. Coaches should coach. They should have some say of course but still.
The trenches should be every teams #1 priority, every season. I can't preach that enough....you need to have 16 studs that are ready to go on any snap (8 on offense/8 on D). An average RB looks like a superstar behind a solid line, so how that's not everyone's #1 goal is mind-boggling to me. Football is won and lost in the trenches.
I don't think it's that teams don't try. There are only so many quality linemen though and 32 teams. I mean look at us. We are pretty good at LT and RT but it's been hard trying to find consistency in the middle. It hasn't been a lack of effort IMO. Defensively though...we need to retool the line entirely.
I cant tell you how much I agree with this. Build the darn lines and I Guarantee the whole team will look better.
I think Grier does have his work cut out for him. What kind of coaches will a team in rebuild mode attract? That said, it depends on the guy. Maybe a good coach wants to be apart of something like this because the goal is to build it up right and not keep doing what we have been doing. To me, that's not a bad thing and the right guy will be attracted to a situation like this. I am not looking at this as a bad thing at all. There are some very good coaches out there which might not make someone's A list. That doesn't mean they can't come in a be a good coach for us.
