Hope he can do it again next season and play a full 16 games. If he can do that, then give him the big contract.
He said he wants to be paid as the highest corner in the league.. Better stop and make sure that philosophy wise, that makes sense for this franchise.
Would New England, would Kansas City, Pittsburg, or the Seahawks? Nope not one of them would overpay. I hope they can make it work but we’re in pretty bad cap space for the next few years already thanks to tannenbomb. We have the least cap space out of our division even if we cut Ryan, wake, And more key players. What I want to see is a stout running game with a new a new smart qb who can learn as he goes and still compete. We need a strong defense to do this
I'm really against giving Howard up. With almost no pass rush last year we had a boundary corner in Howard who shuts off one side if the field as well as Fitz proving he can lock down the slot. I'm really hard pressed to give up a duo who can take 2 offensive options away without help.
He deserves to be one of the top paid corners, but he also has to remain healthy and productive. So you make him an incentive-based contract where he has the potential to be very well paid. We can't keep letting top talent walk (especially when they're homegrown) and he's clearly elite. Pay the man...easiest decision we've had to make in a very long time.
Call either the Cardinals (1st pick) or the 49ers (2nd pick) to offer Xavien Howard, Charles Harris, and our 1st round pick (13th) for their pick in order to get Dwayne Haskins, our franchise QB. Cut Tannehill. Use the cap savings to get depth at CB and DL in free agency. Round 1 (#1 or #2) - QB Haskins Round 2 - Offensive Guard/Center Round 3 - Offensive Guard/Center
It's all talk and posturing at this time. Start high, then negotiate to a reasonable point. Realistically, I dont think there is any way we should pay him a record deal unless a large portion is not under guarantee. His health and lack of multi year consistency are trouble spots. We will need to pay him a pretty big contract in the end, but record setting? Probably not.
I could be wrong, but isnt 100% of the maximum incentives "reserved" under the cap and doesnt really provide cap relief?
You can't afford to let high level DBs get away. Especially when he's like the only young golden goose we have. Trade talk better include a top QB that's still relatively young. And since no franchise in their right mind would do that, X will get paid and he will stay in Miami I hope!.. Sick of the Xavien trade talk it's irritating to me for some reason. Probably because I know we suck at almost every other position.
Howard's 7 picks are tied for the 6th most in team history, behind five players who had 8. Dick Anderson did it in both 1970 and 73, Jake Scott in 74, and then in 1998, both Sam Madison and Terrell Buckley had 8 on the same Fins team. Those were fun days. No Fins player has ever had more than eight. Howard is the first Dolphin since Pat Surtain in 2003 to have at least seven in a season, and in fact no Miami player had more than five picks in a season between 2003 and 2018.
