Wow. Player after player is coming out advocating for Coach Rizzi. I think he is a great Special Teams Coach, maybe the best I dont know. I cant recall seeing anything quite like this. I hadnt really considered It a serious proposition but with support like this maybe we should.
I think we could give up one first rounder but not two. That would take us out of 2019 and 2020. I think if Grier wheels and deals it will be trading down to acquire more picks. I think free agency will be slow. This is more a vibe I'm getting from what Ross said but who knows. Grier is kind of tight lipped
Like the one quote said, if you have Jason Taylor petitioning for you and other top former players saying that Rizzi was the reason they played the way they did....I don't see what else is left to say. If we're hearing it in the media then I guarantee you that phones are blowing up at Fins headquarters. He may have a legit shot after all.
Didn't spot it but as the Tweet points out, J Jenkins and M Smith are in the comments on Damien's IG post.
If you had to choose between the Dolphins having Rizzi has HC or losing him altogether, what would you pick?
Wow! I am really impressed with the player support for Rizzi. I almost can hear Grier say the same about Rizzi that Ross said about him regarding having the best guy for the job already in the building.
It's my understanding that one of the biggest questions candidates need to answer during the interview is who would they use for their staff.
Head Coach - Darren Rizzi Off. Coordinator - Kliff Kingsbury Def. Coordinator - Mike Nolan Honestly, the many player endorsements of Rizzi is pretty damn impressive. It shows that he has the #1 quality needed to be our head coach...he's a true leader of men. The Dolphins haven't had that in a LONG time, in my opinion. Our players have made it pretty clear who they want to sweat & bleed for. I can't argue with that. Kliff Kingsbury would be my #1 option to mold our new QB and bring the Phins into offensive relevancy. While coaching in college he molded top offenses with Baker Mayfield, Patrick Mahomes, and Case Keenum. Having top 10 offenses is nothing new to Kingsbury. He's currently the offensive coordinator at USC, but he is taking NFL interviews. We need to pounce on that. Mike Nolan would be a familiar choice for defensive coordinator. Nolan was the Phins' defensive coordinator when Rizzi first joined the staff. During his two-season stint in Miami, the Dolphins tied for second in the NFL in opponent red zone touchdown percentage, ranked sixth in opponent net yards per game, seventh in run defense and eighth in pass defense in 2010 and finished third against the run, sixth in opponent points per game and opponent red zone touchdown percentage, seventh in third-down defense and tenth in sacks in 2011. He also has head coaching experience with San Fran. He is currently the LB coach for the Saints. Get rid of Tannehill. Use the cap savings to fill defensive holes in free agency (let the Nolan coach his veteran defense). Draft a QB and 2 interior offensive linemen with our first 3 picks (let Kingsbury mold his young offense). Rizzi will motivate and inspire.
Here's a thought about Rizzi... if potential coaching candidates do see the Miami job as less attractive than others being offered, then we may simply have no option but to go with Rizzi. Not saying that's a bad result, just pondering the possibility that Rizzi will be the only option we have.
So you're saying we could be stuck with him! I'm completely impressed how he is getting so much support by so many players. Retired guys like Taylor, guys that Gase cast off like Williams and Pouncey, others that have scattered around the league and of course so many guys on the roster. Really speaks volumes. I'm still more interested in Bienemy, that Andy Reid tree keeps on giving, Fangio or maybe Richards. I am less interested in Flores because the Belicheck coaching tree has more pruned limbs than successful branches. But with all this support coming out for Rizzi, it's just coming in waves, you have to sit back and take note.
Sort of - I just didn't want to put it like that. If he does become HC then we'll see what happens, but the circumstances surrounding his arrival would colour it all. Was he chosen above others as the best man for the job, or was he the only option left... that will affect how things are perceived.
If you are paying millions of dollars, I'd at least want to sit in. C'mon. Probably going back to Atlanta.
If we are going into a full rebuild and tank mode, then it doesn't really matter what the candidate's win-loss record elsewhere is because the Ws and Ls are not tge priority. The priority is that they have a strong personality and are a good leader of men, and they are capable of build a strong culture and foundation through player development. Did Dennis Allen do that in Oakland? I'm not sure, but if he did, then that might be one reason he's a candidate because he's experienced a rebuild before. The other is he has built a pretty solid defense with the Saints and has rebuilt his reputation, so there are positives to his candidacy even if his record is poor.
I would be ok with quite of few of the candidates, but for some reason I am not feeling it with Allen.
I wish Ross would leave this decision to Grier. If he runs the football side of things, let him hire someone he is comfortable working with. Ross has proven his incompetence when it comes to making football decisions. I don't care if it is his money.
I hear ya, and I hope Ross will defer to Grier for the hire. However, I am ok with him being there as long as he is ready to give the go ahead to any salary demands that may come up for the HC and his staff. Money talks, and if we can snag an up and comer by paying a slight premium for his services then I am all for it. Of course, that is easy for me to say when it's not my money.
There was speculation that the Dolphins were interviewing Allen today. In fact, Ross' jet was scheduled to fly to New Orleans after the interview with Bienemy in KC. However, that schedule changed even before he left from New England and he is no longer scheduled to fly to N.O. He hasn't left KC as of yet.
It's probably been mentioned already, but I heard they are working on a trade or a good offer for Harbaugh.
