I’m fine with vanilla if we have players that can move the ball. We should be able to get 2-3 yards a run in the NFL and a capable QB should be able to get 5-6 yard passes. Just keep the chains moving. Build that bulldozing Offensive line and a quick / accurate qb

When reading that, I also saw that Caldwell's OL used a power scheme. Do you have a preference between power and zone?

What's the difference? Where does a retooling stop and a rebuild begin?

I guess this would be subjective, but I think most teams retool every offseason. Whereas, if we do a total rebuild, then we might shed some major contracts, and sign guys who fit a certain prototype and fit the plan. It would be nice if we could stockpile draft picks; however, I don't know how I would feel to give up the guys we have who could command picks (lower round?). They most likely would be our younger more productive guys and that would be sort of defeating the purpose. Especially since we know they can play in the NFL and a we don't know that yet with someone selected in the draft.

To rebuild something (lets say a house) you must tear it down to the very foundation or close.

To retool, you just need to tear down the areas you don't like while keeping your current valued pieces.

    In my eyes.

    Patrick Graham rumoured for DC.

FYI - I haven't seen anything to say that Graham is confirmed yet.

    I have to disagree Unlucky.

I mean, these guys aren't Shula, Belichick, and McCarthy (yet...lol), but all the people above the line of Galant's schematic (besides Loggains) are worth the hire, IMO.

We've talked a lot about the others, but not Graham.

Before arriving in Green Bay, Graham coached the defensive line for two years with the New York Giants and spent seven years as a defensive assistant coach for the New England Patriots. He also graduated from and play at Yale.

I found a nice little article from August 2018 on what the Patriots run on defense. It might give us an idea of what we can expect with Flores. Something I found notable is that they adjust their defense to fit their personnel. No expert here, but I didn't always get the impression we did that, so I hope that is one of the changes we see going forward.

Understatement of the year! (which isn't yet that long lol).

A main reason we got rid of so many good players was because Gase couldn't figure out how to adapt to the personnel he had. It's a major reason I dispute this notion that Gase has a great football mind. You have to show the ability to adapt to the personnel you have or you vastly limit the types of solutions your team can implement.

Average coaches run systems. If they catch lightning in a bottle, like a great (especially cheap) QB or get lucky in the draft, they are always fitting square pegs in round holes. Innovators, like Belichick, modify their scheme, not just year to year in training camp, but series to series, depending on available personnel. The level of attention to detail that requires is a rare talent. I don't expect Flores to have it, none of Belichick's other assistants were sharp enough to implement his vast knowledge.

If you watched them they would do this on a game by game basis or even after a halftime they adjusted in the fly. Miami and so many other draft players to fit their single system when in reality free agency, injuries etc constantly break those systems down and expose your weakness. Draft football players, smart athletic, self motivated players who can do more than one thing good. Pass a stud run stuffer if you can draft a slightly less run stuffer but who cover as well.

Build a versatile team, not a set team. New England has done that for years! They adjust to personel

Vague rumours flying around that maybe Flores is looking at bringing another Patriots WR coach over as OC - Chad O'Shea. Not much to confirm it though.

I want him to bring online coach DeGuglielmo from the colts to Miami. He will be the best online coach we have had in probably 10-12 years. He also coached with Flores before so their is a link! I would be excited at this hire!!

I know he got a little too "excited" a couple years ago and it led to a suspension, but Brian Baldinger has been posting some breakdowns on his Twitter showing just how multiple the Pats D was against the Chiefs last night, if anyone wanted a potential glimpse on what we could see next year.

Given that Graham has mostly coached in a 3/4 front at the NFL level, I would have to expect that's what we'll be doing as well. Between now and April of 2020, I bet that the overwhelming majority of our front seven is switched out.

Which is a shame. Because our best LB is 22 years old and is most definitely not a 3-4 fit.

People more educated than me on the matter have suggested that Baker could be a nickle and dime specialist as a coverage guy on passing downs, even if he isn't part of the standard 3/4 front. He and McMillian might swap out depending on the situation.

So...I know things will change, but right now we have:

    Robert Quinn (DE)
    Jonathan Woodard (DE)
    Charles Harris (DE)
    Andre Branch (DE)
    Cameron Wake (DE)
    Jeremiah Valoaga (DE)
    William Hayes (DE)

    Kendrick Norton (DT)
    Ziggy Hood (DT)
    Akeem Spence (DT)
    Davon Gadchaux (DT)
    Jamiyus Pittman (DT)
    Vincent Taylor (DT)
    Garrison Smith (DT)

    Jerome Baker (LB)
    Raekwon McMillian (LB)
    Kiko Alonzo (MLB)
    Mike Hull (OLB)
    Stephone Anthony (OLB)
    Sam Equavoen (LB)
    Quentin Poling (LB)
    James Burgess (LB)
    Chase Allen (LB)

I am curious. Not just talking about Baker's fit for a 4-3, but considering the depth we will need to get through the season, can we make the switch to 3-4? Are there any guys we have that would be a better fit for the 3-4? We are tooled for the 4-3. As with Carmen, I would like to see us be more varied on defense and be able to adapt to the offense, but it sure seems like we have a lot of work to do regardless of what scheme we run. Thoughts?

Still absolutely no insight into the offensive side of the ball, which is the one I'm concerned about. (other that Caldwell being a mentor). The game of musical chairs is basically over, and we get to pick through the trash heap to see what's left.

All I can say is I hope they have some commitments we haven't heard about yet. We saw, to our detriment, what happens when a coaching staff is seriously lacking. It also doesn't help that Arians hired half the NFL to help coach the Bucs (grrrrrrr.)!

Wake, Hayes, Hood, Williams, and Anthony are UFA. I would say all but Wake are almost guaranteed to be gone, and he might retire too. Hull is RFA.

Quinn, Branch, spence and Alonso are likely cut for both cap and performance reasons.

Which leaves Harris, Godchaux, Taylor and Norton on the DL, and McMillan, Baker and Allen at LB.

Plus the other practice squad types who haven't really played for the team yet.
