Not sure what you’re trying to say here, regardless, if you’re a pats fan now, then why are you complaining? If Flores is a terrible hire, then you should happy, no?
Yeah.. don't worry we'll win a SB sometime in the future again though it might take awhile (and I'm willing to wait). More interesting question is whether your decision to bolt to NE was relatively bad timing. I mean.. I'd predict NE's dominance is going to come to an end in the next few years. Belichick is getting up there in age and so is Brady. What if NE isn't good anymore? Which team are you going to next?
I didnt say Flores was a terrible hire Flores has potential to be very good under a head coach. Flores is not HC material IMO pedigree means very little. Take the Shulas as a example. Mike was very good under the Godfather, not so good outside What I am saying is to turn this team around there needs to be a HC like Wade Phillip's - proven, been there, done that, respected HC to set a path to greatness. Without WP the Rams wouldn't even be sniffing the show
Umm... We knew that when he was hired and since you haven't been keeping up, Tannenbaum was reassigned (fired) when Gace (your spelling, not mine) was fired. Also, I have tons of respect for those around here who have stuck with their team and not quit on them to run off and jump on the Patriots bandwagon so they can root for a winner. IMO, the fans around here are the true winners for sticking with the team during tough times. We may discuss, argue, disagree, and yes, even sometimes insult each other, but we are Dolphin fans and are passionate about our team.
Until finally deciding to step away. I was miserable for 6+ months of the year. I have so much Miami memorabilia that I probably could buy a new 2019 Chevy Silvarado. I been following the phins since the 70's. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the Marino years, the fact is this franchise hasn't won **** since 1973. I switched because no longer am I about to put a bullet in my head.on Sundays. No longer do I throw things around the room and at the TV. I have been at piece for the last 4 yrs. The Pat's are greatness. Never again in history will this be accomplished again. I am part of that - how ever small my little support as an individual . Brady by himself has as many as or more superbowl rings then all 30 other teams entire history
He is in a short leash in NE. You dont coach special teams for 4 years Safeties for 1 and linebackers for 1 and.you are NFL HC material - come on man - really Your buying this nonsense they are putting out
Well there's one difference between you and me. I never think the team's decisions are my own decisions. So while I am as much of a fan as any out there, losses don't make me feel like some part of me died. In other words I'm a fan but still only an observer of the team, not part of it. Well to each his own. But if you thought the way I did you wouldn't have bolted. Just saying.. (I think the only thing that would make me bolt is if they changed the name.. or totally ****ed up the insignia lol)
Well now you are getting somewhere. I was not aware Tannenbaum was fired when Gase was fired. Maybe there is hope after all Still need that Franchise QB. I would target Trever Lawrence. I have.been to his games. He is without a doubt one of the best QBs that will come out since Marino. I would do whatever it takes and then build around him - 5 yr plan
I havent bolted. I still like this team very much. It's like watching your teenager learn **** the hard way. I am observing from a distance and I wish you guys greatness and Gods Speed in rebuilding now that Tannenbaum is gone - that guys a cancer
I am not buying anything. I have no idea if he is head coach material. I am not a member of the Patriots staff. I am not in the interviews. Your statement is ridiculous
100% agreed. I'm actually excited to have a room full of guys who paid their dues to get where they are. It doesn't mean success but I have no doubt they will be putting their heads down and getting to work.
I know, right? This aint our 1st rodeo! We are hopeful, but that is all we can be no matter who we bring in here.
How...I mean....who can....how is it possible that....wait a minute here. How the F*** can a die hard fan of a particular professional sports team, decide to just say **** it, I'm rooting for the rivalry team now because they're better right now than my favorite team.? You say you were a Dolphins fan since the 70's ( as am I), and you can just jump ship and turn your loyalty to a division rival? What happens when the Pat's suck again? Latch on to the team that's successful at that time? I personally don't give a rats a** what anyone does but your decision definitely undermines the true definition of being a "fan". Your rooting loyalty should have an asterisk next to it. * Patriots fan * - for now.
You can see a common theme with BB's coordinators turned failed head coaches. They aren't leaders of men. Many were probably pretty dang good at Xs and Os. But you don't have to be a leader of a small village type when you're the coordinator. You can be a great Xs and Os guy. Being a great head coach has less to do with Xs and Os than many other things. Organization, leadership, relationship builder, commander, detail, etc. I am not saying Flores is that. In fact the main reason I was against Flores hiring was because I thought he was in the same breathe as Weis and Crennel has a leader of men. I don't know that for a fact, but that is the way he comes across. Time will reveal the truth however.
Bogles the mind doesn't it. Can't imagine bailing on the Phins to cheer for the Pats, Jets or Bills (or the Colts for that matter!). That is crazy to me. I have other teams I cheer for but the Fins are My team and have been for 47 of my soon to be 54 years.
To be fair, I'm not sure I would have pegged Sean McVay out of a line up of men as the next head coach of my football team.
You didn't answer my question, why are you here and complaining if you're a fan of the Pats now? Also, if Flores will never be a good HC, then it is a terrible hire. Wade Phillips was a HC and failed, miserably at it. I'm not saying Flores will good or awful, btw.
Saban is just flat out a good football coach. He's a snake, and we had some crappy personnel in his brief tenure here too. Weis was pretty good coaching at ND wasn't he? Crennel is a good coach as well. May be better as a co-ordinator, but it's hard to say. IIRC, he wasn't exactly given an opportunity with good supporting talent. Schwartz is a good coach too IMO. I wouldn't call his time in Detroit a failure either, I also wouldnt' say mediocre. He was a great choice for them IMO to lead them away from the 0-16 mess. He did a great job in doing so, but just wore out his welcome Anyways... I don't mean to nit pick at your explanations, because they're pretty accurate, but my greater intention of making a point here was... Who did these guys all have at QB in their head coaching experience at the NFL level? Saban... Culpepper. Ouch. Schwartz... Stafford. Shoulda been a home run, but we're seeing Stafford just isn't good enough to get there. Possible as well they ruined him with those injuries early on with a lack of talent around him, especially on that OL. Mangini... did he ever have a QB? I'm not going to vouch for him though, because I don't think he was good at anything. Crennel... Weis... Who were there qb's in their HC stints? How was the supporting cast? Ugly IIRC... Garrett has had QB's... and always been slightly above average. He's underacheiving in all aspects IMO. Anyways.. ultimately, I think the success of a head coach depends on the QB he has IMO, and the supporting cast. Often these teams are pulling these guys off the Belichick "tree" to lead them out of the dumpster fires they've become. Overwhelmingly the odds are likely against them to succeed regardless of who's "tree" they came from. My personal opinion is that the marriage between a coach/leader, and a QB/leader is the most important. We all know this... yet we still evaluate the coach after 3 years, whether they managed to find him a good QB or not. Look at Gase... saddled to Tannehill, partly by his own doing. I'd say it's easy to say he got the most production and wins out of him, but you can't draw blood from a stone, right? You can only get so far, with so little. Same goes for alot of these guys on this list IMO. They're all good football coaches. Maybe not the best head coaches. Any of them could do it though, if the right talent and QB is in place. Who made New Orleans the good team they've been? Brees or Payton? I think it's safe to say they've done it together. Would they be as good if Payton was paired with Culpepper that year? Unlikely. Or would we be in their shoes now if we paired Brees with Saban? Will the Saints have the success they've had when Brees retires, and Payton stays? Depends who they replace Brees with. Then you look at McVay and Goff. Who's making that relationship work? It's not Goff IMO. It's McVay, but it works because they're working well together. It takes them both IMO. One usually elevates the other. Long story short, IMO... you can't say Flores won't be good because the Belichick tree hasnt had success. I think you need to look at the situations these guys went into. Did they really have a fighting chance? In alot of cases, they dont. I think that's why you see success stories for coaches the second time around. First chance at being a HC is often with a dumpster fire of a team. If they get a second chance, its because teams still realize theyre a good football coach (whether that's OC, DC, ST) and they get a shot, sometimes in a better position, and it just works. Ultimately, I think the success of these HC's depends on too many things to say they're the problem. I think you can look at that list and comfortably say not many of them really had the tools to help improve that team.
You just said “ you guys haven’t had a good coach since Shula” Your really not a dolphin fan?? Edit::: sorry late to the party.. Damn dude..that sounds pretty weird but rock on man..take care
Who did you like after shula? Jimmy johnson didn’t do good for us. Only hurricanes and cowboys. I can’t think of any coach i liked. Maybe wannstadt. But he was no shula. And i am unfortunately a dolphin fan. It wasn’t a choice. My memory is getting bad tho.
Guys, please don't make posts personal. As per always, discuss/attack the post, not the poster. Thanks.
2Socks, this isn't a personal shot at you. Just putting things into perspective, ok? The only time I ever really "followed" another team was when I was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, KS and due to the mass media market, was inundated with the Kansas City Chiefs and forced to watch them. Marty Schottenheimer (Should have been Shula's successor if you ask me) was the head coach...Steve DeBerg (best play action pass QB EVER IMO) was soon replaced by Joe Montana...Derrick Thomas, Marcus Allen. They were a fun team to watch but I never...NEVER stopped being a fan of my beloved Dolphins and whenever the Dolphins were actually shown on TV, the entire world stopped so I could watch them. "Fan" derives from the word "fanatic" and you are either fanatical about a particular sport and/or team or you are not. You can't just turn it on or off like a light switch. If you are a fan of the Patriots now, then you have always been a fan of the Patriots. You may "like" the Dolphins, but you aren't a fan of them, nor were you ever. Hell, I "like" the Packers and the Jaguars...even the Chiefs but I'm not a fan of any of those teams. A true FAN sticks with his/her team through thick and thin...ALWAYS.
This is a nice article, too. I think a lot of coaches say they want to be a smart, fundamentally sound team, but when things get rolling they move on too quickly and lose focus on the little details. However, in Flores's case I believe he means it because he has seen first hand how important those things are when it come to winning football. I am hopeful.
“Vince Lombardi understood the correct balance between loving your players and wanting to buddy up to them. He once said that a leader should never try to "close the gap" between himself and his team. He should love his team, serve his team, and sacrifice for his team - but he should never try to be one of the guys”
