I'm not too worried about scheme change spoiling some of the Dolphins young defensive talent.

I think given the coaching staff, there's a pretty clear range of flexibility to properly use the guys you have. Jerome Baker is a bit undersized, but it would be hard to expose him more to blockers than the defensive front he already looked pretty promising in. Instead he's going to get to play in a front that is going to put him behind a defense and keep his jersey clean with big down linemen over the Center and Guards.

I think there's also guys this is probably a big win for- Raekwon McMillan, for example. That Patriots defensive scheme is pretty consistently putting what the rest of the league would regard as run-down only linebackers on the field, and finding ways to keep them out of trouble in coverage.

A lot of our defensive ends are most at risk IMO, not only because of contract expiry but because of the new, expected scheme.

Could definitely see Wake shifted to a more pass-rushing specialist role, and Charles Harris will probably get a chance at OLB. It'd be interesting to see how they divvy up nickel responsibilities between Baker and Fitzpatrick.

What we really need (as noted in the above article) is a true NT if Godchaux does not make the switch, or a DE/DT if he does. I would really like a CB (Greedy Williams, DeAndre Baker) or a DE/DT (Ed Oliver, Rashan Gary) as the first pick of this upcoming draft. FO will have to decide whether they want to fill C, OG, or OLB with the rest of the picks.

Could use a FS too, unless they're playing Fitzpatrick there part-time to cover that responsibility for next year.

Fame seems to have some info on the guy. After reading this, I am not sure I want him. Don't get me wrong. I want the best OL coach we can get, but I don't want a guy who is such a jerk they had to fire him.

He coached here in 2009-2011 and I believe he was also here more recently such as 2016 or 2017. I heard he's just not a nice guy in general. Rubs people the wrong way, even though he's a good coach. He called one of the Colts players a failure because the guy was sad that his brother had just been murdered. Probably why he got fired even though the line played great.

Sound like the type of boss who gets good performances for 2 or 3 years then the staff mutiny. Not sure if I’d want that here because the mess those types of bosses leave behind takes a long time to clean up.

I know that we've had garbage coaches for a while, especially on the ol. But there has to be another possibility than a guy who gets run out of town because hes a jerk.

In the era of "political correctness", being fired for "being a jerk" has lost most of its meaning!

I agree that things are over PC a lot of the time, but if you can't feel for a guy who just had his brother murdered....that's kinda ****ed up.

One would assume that most NFL coaches fall into a "normal" personality range within the profession, as far as that goes. So if you then look at one guy, and see him being fired and/or choosing to move on over and over despite everyone saying that he's a good coach, its pretty clear that he's the outlier.

Not in sports. The coach who said that all day gay people should be put on an island and nuked still has a job

It seems to me that every year there are a lot of coaches that get fired shortly after black Monday. Some get fired sooner. After 5 or 10 years, most coaches have been fired at least once and possibly more often. Considering that there is a lot of turnover like this among NFL coaches, I feel you need to make a better argument against this coach if it is to have merit!

You can look at all of the stories about him being a jerk, and that should be enough. Most coaches don't have that trail behind them. Most good OL coaches can stay in one place for many years, even through different head coaches.

I feel like whenever people do this it should be necessary for them to share the thing that they did or said that they're butthurt about people getting mad at them for. It's never just an abstraction.

It actually disproves both your points.

If a person can keep their job in the NFL, doing things against the PC culture you claim exists, then for a another person to lose their job for being a jerk, then that person must be actually terrible.

    So that means:
    - the NFL isn't bound by the PC culture you claim it is
    - his jerktitude is probably pretty severe

A coach makes an extremely offensive statement ".... nuke them." and still has a job. This shows that not all "not politically correct" complaints get acted upon. There seem to be many that do carry over as a negative about an individual. Should a generalized complaint of " being a jerk" get emphasized and a gross and specific complaint "nuke them" is not emphasized, then the entire range of "politically correct" complaints becomes questionable as to their real value.

I hope this helps you see that this "inversion" of consequences vs. actions about complaints with extreme differences in in their degree of justification is a way of disproving a false representation of fairness. This is the "reverse kind of way" I am referring to.

The basic rule of thumb is that employers are willing to put up with a level of BS commensurate with the productivity you add.
It’s nothing to do with PC, Colin Kaeoernick for example is so woke he gets up and has breakfast before goes to bed, yet NFL teams aren’t willing to put up with his BS. If Patrick Mahomes did the political stuff Kaepernick did and the Chiefs fired him there’d be 31 other teams willing to put up with his BS. Lawrence Taylor did some pretty bad stuff off field (and on field too) but Bill Parcells put up with his BS because LT was the greatest defensive player of his generation.

If Flores is to become HC, I would focus more on the front 6, even 5, rather than 7. Nickel and Dime will be the main packages with the 3-4, or 4-3 looks being sub. Most of all have heard this and know the current defensive trends have veered substantially into these DB heavy packages, but we, as Dolphin fans, were rarely, if never, strongly familiar with them.

Now with Burke's incompetence flung out the door 3 years too late (he was an awful LB coach as well) we should see more variation with formation and personnel to match the opponent (hopefully).

From a quick scour across the web it appears the wondrous @Aqua4Ever04 (keep kicking ***, Wingfield) has provided some detail on NE's Nickel Bear front which they began using back in 2016, and have kept in their playbook for when needed. Here's look at NE's Ruby (Dime) package which features a 5 man front.

This package in particular is a variation of the great Monty Kiffen's Tampa 2 scheme, hence the name tag "Monty". It's a Tampa 2 Dime that emphasizes Belichick's philosophy to protect the MOF (middle of field). There is your typical deep hole drop by the Mike down the pipe, but his drop is exaggerated & deeper to protect the deep middle while also featuring a Rat. The Rat (SOLB/Buck) responsibility here will be similar of that of a robbing safety that rocks down to patrol the shallow middle in C1 and C3 coverages, so you have two defenders to man the MOF. This design also highlights a point made earlier by @Disgustipate in how Belichick keeps run defending LB's (Brandon Spikes, Dont'a Hightower, Elandon Roberts, etc.) out of trouble and in good position to play within certain pass coverages.

P.S. **** you, Gase; goddamn fraud and worthless sack of ****.

It impresses me in that (if it happens) it will be the first time a ex-subordinate has raided BB’s stash of assistant coaches. I’m sure other Belichick disciples have tried in the past, however this looks like the first time a BB disciple is leading other coaches to join him.

At the very least it will mean BB’s job will be harder next year because his staff will not be intact, as he normally only loses a co-ordinator. We know BB can replace co-ordinators easily, but this will be the first time we see him coping with losing a co-ordination and 3 or 4 other assistant coaches.

Veteran coach. This will be his 20th year in the NFL. He was with the Giants from 2004-2015, AKA Tom Coughlin's entire tenure. They finished with a top 10 offense nine different times. Some really good rushing teams, including 2008, when both Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward went over 1000 yards.
