Just for a bit of fun...

    Each person MUST:

1 - Listen to the last posted song
2 - Reply making a comment about that song
3 - In their reply post another song for the next person (comment on your song if you like).

I'll kick it off with something from the past. I didn't grow up with much country music. Started listening to some of the classics thanks to my in-laws. Don Williams is one of their favourites and when I stumbled onto this song it became a favourite.

A really simple, poetic, love song. Always happy to listen to it.

It reminds me a lot of the music that my grandparents would listen to when I was a kid, either visiting their house or riding in their car. That's not an insult! It brought back some memories of my earlier years. I was never into that type of country music, though I did listen to the modern stuff from the 90s when I was in HS and college.

This is High Hopes, which happens to be the final song of the Pink Floyd disography. Its from the album The Division Bell, which is one of my favorites of all time. I can't tell you how many times I listened to it while I was in college. I would recommend the entire album as well, because its best when listened to all at once, if you have the time. (warning, there is a small amount of PG-13 language in a few of the songs from the album)

Alright, so up front, I've never liked Pink Floyd. I've always found them a bit depressing - although I have almost exclusively only heard The Wall. My college first year roommate had it on repeat very often. That said, I determined to go into this with an open mind/ear. :)

Musically, I can see the appeal. They have a haunting and unique sound that really draws you into another world. It sort of reminded me of the feeling I used to get from some old school Amiga games like Shadow of the Beast (and I mean that in a good way).

I wasn't too keen on the sound of the lead singer's voice but... by the end of the song it blended in and became part of the music.

At this point, I'm still not sold on Pink Floyd, I still don't tend to like what I'd describe as depressing or melancholic music, and I'm not much of a prog. rock fan, and this lends itself to that. However, I think maybe I should give PF a second go, and take some time to have a listen to their stuff beyond The Wall. Maybe this album. I'll have a read of some lyrics too. I'm big on lyrics, so a deep or meaningful, well-written song can be a game changer for me, even beyond musical style.

    Thanks Unlucky!

This track is from a group called Burlap to Cashmere, they put out one album and then sort of vanished. They've come back but the second one wasn't quite as good. They've got some greek blood in them an it comes out through the spanish/mediterranean guitar solos.
The sound of this album will always be really nostalgic for me, and still holds up today.

Wasn't crazy for the first minute for the same reasons you didnt like Pink Floyd. Too depressing and very little structure. But I definitely enjoyed the song once it picked up steam. Good addition.

Liked the Don Williams and Pink Floyd also for what it's worth.

Here is a band I generally dont listen too. Not into the System Of A Down sound. But the band did this cover a few years ago. I just came across it and have been listening to it alot. Think its the best version of the song ever done.

I get where you guys are coming from. Not every song is for every person of course! I personally have always been drawn towards downbeat music. Its just my personality. I like to just put my headphones on and wallow for a while. When I was younger, I would spend hours at a time with the lights dim, my music on, and just stare out the window and get lost in thought. Floyd is perfect for that.

Pink Floyd is one of the best bands ever. Gnerally if you have one great album your entire career I consider your life to be well spent. Pink Floyd probably has four or five perfect albums (Dark Side, Animals, Wish You Were Here, The Wall). They almost need to be compared to the Beethovens and Mozarts instead of limited to other rock bands

I actually got into them in reverse. The Division Bell came out my senior year of HS. I heard a few of the songs, bought the album, and loved it. (as I said, still my favorite all these years later). Within the next year, I saw The Wall for the first time on VHS, and bought that one too. I was already familar with songs from Dark Side and Wish You Were Here, and soon bought those as well.

I heard this said a lot, and while I agree it's a worthwhile cover (as in, it's not a 1:1 safe cover a lot of musicians do), I find it hard to appreciate it over the original.

The original had those beautiful harmonies, and the upbeat middle section, the starts and stops, etc. Disturbed's version always came off too operatic and melodramatic for me.

Somewhere between The Isley Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, and southeast Asia, is Khruangbin. These are 3 people from Texas that play a great deal of instrumental music. You'll hear funk, hip-hop, and soul. Marc Speer is one of my favorite current guitar players, as he's very tasteful and melodic. In "Mr. White" he gets his guitar to sound like an electric piano, and the way he dances around the bassline is so good. It's been one of my favorite songs for the past 1 or 2 years.
