The second we start losing please take a baseball bat to crapstillo's knee please. Its always his fault :)

Maine I think is gonna be shut down for the season. And to be honest it doesnt upset me because hes too valuable long term. Hes got serious talent and while he does walk more then you like he does a good job keeps runs off the board when hes healthy

I just watched the best baseball game in my 42 years on this earth. My Phightins were down 7-0 in the 4th to the Mets, and they come back to win it 8-7 in the bottom of the 13th.

My nerves are shot, but Phirst Place Pheels good!!!!

I can't believe Charlie Manuel had Seanez pitch to Delgado tonight....we were four outs away from a sweep and Old Cholly has a crappy right handed reliever pitch to a left handed Delgado instead of going to JC Romero. Ahwww well. Both teams have 60 losses with under 30 left. At least it looks like the NY Yankees are done.

Should be a good series at Shea next week. :tongue2:

I agree it should be right down to the wire. You also have to understand that the Phils were 1 out away from being swept the previous night(not to mention down 7-0). Going to be nip and tuck the rest of the way. The hottest team down the stretch will be the one who finally claims it.

Thats pretty much our problem all year. 19 blown leads 7th inning or later. Our bullpen and Castillo are squarely to blame if we dont take the NL. Even with wagner in the combination we have back there blew chunks.

    By the way:
    - that was the 4th time in NYM history we blew a lead of 7 or more runs.
    - David Wright is the first player in NYM history to have 4 100 rbi seasons on his resume. That its 4 in a row is also obviously a first. Hes building a nice resume and doesnt turn 26 til December :knucks:

When you say hiked up, you really have no idea do you? Theyre going to double. And for the boxes and the real nice seats its going to be much worse. Plus the stadium is going to be like 12000 seats smaller. Thats why Im trying to get to at least 3-4 games this sept while the games are affordable....:shifty:

And freakin Ayala almost blew it. Tried his hardest to do so anyway.
1ip 4 hits 2 er - left runners on 2nd and 3rd - apparently he felt tightness in his left quad and said nothing til after the game according to SNY.

    41-26 under jerry

Oh, and it pains me to say it, credit to Castillo for getting the hit to start the rally in the top of 9th.

hey, i have never been to shea so i wouldnt know what tickets are going for (box office or scalped). i do know they arent too hard to get though. i do imagine the citi field tickets will be jacked up, but isnt that the norm now a days? im sure this will impact the fans that go to 5-10 games a year. ****ty yes, but isnt the new ballpark experience gonna be a lot better?

god. am i actually trying to make a point saying the higher priced tickets are better? regardless, how much we ***** wont matter - just hope the new park is sweet w/ a winning product on the field.

Everytime I think I have seen Heilman at his worst..he surprises me once again. This guy has single handily caused more losses..more agida..more yelling at the TV than anyone I can remember in a long long time. His body language is so bad...how does he look at his teammates in the eye anymore. Even they have to get to a point that they know its hopeless with him in there. I wish I had the time to really sit down and figure out how many games he has cost the Mets this year..has to be at least 10 no?..10 games!?!.

The sad thing is his teammates and coaches love him and continuously defend him. Ughhh 20 blown leads 8th inning or later. Just win 25% of those games and we'd be 6 up and battling Chicago for homefield. I HATE our bullpen.

Clean em out after the years up except Smith and Stokes. Wagner MAYBE can stay as a setup man.

JC Romero and two cheese steaks for Beltran and Schneider. Deal? I think it will come down to the final week. The Philties have been blowing games even worse. That's baseball though. :shifty:

Losing games on homers to all star caliber players like Soriano and Aramis Ramirez is entirely different then walking the bases loaded intentionally (to induce a double play) and then watching Heilman walk in the winning run...again.

Managers always get criticized for taking their starters out too soon and going to the bullpen, but then if the starter is left in too long they risk wearing them out. I just think Jerry Manuel should leave Santana in for all 9 innings when he pitches. Maine and Pelfrey also seem strong enough to go 8-9. We had Cole Hamels pitching great the other day against the Cubs but Charlie Manuel pulled him and then our bullpen fell apart...but Hamels said he had nothing left after about 105 pitches. I think that is why the set up guys in the 7th and 8th are just as valuable as the closer in the 9th. Lidge should get some MVP votes as he hasn't blown any saves yet...I think he is 33 for 33? Everytime I watch the Mets you guys score in the first inning. It's unreal. But then teams seem to find a way to come back on you. I think next week's Phils/Mets series could decide the NL East.

Well the Mets lead the majors in 1st inning runs. They also rank 3rd or 4th in blown leads 7th inning or later cause of their horrific pen which consumes half this thread.

Regarding Santana, he, Perez and Pelfrey are working a lot deeper in to games under Jerry Manuel as I think hes challenged the entire staff to do so. Pedro is strictly a 5-6 inning guy, maybe 7 with some luck, but lately theyve been quality inings so I can live with that from my #4 starter which is basically what he is at this point. Pelfrey in particular has been great over his last 18 starts sporting a sub 3 era. This starts just before Willie and The Jacket got the ax. If you would have told me he could reach 15+ wins this year at the start of the season, I would have laughed in your face. Hes been great and looks eerily similar to Brandon Webb or Oakland version of Tim Hudson.

Maine is entirely different. he just walks too many batters and works too many deep counts to work past the 6th/115 pitches whichever comes 1st. The good news is that when hes been healthy and in control this year hes basically been unhittable. His k/9 is excellent and if he can develop 1 more pitch and better control he still stands to become a very good to elite pitcher.

The Mets have a tough series vs Milwakee we cant look past...

Starting three lefty's against a team that kills lefty's. This could be a real tough three games.

At least we don't have to see Sabathia, he pitched a nice 1-hitter cg today that is being contested by the team to see if the hit will be turned into an error. Won't happen, but nice still that we don't have to face him...

Agreed, but boy are they burning that guy out? I would not sign him to a big contract next year. The same with K-Rod from the Angles. These teams know they can't sign them, and you wonder if they don't really care about the wear they are putting on them.

I love how all these baseball pundits on espn were panning our farm system and now in the middle of a pennant race Murphy, Evans, Argenis Reyes, etc are all doing things to help this team. Murphy in particular looks like a keeper if we can find a position for him. hes slated to spend the offseason in winter ball playing 2b. He played there until college where he was asked to switch to 3B because there was an upperclassman at 2B. He projects as a 15-20 homer guy who will carry a good BA. It would be nice to have that kind of production from 2B.

Pedro may skip his next start. he had trouble getting his arm loose vs Florida and thats why his velocity was topping out in the mid 80's. I think hes still feeling the aftereffects of the surgery and not having pitched much for the last 2 years. Have to wonder how the FO feels about resigning him. With maine, santana, and Pelfrey locked up, it might be more beneficial for us to go out and sign a Derek Lowe to replace Pedro and guarantee us 210 innings rather then take a chance Pedro returns to form.

Wagner had a good rehab outing yesterday and may return in 6 days vs Washington. Bad as hes been we're 19-8 with him out and 4 of those were bullpen losses. MAYBE he prevents 1-2 of those.
