Being offered a 5th for Beck was just a rumour

    http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/08/no-beck-talks-yet.html

So I suspect the FO shopped Beck around and could not find a buyer

All these beat writer's "rumors" you're taking as fact are no more valid than the Cowboys offer for Beck "rumor".
    Whose right? Well..........

In the end, McCown is the QB the FO felt was the one that was expendable.
Do you really think they'd keep a QB prospect they felt is a disaster just to get a 7th round flier pick for McCown? No way they do that.

All depends if they have their eye on another QB they believe will be cut. The John Beck Deathwatch isnt over until the season starts

I didn't quote beat writiers I quoted their quotes of NFL front office personnel. I believe those quotes more than any. I don't know about you.

I think there is a combination of things why they might still keep Beck. Beck is younger, still has a little upside and they like the fact that he can grow with Henne. On the otherhand I think they were willing to shop Beck for a 4th or 5th and McCown for a 7th. In the end they got a 7th for McCown and no one was willing to give up a 4th or 5th for Beck. It might not still be over for Beck if the FO is willing to lower their asking price.

Exactly...no stone is left unturned. I would not be surprised if they have a QB in mind as Aug 30 comes around.

The fact that Miami was able to get anything for McCown is amazing. Teams had to know they were going to either release him or Beck. Amazing. Great job by Parcells and Ireland.

    Slightly left of center
Do like I did w/ my $9.99 Culpepper Jersey, cut the stitches on the name patch from the inside and tear it off. Then get a custom one from the pro-shop and have a seamstress sew it on for $5-10 bucks.

Where was it reported last week that the Dolphins were asking for a third for Beck?

    The post funk era
I read they were asking for a 4th...................

Bill is doing what he has done ever where he has been.................he is a " leakGod ". All the rumors we have been hearing every where about this or that are from Bill Parcells.

Parcells is a control freak and if the leaks were not coming from him , then people working for the Dolphins would be getting fired left and right,,,,,,,,,yet that isn't happening is it? I wonder why.

The logic wasn't ****ty logic. They had to find a team that would give a pick for either QB. No one would pony up for Beck, someone would for McCown. The logic was perfect. Its just that Beck couldn't fetch us anything.

Now, this trade does end the *****ty logic of "their guy" nonsense. If someone would have ponied up for Beck, he would have been traded.

The only problem is that other teams watch preseason football too. You want John Beck? Brock Berlin is probably cheaper.

There are reports that teams are still feeling out beck in trade scenarios. and McCown only got traded for a 7th. Essentially a 12 pack and some beer nuts.

Where are your reports that nobody would pony up for Beck?

It's late SCFF, 3:40 AM! Oops, it might be 6:40 somewhere eh ...

So teams watch preseason football too ?? Uhh...when did the they watch McClown?? The one meaningless quarter he got...ok, but the 4 meaningless drives that Beck got weren't meaningless and they figured he wasn't worth a pick because of that....pfffft....

Carolina picked up McClown because of two reasons..first they need someone with game experience in case Moore's injury holds him up longer than expected (deep contusions like he suffered do that some times) and second because they have been burned the last few seasons with QB injuries and bringing back retired guys and guys in the middle of the season didn't cut it for them...I see the local media reports here all the time and that last point is a major concern for Marty Hurney here after the last two years...and you can top that all off by the 'urgency' (read: staff on the hot seat) to be successful this year...

That said, they wouldn't have been interested in a 'developmental guy' like Beck and therefore didn't wait until one was cut, because they targeted a specific guy...

We can argue the reasons that Beck was kept over McClown all day...the bottom line is that, to this point, they feel Beck's worth more than what offers they were getting for him and that either guy was expendable given the progress of Henne and the acquistion of Pennington. They obviously felt a 7th was adequate compensation for McCown...not to mention that it actually cost the more against the cap to trade McCown than Beck, but I don't really think that entered their minds..

I think you'll end up getting more teams interested in developmental guys early in the post season rather than late in the pre-season. At the end of the pre-season, teams are looking to patch up what is starting to leak going into the season. I am pretty happy we received compensation for McCown though I'll tell you that much.

ROFL...this is classic. You remind me of Kramer's lawyer in Seinfeld. Just try to baffle with bs if your point makes no sense.

You only have to look to last year at Josh McCown's games to know he has the ABILITY to play in this league. He played very well in some games. John Beck has NEVER played very well in ANY game. Sorry to break this to you...but these are just facts. Thats why the Panthers would take him but not Beck.

Its the bottom line, and its simple.

Sure Beck has been a disappointment thus far, but it was confirmed that Dallas was considering Beck. There wasn't even a rumor that they were looking at McCown. There were also several reports that we were asking a 4th for Beck and at least one report that Dallas offered a 5th which we turned down. So I don't much stock in your contention that McCown had more trade value than Beck.

I thought the spin was that Beck was so horrible that it was a simple given that it would be McCown that was kept. It was a no brainer to you and yours was it not?

Now, the spin is that the Phins would rather take a throw away 7th round pick to give up a QB that has "the ability" to play in this league rather than just cut Beck.

That of course is ignoring the rumors that the Phins already had an offer for Beck.

You're the only one deserving of a good hysterical laugh here.

They kept the guy that you got diarrhea of the mouth over ripping him and stating how obvious it was that he'd be sent packing so now you have to come up with some silly argument to CYA.

    Hysterical.

Hmmm the only ones that are wrong are those who said McCown would stay over Beck!

As we know in the club lounge, there is some evidence the FO like Beck. They don't think he's the second coming, nor is there anything to argue with the fact that they like Henne better. But they see something in Beck to keep him around.
