Here's how I personally see it. There's 3 or 4 total positions that can change a game in a team's favor. QB. RB. Maybe even LB or CB if you land someone like Singletary or Sanders (or for that matter, Xavien Howard). Same goes for edge...it's a huge impact at times, but it's not going to win consistently on any given Sunday and it's not 1st round worthy in my opinion unless the guy is so far above and beyond, you can't not take him.

So if you really believe that you're looking at a once in a generation talent, I have no problem "betting the farm". To me, Murray meets that criteria on film/paper....but I don't know the position well enough to say if what my eyes see is legit. The bigger problem is that if the Cardinals really want him, then they're going to set the price to what they think is an impossible ask, and I don't know if that's a smart move on our part.

They could easily ask for 3 years of 1st/2nd rounders plus one of our best players- how do you say yes to that? If Murray doesn't develop then we've just crippled ourselves for a decade on one move. I think the only way we can get him is if he falls to #2.

Exactly. Draft picks don't always work out, so it's a bad idea to blow 4-5 of them on one guy. With our holes, we're better off with more picks, not less.

I'd be thrilled if we could find a trade partner for 13 and move back to collect even more picks.

Wanting Murray at 13 and trading up to get him are two completely different animals though. If he falls to 13 and we snag him, it's doubtful many people would be upset by that.

However, if we sell the farm to go get him that would be understandably upsetting for many reasons.

I can see why it would upset people, but if Murray turns out to be a superstar then I think all would be forgiven. That's the risk you run.

Even though the NFL has turned the QB position into flag football, I still don’t want a 5’10” QB. Hard pass on trading our future for that.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. Just because some people don't want to basically give up 2 drafts to go and get one player doesn't mean people want to play safe or treadmill. It just means they don't want to build the team that way.

Relax! My opinion is the Qbs from next years draft are better. Why give up all these picks for a lesser player when we can have a little patience and possibly have the number #1 pick in the draft next year and give up nothing.Murrary would not be the number #1 pick if he was coming out next year.

And what happens if he's simply mediocre? Or bad?

With a talent void in other areas combined with a new draft pick void created by trading for Murray, how would you build the team around him? How would you address the offensive and defensive sides of the football?

You would basically be forced to take on multiple huge FA contracts in order to field a competitive football team. So, if Murray doesn't work out, not only would you have wasted the picks on him, you would have created a failing football team with too many bloated contracts. Essentially, you'd be Mike Tannenbaum, and people here don't want that anymore.

Me personally? No. I would not. If Grier really believes he's the next Marino though, I would understand if he did it. He'd better be right though.

Murray has lots of upside but I'm not 100% convinced.

If I we're GM then I'd wait to see if he drops and get him if it didn't cost the world. I'd spend the 13th pick on him, but I wouldn't move up.

I'd also be okay with Grier ignoring him at 13 and trading down to get picks and look for the QB over the next year or two.

Exactly. This is the only sensible way to look at the situation.

I could be wrong but everything we’ve seen so far points toward Grier and Flores favoring sensibility and patience as opposed to big splashes.

Getting him at 13 is completely unrealistic at this point. If you want Murray, you are going to have to move up.

It's a risk, it could set us back, it could torpedo us for the next 3-4 years if he is a bust. Or, it could shoot us ahead and take a 3 year rebuild and make it 1.

It simply depends on if Grier and Flores think HE is the guy worth the risk. If they do, they will be willing to make a big move and give up a lot. If not, they won't.

As for how we will build around him while giving up picks, I think you just need to look around the league and see what teams are doing. It's more than possible, and completely realistic. The biggest factors in our success over the next 4 years will be landing a capable elite QB, and whether or not Flores is a legit coach. The rest of the team will fall into place if we hit on those 2 things.

It is definitely a risk but a risk I hope they take. The cost to move to the 1st overall pick would be something like the below.

    2019 1st and 2nd round picks
2020 1st, 2nd, 3rd and the possibility of a later round pick in 2020 or 2021. We will have 10 or 11 picks in the 2020 draft if things stay like they are for the compensatory picks.
2021 Possibly of a later round pick in the 2021 draft as stated above.

I wouldn't want to give everything in 1 year's draft, split it up into the next 2 to 3 years. And yes, I would do it.

Below is my Fanspeak draft where I gave up those picks and got Murray. This is not a bad draft for pulling off the trade to get to 1. Now who knows how the players fall in the draft as we all know Fanspeak is just for fun. AND this is all going to depend on how AZ feels about Kyler.

1: R1P1 QB KYLER MURRAY OKLAHOMA
    78: R3P14 C ERIK MCCOY TEXAS A&M
124: R4P22 WR MILES BOYKIN NOTRE DAME
    151: R5P13 G BEN POWERS OKLAHOMA
156: R5P18 DL GREG GAINES WASHINGTON
224: R7P10 OT CHUMA EDOGA USC
    234: R7P20 S MARQUISE BLAIR UTAH

I'm surprised at the numbers in the poll really. Especially for a team and fanbase desperate for a quality QB. I voted yes. However, that being said I'm saying that based on his ability. There's some concerns here though, especially the direction of his future. Is he all in on football? That's the question none of us really know the answer to. So, if I was the team, and I felt he was all in on football after our interviews etc, etc. then absolutely, I do whatever I can to get him.

That being said, picking where we are, and with some teams ahead of us that need QB's also, I don't believe we're going to have that opportunity to even worry about it.

Too big of a gamble. What if he turns out to be a bust? You set us back another 2 years or more.

I think that the numbers in the poll simply show that many people aren't sold on him as a good QB. Not the idea as a whole.

If this were a different QB that we were talking about, the next Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck, then I think that the numbers would be reversed.

    A few things-

#1- He didn't throw much at the combine.
#2- On written testing, he didn't show that he could quickly absorb an NFL playbook.
#3- In interviews, he didn't necessarily show traits as a leader. Doesn't mean he's not...but he didn't show it.
#4- Murray already chose baseball, a team drafted him, then he changed his mind. That's TERRIFYING for a potential #1 pick.
#5- He's 5 foot 10...perceived to be too short as an NFL QB.

There are weeks before the draft and every last detail of these blue chip players is studied under a microscope. When you add the five points above together (regardless if they're legit concerns), I don't see Murray going #1. Heck, I can't see him going in the top 10. You can't bet your entire franchise on a guy you're not even sure will commit to your program and teams are going to be too scared to bet the farm on that.

He could literally walk at any time and make more in baseball- how can you risk the #1-10 pick for that in a stacked defensive draft?

I think Arizona is bluffing to get a massive payday from someone less cautious...and I hope it's not us. Now if Murray drops to #13, then by all means....grab the kid. But jumping to #1 is a massive gamble that might not pay off at all. I would personally argue that Murray is not a 1st round pick because of baseball alone; the other factors just push it over the top for me.

Honestly to move to #1, especially with a new coach, you are basically betting your tenure on one guy.

Granted Grier is pulling the trigger not Flores but I feel the coach has to have input at the very least on his QB above all other spots.
