I thought so. The only DCU movies I've liked are Wonder woman and Aquaman. The others are absolutely not my taste.

Watched the documentary Three Identical Strangers. I won't reveal too much because it's kind of a mystery but it's about three triplets who were adopted by three different families The families who adopted them didn't know they were triplets. 7/10.

Man of Steel is one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
My favorite part of BvS was the fact that it wasn't as painful as Man of Steel.

Finally sat down and watched Deadpool 2, and it made me happy. Of course less shock and surprise compared to the first one because I was expecting it, but at the same time, they did right by it by taking the bigger budget and keeping the same vibe and soul from the first one.

I thought BvS extended cut was thoroughly enjoyable actually. Fortunately that version was the first one I saw, and now I’m totally glad it happened that way.

I still haven't seen it. I think it would like it more as I heard it makes it less of a jumbled mess of random things happening on the screen for little to no reason.

That version seemed pretty cohesive to me..... and the flow IMO was quite fine and seamless, especially given the complexity involved.

Pretty disappointing then that the extended cut wasn’t the theatrical release.... in that they sold out quality for the hopes of additional profits from the extended cut, when it was clear as day which one was the better version. Should’ve just been the extended cut and that’s it.

Agreed. If the movie is good people will see it over and over again. Heck, the movie just needs to be entertaining for that to happen. The extra minutes and eliminating the bullet subplot, and I probably would have at least enjoyed the movie.

Joaquin Phoenix an extremely underrated actor I believe gives Heath Ledger a run for his money.

Phoenix will take it to a whole nother level by inspiring viewer empathy. Heath did dramatic & methodical crazy so incredibly well but Joaquin is gonna flip this thing on its head I suspect. He’ll make the Joker seem like he genuinely belongs in the loony bin, whereas Heath’s Joker is one-dimensional and just feels like a highly eccentric born-psychopath in full control of his faculties, like it was simply a career decision for him to become a criminal.

At the 22 sec mark - "The worst part about having a mental illness is people expect you to behave as if you DONT"

Just hope they don't Norman Bates this with the Mother stuff. I'd rather he be more Alex DeLarge~esque

Joaquin is closer to the original Conrad Veidt inspiration tho...

Definitely not underrated! Dude has been killing it for years, and directors love him. He takes great risks in his roles. One of my favorite actors.

I didn't thjink it was rah-rah, but I thought it was a good healthy undertone. It seemed like a slow build towards a stronger personality as movie went on.

    I watched Shazam! last night.

IMO, that is the best movie based on a DC superhero since the Dark Knight by far. I will say I still haven't seen Aquaman. It felt like a big budget 80s movie. Right down to the "wow, they went there" moments, to the others that will give many children nightmares.

The humor is good, the action is fun. The people seem like people instead of emotionless drones like in the Snyder directed films.

It did have one of the problems of the 80s movie, which is the bully issue. Those bullies are just cartoonishly evil, and would have been put in jail for what they did, or at least gotten suspended.
They hit a cripple with a car! Then kick the s*** out of him for it.

Also, finally a superhero movie where the person gets their powers and it doesn't make them depressed.

I had a blast. I highly recommend watching it.

is that the Spanish movie Timecrimes? If so that is a great time travel flick. I generally dislike time travel movies but that one was fantastic. The Spanish make some interesting sci fi/ horror movies. The Final Days IIRC is a good one. Also if you like foreign movies the Venezuelan House At The End Of Time is a great movie

I really enjoyed Shazam. I'd put it behind Wonder Woman and slightly ahead of Aquaman on my list of recent DC movies. (Dark Knight is an all-time favorite for me. I have it on a tier of it's own). But regardless of the rankings, I enjoyed all three of those recent DC movies. I couldn't say that about any of the others since the Nolan Batman trilogy finished.

I thought the Shazam first third was a bit lame, but the second and third acts were great. Like Aquaman, the cheesiness level was high, but they were both fun.

I can't say that since The Dark Knight. The more I think about the Dark Knight Rises, the more I do not like it. It is well shot, however, IMO it is not that good of a movie. The story is really dumb, the Villains are pretty lame, Batman is a whiny crybaby, Alfred is annoying. I have zero interest in revisiting that movie. I would rather watch Shazam! over The Dark Knight Rises.

I only put it over Wonder Woman because I think the movie on a whole is a better movie. While the first third was a bit lame, I don't really agree, but I can see where you are coming from, the ending of Wonder Woman was lame to me. It went from "You can't just punch someone to stop a war." to punching someone to stop a war. And keeping that ridiculous British face visible during that big fight made it more comical than anything. Wonder Woman until she killed that one guy was great, after that really bad.

I thought Shazam! was more of a consistent movie, and had characters I really enjoyed. Other than the 80s bullies of course. And the lack of adults at the school. A kid was hit by a car! No adults? Seriously?

Agreed on Rises. Not a good movie. In fact, it was a bit of a mess, truth be told. When most super hero movies want to put too many villains in the movie as the go farther in sequels, Nolan chose to put too many concepts into the movie.

Wonder Woman was great until the last act.

Waiting on Aquaman. But I';m worried.

Loved Shazam. Tons of fun, could be this generation's Goonies.

Don't go into Aquaman expecting a serious movie, or oscar calibre work. But if you want a big, loud, fun experience and can suspend your disbelief, then I think you'll have a good time. Its a live action cartoon, and Momoa is charasmatic and good in that role. Traditional, 80s/90s style action hero.

I wasn't. I was just hoping it wouldn't be TOO hokey.

I do like Momoa, and I really enjoy the modern take on Aquaman, that people not into comic books or the old WB JLU animated show, have no idea about.

I think the Dark Knight is my only controversial comic film opinion along with Iron Man 1 in that I don't enjoy them. Heath Ledger doesn't feel like The Joker throughout the film, decent villain still, just not the Joker.

After my thirty something trips to the cinema between January and March, I haven't been since seeing Captain Marvel which I have in my bottom 5 Marvel films. Seeing that and Vice (Another let down) back to back had made me weary of going back anytime soon, but the positive reviews of Shazam means I'll probably end up seeing that before Endgame at the end of the month. I had been hopeful that Hellboy would be good, but early reviews would suggest otherwise.

What about Vice made it a let down to you? I thought Christian Bale alone was worth the price of admission. It wasn’t quite even with Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody, or a Star is Born but it felt roughly on par with stuff like BlacKkKlansman & The Mule. I definitely wouldn’t have screamed for my money back or felt like it was a waste of 2 hours.

Ah now I didn't think Vice was an outright bad film. I thought it was a solid film, but I went in having just rewatched The Big Short and was hoping for something of the same calibre. Will agree with you that Christian Bale was fantastic. It just didn't manage to meet my expectations for what I was hoping for with the story (A Mistake when going to the cinema I know).

One film on your list of films I will disagree with is A Star Is Born. Again I know I'm in the minority but I thought that film was dreadful. Sam Elliott in the supporting role was fantastic but we didn't get nearly enough of him. I think the issue is that the film relies on you buying into the chemistry of Cooper and Gaga and I just couldn't believe that they had this sort of relationship, by the time they reached the scene at the awards show I was thinking about leaving the cinema. Now if the film had focused more on Cooper and Elliott's relationship then I could have bought in some more.

As it is I will stick with one of the earlier versions if I want to watch the film.
