I'm kind of getting obsessed with platformers lately. Mostly of the 2D variety but 3D are great as well. I'm wondering what some of your favorite platformers are and why? Old or new doesnt matter. I'm currently playing the Mega Man Legacy Collection, before that was Shovel Knight and before that Rogue Legacy. The latter two really reignited my love of the genre. Celeste is a game I want to try but I generally like games with enemies of some variety.
I don't do a lot of platforming these days, but I liked the Little Big Planet games. They look like they're for kids, but they're extremely challenging.
You know I've actually been hearing a lot of people say that same thing. I might end up having to try it out. Also same here I hadn't played them in a while until a month or so ago when I wanted to try something with more challenge.
The first two LBP games are excellent. Both were originally on the PS3 and made my Media Molocule. In their day, they were top of the line and ground breaking for what they did. The third, on the PS4, was outsourced, and while ambitious and beautiful, was not as fun and ended up being a bit confusing and clunky. On one hand, its great that the games are two player co-op. My wife and I have enjoyed playing them together, and now my kids do too. But on the other hand, that can make completing them, getting all of the items, and beating the bosses much more difficult. I almost always had to go back by myself to get things finished.
For platformers I'd have to go mostly old-school. Another World Flashback (Another World 2) Prince of Persia (original) Earthworm Jim Oh, would the Prince of Persia Sands of Time trilogy fit? Those three were great if you count them as platformers. And I enjoyed Prince of Persia 3D too, but it did have some camera angle issues. Level design was awesome though.
Mega Man X games were always my favorite. Later on when you could play as X and Zero were even better.
Most of my platforming was the Crash Bandicoot games on the first Playstation. For those that get a chance, you really need to try Astro Bot: Rescue Mission in VR. If you were thinking there wasn't much more they could do with a platformer, this will be a new experience for you.
