I thought their other guard was better.....although if this draft proves anything, i dont know anything
So, we get a guard out of Wisconsin instead. Michael Dieter. Could be a starter. Welp, definitely needed help on the Oline. Build from the trenches.
We need a stud MLB that other teams bulletin board for, a standout that will command attention at center field. When will we get our demon at the helm?
Don't like this pick. Yodny Cajuste was on the board. I watched tape on Dieter and wasn't all that impressed. I liked Ben Powers oklahoma, Ryan Bates Penn State better. We could have even drafted Bobby Evans LT from Oklahoma who could play guard or LT and would have been a better pick than Dieter. Terrible job on day two. This pick plus giving up two picks for Rosen. Terrible
In one of the highlights for a DT (Khalen Saunders) that just got picked, they just showed him beating Dieter in a drill on a spin move...LOL!
Yeah I watched tape on Dieter and he gets beat on the regular. Don't know what our scouts or Grier were thinking there were several linemen available who I rated better that Dieter.
▪ ESPN’s Todd McShay, speaking about Rosen before last year’s draft, said he had reliable knowledge that “Rosen can be difficult at times, question authority at times. Does he love the game? Does he need the game? You don’t want to draft Jay Cutler. All the scouts in the building, there’s concern about who he is as a teammate. I get a lot of Jay Cutler type reports [on him]. But then you put on the tape, especially USC- UCLA game and very clearly Josh Rosen is more polished [than Sam Darnold]. “ https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article229383009.html
Fantastic day. Murray is a injury waiting to happy pygmy. Haskins will weigh easily 275 within 3 years due to fatty genetics and the work ethic of a sloth. Rosen is a high IQ guy, a bit of an arrogant prick, with arm talent, easily worth the risk. Drafted two big, mean, high energy fat guys. Love these moves. And next years draft will be great fun.
F'ing love this pick!!! Big Wisconsin OLineman? ...so cool. Big boy can maul some people and can play all over the line.
Yup, we are never going to beat the Patriots at this rate. They always draft better than us. They just picked Yodny Cajuste in round 3. That's a steal. That should have been our pick instead of Dieter. Cajuste offers a much higher cieling and greater value at a premium position. We still have major whole at RT Cajuste could have been plug and play there. Then again we have sucked at drafting offensive linemen for years and Grier was a part of that. So not surprising.
Not saying that Dieter doesn't need work, but Cajuste is probably more of a project. Plus, Dieter can play 3 positions, so his versatility is probably what got him the nod.
Well...let's just say I didn't lose any sleep last night from excitement. That said, it is what it is and even though I am not thrilled, I am moving on. I am sure Flores and Caldwell feel they can work with the guy and maybe smooth out the rough edges of his personality so, I am encouraged there. Plus, he's a Dolphin now, so I am rooting for him and hope he turns it around and gets on track.
Honestly, reading through his social media he seems like a mostly decent guy. The worst I've heard is hes cocky...well a lot of younger guys are though before they get put in place some. Reports are hes been really mature through the whole process so I don't think whatever problems hes had are unfixable. Just my 2 cents.
Cajuste is more of a finished product than Dieter as a pass protector and he is much more physically gifted. Dieter's deficiencies in pass protection are mostly physical so I don't see him getting better than Cajuste in that department. Dieter is a good run blocker moving forward, but when he has to step back in pass pro he is really lacking. Got regularly beat whenever he faced elite level Dlineman and he will get a steady diet of those in the NFL. Cajuste could also play left guard, but he would be a shoe in at RT. Has a much higher cieling than Dieter. Should have been the pick. We seriously need to revaluate our oline scouting, especially for interior linemen. We have bombed at picking guards for years and Grier was a big part of those bad picks.
Not going to argue that our OL scouting hasn't sucked. However, until we know how these guys actually do, I am going to withhold judgement on Grier.
I'd argue that physical limitations are the easiest to overcome as long as they arent entirely damning. Arms like a t-rex for example...cant do anything about that. Mobility and strength though can be added in an NFL program to a degree.
Dieter has a very short wingspan, and he doesn't recover well after he is initially beat due to stiff hipps. Can't teach a guy to have better wingspan or good hips. You get a guy with all the physical tools and you can teach him technique to use them effectively. Cajuste is a much better prospect than Dieter. It's not even close in my opinion. He has all the physical tools necessary and pretty good technique and toughness to boot. Dolphins struck out on that pick. And we made another bad pic now in round 5 with van ginkell. Van should have been a 6th or 7th rounder, much better players were available on the board. I loved the first pick with Wilkins, but that was an easy one as Grier admitted himself. The rest of the draft has been a disappointment thus far. Dolphins continue to such at drafting.
