Well Cnc, I had just read the Omar Blog thread, and it was late, I was tired.....I just got depressed bro. I'm sorry bro....I was just down I feel better now about it. It was just a spur of the moment thought.
I don't think you can judge a draft class just by the # of starters it produces. Lets say Hagan comes around, has a great summer, and Ginn is relegated to #3 WR, technically not a starter. But he returns kicks and punts and puts us in way better field position that we are used to. Let's say that Beck isn't the starter, but is a great backup QB and helps the starter prepare and offers in game tips on reads and such. Lets say that Solia doesn't start, but gives Ferguson some quality down time so he's fresh in the fourth quarter and at the end of the season. If Satele continues to improve and is considered for the Pro Bowl every year, I think that's a decent draft. We will have definitely seen worse in Miami. And was LoBook from that draft, or was he the draft before? I can't remember, but if he was, that has to be considered as well. We used him to pick up a guy who I think will at least give us quality depth on the oline, if not take over for Smiley at some point.
Only time will tell who will survive with this team, but hopefuelly Ginn, Satele and Beck all will perfrom at high levels for here for awhile.
nope, he wasn't . He was a cameron guy CAREER TRANSACTIONS Signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted college free agent on May 4, 2007. http://miamidolphins.com/newsite/team/roster/playerBio.asp?docid=27214
Amen. He preceded Ryan as the overhyped media darling. He never won a game that was important and we wouldn't even be having this discussion if not for the guy who's now a relief pitcher in Wrigley Field (easier than typing his name LOL). The draft market, in its infinite wisdom is self-adjusting and if not for a mercy draft of the hometown boy, who knows how far he'd have fallen.
Ginn and Satele will start. And Beck is still in an open competition. Those are the first 3 picks from last year's draft. One 1st and two 2nd's. This regime traded away the 3rd round pick (Booker) because he was easily third on the depth chart behind Brown and Williams. Do teams really expect to find starters after the 3rd round? No. Especially not in only their second seasons.
Hmmmmmm, if Mauia & Beck leave (very possible) this thread may not be as silly as once thought. Its not out the realm of possibility that Ginn doesn't survive after this year. They could move him.
Doesn't make me happy but sobers me up to the fact that the 2006 draft was more like the ones 2000-2004 than not. It was another wasted year, and one more year we are behind on our development.
becks not going anywhere this year and Ginn isn't going to be traded if only for the cap hit we would take. not to mention we have no idea how ginn will do this year. Very very premature imo.
No question we've had less than stellar drafts in the past several years. But I think Roth has carved out his niche. Ginn is showing his value. Soliai has been making progress. And don't forget Fields. While it's possible that someone could be cut in lieu of someone else's cast off, these guys seem to be safe for the moment.
Roth was not a Cam/Ram draft pick, but a Great Satan draft pick in 2005 I believe. I still wouldn't buy a house if I was Soliai or Fields.
I think it's a bit premature to think that - we still have 50% of the 2007 draft on our active roster today, and more importantly, we've got 4 of 5 of our first day picks still on the roster, the exception being Lorenzo Booker. In fact, we have had that same success rate with the last 3 drafts - 06, 07, and 08. Of these, if there is a draft to be worried about, I'd be concerned with 2006, as that class only has 3 picks left on the roster - Jason Allen, Derek Hagan, and Rod Wright. What's really killed us are the abysmal 03 and 04 drafts - only Yeremiah Bell and Vernon Carey are left on the team.
Wright was technically not part of the 2006 draft. He was selected in the supplemental draft later that offseason.
Rod Wright was one of our three 7th round picks in the 2006 draft. SI.com - 2006 NFL Draft - Miami Dolphins Draft Picks
Keep patting yourself on the back and ignoring the glaring errors in your analysis. Not saying it was a great draft but your dislike of Ginn in particular is extreme. If you happened to watch the preseason, he looked really good with Pennington and had a great PR TD. 1 9 (9) Ted Ginn Jr. WR Ohio State He's a lock to start and will be our #1 reciever this year. Will likely add a few return TD's as well. Maybe not value at #9 but a good player. 2 8 (40) John Beck QB Brigham Young Still hanging onto the #3 but probably doesn't have a future here. Cam made him a high pick then threw him to the wolves w/o practice reps. His head just isn't right currently. 2 28 (60) Samson Satele C Hawaii Started and played well as a rookie. Lock to start this year. 3 7 (71) Lorenzo Booker RB Florida State I think we picked him too high, but we got a 4th for him which turned into Fasano and Ayodele, both starters. Not bad in the grand scheme of things. 4 9 (108) Paul Soliai DT Utah Current back-up DT. Played horrible as a rookie, but seems to have progressed with real coaching. Still on the team. Future TBD. 6 7 (181) Reagan Mauia RB University of Hawaii Started as a rookie. Average blocker, hands of stone, does not play special teams. Not upset to see him cut. 6 25 (199) Drew Mormino OL Central Michigan University Good prospect but didn't pan out. Gone. 7 9 (219) Kelvin Smith ILB Syracuse Gone. 7 15 (225) Brandon Fields P Michigan State University Looks to be an up and coming punter. Good pick. 7 28 (238) Abraham Wright Showed flases. Gone. That's 5 guys still on the team. 3 of which (Ginn, Satele and Fields) figure to be around a long time and 1 of which (Soliai) has a chance to be around too. And then there's Booker who basically netted us 2 starters and will probably get some opportunities in Philly. Not a great draft, but not a trainwreck either. We'll have an even better read this time next year.
