    Here’s a fun one!
S6E9: Dany’s conversation w/ Tyrion about the cities attacking Meereen. Tyrion reminds her about her Mad Dad.

    It’s the first scene.

    >Daenerys: “I will crucify the masters. I will set their fleets on fire, kill every last one of their soldiers, and return their city to the dirt.”

So, would anyone care to explain this to me— after the masters are crucified, the fleets are destroyed, and the soldiers are gone, what’s left? I think anyone can deduce that the general population would be the only thing remaining, yet Mad Dany would have the city reduced to ash anyways, which obviously includes its innocent remaining inhabitants. Nope she’s not mad.

This is the 2nd time she made a comment about turning a city to ash, as she said it in S4E6 to Hizdhar when observing the fighting pit.

I saw her heel turn coming.

I did not see her going from hero to hitler in two episodes.

Dany also thoroughly ENJOYS saving women and children. Her narcissism is also about being seen as a savior.

All of Dany's cruelty has been a means to an end. She always was able to see herself as the hero. Two episodes ago, she sacrificed everything to save Westeros. Put her plans on hold for the greater good. She always saw herself as part of the greater good.

Even her crazy father didn't want to resort to slaughtering women and children until he was backed into a corner.

Ted Bundy had WAY more foreshadowing. People have just created this weird idea about Ted Bundy that he seemed like a nice guy, when he was a creepy guy who trapped women by pretending to be hurt and trapping them in a van. It is just really hard to catch a serial killer if there is no real good pattern and/or they don't know the guy. Basically, especially before DNA testing, you pretty much had a to be a complete narcissistic dummy to get caught. Which most serial killers are.

Sorry man, I just can't go there. She had compassion for the little people, and all of the people she stopped the Dothraki from raping. Those weren't slaves.

So then at the onset of her conquest, what was she “saving Westeros” from? She barely knew anything about the place. She didn’t want to save it; she wanted to rule it, believing it was hers, like a possession. Yes, she can feel empathy to the slaves bc she once was one herself, and the same goes for rape victims, but that’s just about where the line ends.

Dany crucified an innocent Nobleman in Meereen. When it was brought to her attention by the man’s son that his father actually protested the enslavement & murder of children, Dany’s response was “Meh, all the Noblemen got what they deserved”. She’s ruthless.... and takes no remorse in extinguishing life.

I don’t know that I’d go so far as saying Dany sacrificed everything to save Westeros. In her mind Westeros already belonged to her, and The Army of the Dead posed a significant direct threat to her end-goal. She can’t rule Westeros if the Night King has turned everyone into white walkers now can she.

but why would he feel compelled to resort to it? It wasn’t out of altruism. He wasn’t trying to prevent them from something even more tragic.

Gotta disagree my friend. Before Bundy’s 1st kill, at the most- he harmed or killed animals. Before Dany BBQ’d the capital, she had already murdered hundreds, some of whom innocent, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Her first murder was at what, roughly 17, when she tossed the witch into a fire? About 19 or 20 when she locked her handmaiden Doreah inside a vault to suffer an emotionally agonizing death? Maybe 22 when she turned Randyll & Dickon to ash?

Dany: “I spent my life in foreign lands.
So many men have tried to kill me, I don't remember all their names. I have been sold like a broodmare. I've been chained and betrayed, raped and defiled. Do you know what kept me standing through all those years in exile? Faith. Not in any gods. Not in myths and legends. In myself. In Daenerys Targaryen. The world hadn't seen a dragon in centuries until my children were born. The Dothraki hadn't crossed the sea. Any sea. They did for me. I was born to rule the Seven Kingdoms, and I will!”

You think Dany’s going somewhere with that big build up, only to finish with “I was born to rule the 7 Kingdoms and I will”, special emphasis on the word RULE.... and also special emphasis on the omitted words, such as “I was born to protect/save the people and I will”. The latter would seem like the most logical way to conclude her rant.... if she weren’t such a raging narcissist hellbent on attaining power at any and all cost. But no, despite all she’s endured, her greatest priority has always been to rule a place that never belonged to her family to begin with.

Dany obviously knows that the people of Westeros are aware that her daddy was the Mad King...... which means that Dany also knows that her return visit to rule Westeros would likely not be well received by the people, especially not with f***ing dragons as companions, nor a massive fleet of Unsullied for that matter. “Hey look- the Mad King’s daughter, 3 massive dragons, and ships full of scary soldiers are approaching!!” “Quick, round up a joyous feast and let’s get this affectionate welcome-party started!!”

Dany is a lot of things, but idiot isn’t one of ‘em. She had to have already had it prepared in her mind that she might need to lay waste to all of Westeros if need be, before even embarking on stage 1 of her journey. You don’t set out to conquer the Seven Kingdoms w/o running all the scenarios through your head first, one of which involves turning King’s Landing and its entire population to ash. She knew that possibility existed, and she was okay about proceeding with her conquest anyways. In Season 1 she was already a mass murderer of epic proportion; it just hadn’t come to fruition outside of her mind yet.

Got something interesting. I’m on S4E7 and something peculiar caught my eye, something that pertains to the earlier Forbes article on The Gods, the balance of nature, the cycle of Life & Death and how the Night King was robbing souls from the God of Death.

Read through the fun Forbes’ article and then jump to 2:08 of the video.

Laying out evidence and examples of her behavior over years is not hoop jumping....it’s a valid argument.

No tyrant thinks they are a tyrant.

All this really comes down is that some people just simply don’t like Dany being the mad queen and instead of their dislike being enough they then have to fabricate numerous things to justify their dislike of it.

Plus, if you wanted to root for a woman, who else was there, Cersei?

A lot of people got so sucked into her [for good reason] that they were simply too blind to see the signs nor notice all the hints & foreshadowings. I perused a GoT forum yesterday for the heck of it. Came across an outstanding & highly detailed post about Dany becoming the Mad King. It highlighted every hint and every bit of foreshadowing, just tons of it. I’m thinking to myself- this guy went back and really pieced it all together impressively. He talks about Dany, rather than the Knight King, being the biggest threat to Westeros and that her dragons are a bigger threat than the Army of the Dead..... that the Night King was only a red herring. Then he mentions Dany & Cersei destroying King’s Landing in their fight for the throne, and the foreshadowing of Dany burning KL down.

Then I look at the date of his post. July, 2018. Dude foresaw it before Season 8. Many of us recognized that Dany had already purchased a 1-way ticket to Madville, but obviously there were enough clues since S1 for some people to accurately even map out S8 in advance. The evidence has been there all along.

    Bold theory #2:
Dany & Drogon are manifestations of the God of Death and were sent to Westeros to help liberate his lost souls [the Army of the Dead], plus spitefully add to the body count bc he’s pissed that everyone keeps telling him, “Not today”.

So no comments about post #528, the theory that this could be about The Gods [Many-Faced & God of Light] working to restore the balance of nature and the proper cycle of life & death after the Night King and now Dany disharmonized it?

Watch that short scene with this theory in mind. The other video was broken so here it is again, timestamped:

So a man who is about to meet the God of Death is speaking [possibly symbolically] to the future slayer of the Night King about “fair exchange & balance” and how that balance has been broken? Hmph. :headscratch:

What’s interesting is the Forbes’ writer hadn’t even noticed that scene yet when forming his theory (I pointed it out to him after the fact). I might add that the writers have a strong penchant for providing hints and rarely insert scenes for no purpose whatsoever, and the man’s quote does check the box for an oddly specific set of words that can easily carry an alternate, symbolic meaning.

“That man's life was not yours to take. A girl stole from the Many-Faced God [God of Death]. Now a debt is owed”. —JAQEN TO ARYA.
    • Is this why there are so many Starks left? Sansa, Bran, and Jon never took a life that wasn’t meant to be taken, and Arya paid back the debt she herself owed. Meanwhile, most everyone else involved in taking a life that wasn’t theirs to take and didn’t pay back, is now dead, sans Dany.
Interesting that Arya was sword-trained by Syrio Forel, believer in The Many Faced God [GoD].... then was trained by a Faceless Man [also of the Many Faced God].... and then had the same thing spoken to her by Mellisandre that Syrio said earlier, “What do we say to the God of Death? -Not Today”.

Was Arya groomed by the Many Faced God [GoD] to first liberate all the lost souls of the Army of the Dead stolen by the Night King and then to possibly exterminate Dany bc of the massive debt she’s racked up to the GoD?

“So all these other Gods that the people of Westeros are worshipping, the Drowned God of the Iron Islands, the Seven, the Old Gods [possibly attached to the 3ER], they’re demons. Therefore, in Mellisandre’s worldview they have to be destroyed.” -George RR

GRRM has also mentioned that he wanted to maintain the integrity of the period, so he made sure to insert religion as a major plot point.

Something I just now pieced together:

I saw an interview [not sure if it’s the one FinD posted] where George RR mocks Christianity.

That in mind, I believe he chose the 7-Faced God [New Gods] to symbolize Christianity, and that’s why he decided King’s Landing would burn to the ground, ironically by the girl who’d been oppressed, enslaved, raped, beaten, and forced into marriage.

So everyone thinks the great Azor Ahai is either Jon or Dany bc of the prophecy that goes:
When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.

The original Azor Ahai was a legendary warrior who used his sword, Lightbringer, to defeat the darkness of the Great Other. This is where it gets fun. Followers of R’hllor [like Mellisandre] believe that there are only two gods, R'hllor and the Great Other, who wage an eternal war over the fate of the world [Fire vs Ice, like Melisandre referenced]. So basically the Great Other is represented by the White Walkers [and possibly Dany too]. Hey what if Fire vs Ice could also be Ice vs Fire, as in the snowy North vs Dany’s fire?

“Man once again faces the war for the dawn, which has been waged since time began. On one side is the Lord of Light, the Heart of Fire, the God of Flame and Shadow. Against him stands the Great Other, whose name may not be spoken. The Lord of Darkness, the Soul of Ice, the God of Night and Terror.” -Thoros of Myr

Obviously the White Walkers are whom the original Azor Ahai defeated.

According to ancient prophecies that were written down in Asshai over 5,000 years ago, Azor Ahai is to be reborn and destined to defeat the darkness once again. Following a long summer, an evil, cold darkness will descend upon the world. Wielding Lightbringer once again, Azor Ahai will stand against it, and if he fails, the world fails with him.

Rather than Daenerys or Jon, the Azor Ahai is actually Arya. She’s already defeated the new “Great Other”, and she used her special dagger to do it with. Now, I don’t think the actual Lightbringer still exists, so it’s more likely to also be a reincarnation. We know it’s special bc it killed the Knight King, and earlier in the series we hear Doreah say, “I’ve seen a man from Asshai w/ a dagger of real dragon glass. I’ve seen a man who can change his face like a man changes his pants”.

Mellisandre is from Asshai. The prophesy of Azor Ahai is from Asshai. Amidst a session of foreshadowing from Doreah, we’re specifically told of a dagger from Asshai. This must be a special dagger. I mean, Doreah has been all over the world and has even seen a Many Faced Man. To mention a dagger in the same breath, that’s significant. I’m deducing that Arya’s mysterious & special dagger of unknown origin was the one seen by Doreah. It’s the same dagger displayed in Sam’s book at the Citadel when he reads about The Long Night, the first battle against the White Walkers 8,000 years ago where they were defeated and driven north.

The Long Night battle [War for the Dawn] basically took place where The Wall is now. After the war, House Stark was established as Ruler of the North. Hmph, must’ve been someone special in the Stark family during that war to earn such a reward.

Now, according to ancient R’llhor legend from Asshai, the original Azor Ahai defeated the first White Walkers. Since Westeros & Asshai don’t share records, scripts, or anything for that matter, and bc there’s no actual written history dating back to that time, I’m assuming the White Walkers defeated by Azor Ahai are the same ones defeated in Westeros during the War For The Dawn, which is why Mellisandre says she feels stronger at the The Wall than back in Asshai. What we have is two differently-worded accounts of the same event. This leads us to believe that the original Azor Ahai is from Westeros, from The North, and might very well have been a member of House Stark. I mean- Mellisandre was in Westeros for 2 reasons- to put fire & ice together and to identify the Azor Ahai reincarnate. But again, no written records so no actual identity of the original Azor.

We do, however, have vague Westerosian legends of a single First Man — whom Old Nan refers to in her stories as "the last hero" — unifying both the First Men and the Children of the Forest and leading them to victory. Now, we’re not told the identify of this “single First Man”, but we do know that Brandon Stark [Bran the Builder] is a legendary member of the First Men, was the founder of House Stark, raised The Wall, established the stronghold of Winterfell, and was the first King in the North. Hmph. He makes tremendous sense as the original Azor Ahai. He, like Arya, was also very young at the time.

This brings us back to Arya.
    • Her ancestry appears possibly connected to the original Azor Ahai.
    • She already defeated the “darkness that gathers” [the White Walkers, The Great Other].
    • She possibly possesses the modern day Lightbringer. Interestingly, the original Azor Ahai failed multiple times in creating the Lightbringer, with each attempt resulting in a broken blade. What does a sword with a broken blade become? -a dagger.
    • The prophesy says the Azor Ahai will be born again amidst smoke & salt. Hmph. Arya was essentially just reborn in the seaside city of King’s Landing while it was burnt to the ground.
    • Ancient translations get twisted all the time, so “wake the dragons out of stone” probably means something else and was thrown in to distract us with Daenerys. Maybe it really means something like return the dragons to stone.
The Lord of Light’s job is done [Mellisandre walked away], so I’m not sure how this plays out. Is it now up to man to fight his own battles vs man [or woman]. I think the God of Death [Many Faced God] still wants Dany dead for taking thousands of lives that weren’t “hers to take” and “not repaying the debt owed”. During the War for the Dawn, both the Children of the Forest and The First Men formed an alliance to defeat the original white walkers, and the CotF now are represented by Bran as the 3-Eyed Raven. So we have the 3ER of the Children of the Forest joining the reincarnation of Azor Ahai, Arya, to defeat the false prophet, Daenerys.

It was exactly the kind of ending GRRM said it would be a little while back. He said he didn’t want to end GoT the way LoTR ended, with the viewers having no idea what happens with the characters after the fight is over. Think of it as like 40 min of bonus material, w/ the climactic ending occurring last week and during the beginning of E6. It was a proper farewell to the characters.

Eh it was ok. Pissed that you guys posted those Bran odds. Kind of ruined the surprise of him becoming king. Not that you knew, of course.

So i guess Jon can go north of the wall as he pleases? The better ending would be him as the king.

And I guess Bran can find Drogon with the raven site?

Drogon is my favorite character. He melted the throne bc he knew it killed Dany. Not Jon.

I took that scene as Jon just taking the Widlings home as part of his Nightwatch duties.

Drogon has the heart of a poet and is obviously a theatre kid. First he stands perfectly behind Dany to spread his wings at the right spot to show her off. Then he always screams at the right time. I was wondering during that scene if Drogon and Dany practiced their routine. It was quite effective.

Burns down the thrown for the symbolism.

At first, i didn't like Bran sitting on the throne...but the more I thought about it the more I realized the point of what Tyrion was saying about stories was that they only need a figurehead on the throne. All that figurehead needs is a good story, and the advisors will actually run things. No one has too much power that way.

Dany was right. If she was going to be liberating the world, she had to Keyser Söze Kings Landing. If not, she'd face the same situation over and over again. She told everyone this, they just didn't listen.

Bran or rather the Three Eyed Raven possessed Bran, was the ultimate evil and the night king was trying to stop him from becoming the seer king. Undead army didn't cross the wall until he did, and he was their ultimate goal. Drogon is the only threat left, which is why as soon as he found out no one knew where Drogon was he left the meeting to find him. No interest anything else yet. Jon not staying in the watch is a mistake by the Three Eyed Raven. Now there is a possibility for the Targaryen line to continue and eventually meet back up with Drogon. We know how Jon is with wilding women.

One last battle to slay Dany would’ve been great but I doubt they had the time nor budget to produce something that extravagant. It really needed to end quietly then & there at KL before things could have any opportunity to re-escalate IMO.

There were some parts that I didn't like about the final episode.

But, it was a satisfying ending. The first trailer of season 8 foreshadowed the ending to some degree.

I was frustrated by this season. Not that Dany went mad .. and I think the final episode captured her madness and the seductive nature of her power for a soldier. But, it just didn't take enough time or depth of suffering to create realism in it - even if the elements were certainly there in terms of which trajectory she would eventually lean. Stories were just too shallow. And at times the characters were made to look really dumb - unbearably so.

In the last episode I felt some key characters were underutilized - as they have been much of the season. e.g., Bran (esp. if he's going to be king). They showed a lot of Arya but in a lot of ways, she did nothing. They did the same thing with Bran and Cersei. They would show them staring but they were doing nothing.

It's like D&D were just too burnt out to do anything with them. Should have been 10 episodes.

They should have found someone to take over after season 5 or 6. That is when they went full Dany. Too focused on the end goal, no matter how many stories and characters they kill. (stories and characters are symbolism for women and children)

I get the criticisms about things being rushed. Things were rushed.

But regardless of what people just claim without facts, they simply couldn't make that many more seasons and/or episodes to even out the pacing. There were real world variables from budget to cast that prevented them from going further. In a perfect world, those restrictions wouldn't matter and we could have had this whole season building up to and concluding the Night King War, then another full season to build up and conclude the Dany tyrant arc.

It sucks but it isn't really anyone's fault.

In my fanboy complaint, I am really sad that I didn't get to see Dany sit on the Iron Throne. She just looked at it and touched it. It would have been nice that after 10 years, to just see her sit down. Didn't have to take that long of time. When Jon walks in this room with zero guards for some reason, she gets up.

My ultimate fanboy wish was for her to cut herself on the Throne. She gets up. Jon notices the cut, makes a little nod, that he remembers the story of the terrible king who kept on cutting himself on the iron throne, and thus making her unworthy to sit on the throne.

Then murder her without any guards in the room for some reason. Probably good writing

Also, Stark men are just honest to a fault. Just say, "She was gone before I got in. I don't know where she went."

If not for the blood Jon could have made up a story that Drogon took Dany away after he melted the throne. Maybe Drogon is taking Dany to see a Red Woman to bring her back.

Varys really got screwed over and Tyrion gets to keep his position.

Which one is the better spinoff?

Jon and GiantsBane with the Wildling
North of a wall with a hole?

Sansa and her Winterfell dress making business?

Aryas adventures West of Westeros. Where the maps dont go? Will she be pissed when she lands east of the Dothraki (round world and all). Maps are flat. The ball/globe not invented yet?

Dany brought back by Drogon. Time for a Winterfall BBQ? Or does she get back with Dario?

Sir Bronn of the Brothel. Master of Coin. Master of Loin. With guest apperances by Tyrion, the not so limp imp!! . Bran the Broken, is there really nothing going on down below? Podrick the Wise. His secret exposed.

I absolutely HATED the last episode for 100 different reasons....mainly because it made me hate Tyrion.....after it made me hate Dany the week before.

Think about it- Tyrion betrayed the queen, challenged her in her big moment, then played a very stupid and insecure Jon. Tyrion insists only Jon can change things, that he's destined to rule......and then he stabs him in the back and convinces everyone on Bran. Only, Bran expected it the whole time, which means he could have warned Jon before everyone died...so now I hate Bran too.

Sansa? **** Sansa. All that talk of loyalty only to stab her brother in the back and become queen. Jon's the true heir, yet he's sentenced to the watch because the Unsullied insist on it? And the people would be okay with the King of the North just being tossed aside? Heck no! Plus, the freaking Unsullied are leaving on a boat anyway....screw them and what they want! So Jon's whole family gets to rule because of him, yet he's sent off and forbidden to have kids or a wife after all that?

And speaking of the Unsullied, there's no way they don't try to kill Jon...we were denied a great fight scene. The traveled the world to end up with nothing, and there's no way they'd just walk away. Then Greyworm doesn't even get a vote yet Sam and Brianna does?

But the worst part of all? Dani asked Jon to rule with her...she wanted to share the throne after all. That means she's not "mad" after all, and Jon had a shot at convincing her (in time) to lay off the wars. If he truly loved her then there was no reason to kill her- Arya was leaving anyway and Sansa was going north. So Jon's betrayal made zero sense other than cleaning up plot lines.

I'm sorry, no freaking way. That was by far the worst ending in television history.

couldn't disagree more. I think your bromance with Jon Snow has you pretty upset.

Tyrion didn't stab Jon in the back. Tyrion did what was right for the kingdom(s). Jon looked like he was a broken man after killing his queen. Bran was similar to Jon in that he didn't want the throne so they were both good choices. Why would Bran warn anybody - not his MO.

there is zero evidence that Dani was "not mad after all". All signs pointed her to being mad and still wanted Jon to rule by her side. and the dialog in the show also pointed to no chance of convincing her to cool down the wars, that's why Jon Snow had to kill her. He knew she was unwavering.

I was just fine with the ending. It played out just like it should have. The Starks and Jon Snow get brutalized for 7 seasons. season 8, they finally turn it around until they are the survivors and rulers.

I enjoyed the series, the finale was good, maybe somethings to gripe about but 8 amazing seasons, maybe the best show ever. I will take that if it has some warts.
On a side note, I'm not sure why HBO lines up Barry the same night with GOT, it is probably getting lost in the shadow of it. The season 2 final episode was crazy, that show might be the best show on TV right now.

To me, Tyrion pushed Snow to take the throne the past 1 1/2 episodes...only to not even mention his name when it really mattered. That pissed me off....and Sansa, Bran and Arya stayed quiet as well. Bran did give a prophecy though- Jon was in line to be the true king by blood. He set all that in motion with Sansa, yet when crowns were being handed out....um, yeah. They rode Jon like a pony then put him out to pasture as soon as they were done using him.

I sort of agree with you on Dani...they didn't portray her as "mad" though. Maybe overzealous? A "mad queen" would have executed Jon and been done with it....she extended the olive branch and asked him to rule with her. Dani fans will be going absolutely nuts today I'm sure- I just think they could have played that scene out a whole lot better. If she was meant to be mad, then have her threaten Jon, make him defend himself and let him kill Grey Worm in the process. Then have Dani call the dragon, it wouldn't kill Jon since he's of the same bloodline and he takes her life....then everyone is happy (or as happy as you can be when what should have been a full season took place in 25 minutes).

Then let him choose the Night's Watch if he doesn't want to rule- give people some closure though for the series main hero.

To me though, Bran is straight evil- he allowed the whole thing to happen and played everyone. Then you see his council- really? The all-seeing raven picked some of the greediest jerks in the whole realm? It was just super poor writing all the way around and I can see why over a million people have signed a petition to have HBO re-do the final season.
