Is Rosen’s sluggish game processing speed a symptom, or is it real concern that cannot be overcome with time and experience?

It is a concern even for a rookie, but no telling whether or not it can be overcome (yet). You just never know.

I would think that anyone that has the intelligence that he has will be able to improve his processing speed as he gains experience. Again, we don't know what kind of coaching he was getting in Arizona. If anyone is going to be able to get the best out of him, it's Jim Caldwell.

He didnt always process slowly which gives me hope. A lot of people dont realize that in order to process what you see, you need to understand it and that comes from coaching.

You can solve every college defense and certain things transition, but game in and game out teams are throwing out new wrinkles a QB needs to be properly prepared for.

A veteran QB with a lesser staff might get by. A rookie QB definitely needs guidance I dont believe he got.

So I believe he can improve but it's not guaranteed

Agree with this Key - how many people on this board have moaned that the Fins didn't draft any other QB's in the last 7 years to push RT but when we've managed to get a young QB for not a great deal in a weak QB draft, they then moan about that. Will he be the answer - no idea but at least we've had a swing for the fences.

I think what I took umbrage with was the "experimenting" comment. It implies just throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks. There's just too much gray area and if you dedicate too much time "experimenting" with Rosen, it leaves less focus on potentially drafting the right QB and providing them with the right personnel.

I believe someone said this in the thread, but there needs to be a timetable set and it better not be 7 years that's for sure. They aren't getting Rosen with a clean slate, so the journey is a tad more complicated than drafting their possible future in 2020/2021.

Other than that, I do agree that this team should always have "talent" in the stable.

All I can say to this is look what happened to Steve Young. He was considered a bust with the Bucs so they took Vinny Testaverde after just one year. We know what happened with the 49’s, which would not have happened if they didn’t take the chance.

But see that's cherry picking a minority example to defend a preconceived assumption. I don't think anyone is doubting whether it's "possible" if you just "take a chance".

I agree with that as well. Since the franchise didn't draft a QB this year though and they let Falk leave (he's in NY with Gase), I would think 2019 would be all the experimenting they'd need with Rosen. Like I said, the goal isn't to figure out if he's a perennial starter heading to a Pro Bowl....it's if he's good enough to at least be our #2 arm.

In other words, can he be on Matt Moore's level by season's end? That's all we're trying to figure out in this scenario. And if the answer looks like a "no", then I think we draft our QB next season no matter what. This won't be a 7-year wait and see type of scenario like it was with Tannehill.

I think the only way that's not the case is if he really lights it up this season and shocks everyone...but that would be a different story anyway.

Holy cow! If Rosen doesn’t work out you can pat yourself on the back because you were right. However, I will add that football isn’t always logical and based on high level math and stats. If it were then a guy like cbrad could calculate the Dolphins to a Super Bowl. Sure, you want to go with the odds if you can, but since there are so many variables at play that many times a player surprises and exceeds expectations. That’s what makes it fun. We never know.

Plus what fun is it to just 100% expect it wont work out?

It probably WONT but it doesnt work out for most players. Let's see where it goes.

To some extent the jury is still out on Johnson. A bad Oline and poor offensive scheming didn't help but he also didn't run the same way he did in 2017. It will be interesting to see how they use him in the Air raid offense. The problem is if he gets hurt again there is no one of any value behind him.
