Embarrassing. Even more embarrassing when it's 75% Ravens fans next Sunday. At least Rosen might have gotten people a little bit excited. Boycott is on. See ya when Rosen is out there.
For me, the clock is basically ticking on Flores. Haven't been impressed with anything at all so far. And once the games actually start, its not likely to get prettier.
Not the intelligent decision IMO... Par for the course though for this franchise lately. You know what Fitz is... you traded assets for Rosen... figure out what he is.
I disagree 100%. It is the most intelligent decision. Rosen needs a little more seasoning, and the offense is going to be completely brand new. The line is going to be still gelling together. To set Rosen up for success it is best to start Fitz. Also, there is the Fitzpatrick curse to consider. You need to start Fitz.
We're going to have a true QB competition. - Flores Preseason final stats... Ruddock 34-48 (71%); 366 yrds, 3 tds, 1 int, 105 rating Rosen 28-45 (62%); 352 yrds, 0 tds, 1 int, 77 rating Fitzpatrick 17-32 (53%); 166 yrds, 1 td, 0 int, 78 rating So, Fitzpatrick won the gig based on what?
This season feels like the Cam Cameron era again.. we have such a void of talent and speed on both sides id be shocked if we make it competitive on any game ... well at least if they win ill be excited as hell since the bar is very low
Rosen will be the QB after the first four or five games, what's Brian Flores supposed to do straight up admit he wants Fitzpatrick to be the crash test dummy out there with the bad O-line?
I'll be honest that I'm not impressed with how Flores handles things so far, but we all saw this coming. Did anyone think Rosen was in the lead?
Fitzpatrick was going against first teamers, Rosen against second teamers and Ruddock against third teamers.
This makes perfect sense to me. With our O line, there's a chance the QB is going to get his a** handed to him every other down. Better to wear the old un's out first, as me mam used to say about my trainers....
I have no idea what was ever going on in FLores' head, but Rosen seemed to be the better QB from about the second week of camp onwards. The question now becomes how long of a rope they give Fitz to hang himself.
I am not at all excited about the type of offense we're likely to see with Fitzpatrick under center. It was only reinforced during the preseason. Deep bombs and dump offs, and plenty of throws into triple coverage. I see a lot of three and outs and turnovers, a very poor time of possession, and an embarassingly few number of plays run. Basically, the same thing that we had under Gase the last few years.
Preseason is just what we see. There are practices and meetings. Plus Rosen and Ruddock has a lot more to prove in preseason. Plus it is also a simplified version of the offense.
True, but leadership and bravado in practices and the classroom can be faked. Production on gameday can not faked. When it was time to go full speed against an opponent, Fitz did not win the competition. If it's only a simplified version of the offense, then the QB should look his sharpest. Fitz looked like the worst QB to me in what Flores said was going to be a true competition. If you can't master the simplified stuff, then why should I expect you to shine when it gets complicated? I will wait before I go on any rant. Full disclosure...If Lamar Jackson steamrolls over us, then I will be going nuts. That should be our QB. I still can't get over the fact that we didn't draft him. It pissed me off last year that he took that 4-6 trash team to the playoffs. It will only piss me off even further if we lose to him.
Bombs, dump offs, and risky throws is exactly what Rosen showed against the 2's and 3's in camp and the first two PS games. The only time Rosen showed anything was after teams pulled their 1's and his best game was PS game 3. Also, if Williams hadn't been bailing him out, he'd have been the same turn over machine he was in AZ. He and Fitz both posted sub 80 PR ratings. As the guy who has beat the drum loudest for Rosen and harped none stop about how unfair it was for him to be starting last year in AZ behind a poor OL (at the wee tender age of 21 no less), I have no idea why you of all people would want him starting behind what we've fielded this preseason, especially against the Ravens and murderer's row of defenses we face to start the season. Flores is obviously spoon feeding him and building up his confidence, and it makes complete sense to baby him right now, let the team gel the first four games, then start him against the Skins after the BYE. That gives him the best opportunity to show whether he can be the franchise QB or not the remaining 3/4 of the season.
You can make an argument that Flores wants to see how bad the OL really is against an aggressive defense and since Fitzmagic is the short term guy -he is the one being sacrificed here. Given a couple games to gel, the OL may rise up to.... average? Then Rosen can be made the starter and have a better chance to succeed. Which seems to fall in line with those who have been thinking that Fitzmagic gets the first four games and then the change is made during the bye-week. With a possible (probable?) 0-4 or 1-3 record, no one can complain Rosen was just handed the job over the vet QB. All that said, things seemed more dynamic when Rosen was in, so unless we see more of that Fitzmagic to start the season, it will probably be pretty ugly.
Preseason stats don’t tell the full story. Rudock never played with nor against the starting line up. Rosen and Fitz both did. While I personally want Rosen for the future, the last damned thing I want is to throw him to the wolves without knowing for sure there is an OL that can protect him for 60 full minutes. Rosen is going to get the nod by week 6 or 7. That what Fitz gives...dynamite that makes a brilliant explosion but once the smoke clears, there’s nothing left to see
If Jackson runs all over us it will be because we are bad. I wont trash what he did win wise but I'm glad he isnt our QB. I see average with the occasional great outing as his ceiling.
I see Jackson passing for fewer than 150 yards and turning the ball over at least three times Week 1.
bravo Flores, good job.. Part of the reason why I felt he should not start was the humbling process from where he started to where he is now.. I thought and think Flores has done a wonderful job, the player needed it and the player also needed to be recalibrated.. Now, when you have a player with hi level talent, who is now humbled, and will not be spoon fed anymore, you have a chance of that player being what you envision.. he’s about the process of becoming something, and really smart and self introspective, now instead of the instant notoriety based on his lifetime of being around “yes josh” people, you now have a humble, hard working, hi level talent developing in your QB room Flores tamed him well..
Will your thoughts change if (when) Fitzpatrick is playing lousy and he's still out on the field every week?
Fitz may well not survive long so we may get Rosen sooner rater than later. But anybody hoping for his success should want to give him as much time as possible before he's forced to start.
AKA, give the line as much time as possible so they can figure out how to block people trying to kill the QB. I don't expect Fitz to make it out of the first month...I feel for him to be honest.
The whole offensive line thing is absolute garbage because magically this ragtag group is going to be better on Week 8? And, I can guarantee that Week 8 offensive line is going to look nothing like the Week 1 offensive line. Put that narrative to bed. Flores has no balls. Plain and simple.
He went with the "safe" choice. He's soft. Then he tried to be like Belichik at the press conference. Question... Fitzpatrick is the starter. Question... Fitzpatrick is the starter. Embarrassing.
Any thoughts on the OL guys we traded for Key? I am guessing they are mostly for OL depth. I get that it would be hard to trade for an actual high-level starter at this point. Injuries happen all the time, and teams want to have a guy that can step in and not miss a beat.
What I find hilarious is many of you wanted a bridge qb per say, a qb to transition so we could “Tank for Tua”. Well, you didn’t get Bridgewater as that bridge, you got Fitzpatrick instead and now that you have that “bridge”, you’re complaining that Fitz is starting over Rosen. Some of your arguments are scattered all over the place like a shotgun pattern. If Fitz falters and we suck, you got what you wanted, to be in a position to draft Tua as your next franchise qb If Fitz falters, Rosen comes in and falters, you got what you wanted, to be in a position to frat Tua as your next franchise qb If Fitz falters and Rosen comes in and wins every game he starts, you got what you wanted. A franchise qb If Fitz lights up the scoreboard and we go the playoffs, you got what you wanted, a winning season Quit your complaining. There’s no downside
Both guys have been in the league a few years and each of them have some starts...followed by time on the bench. So it looks like they're both high 2nd stringers, maybe low 1st stringers when someone goes down. It's hard to find film just for linemen, but from what little I saw they are both okay (not great, not garbage). They're slight upgrades over our reserves...that's about it.
