2007 #9 Ted Ginn jr 2008 #1 Jake Long 2009 #25 Vonte Davis 2010 #28 Jared Odrick 2011 #15 Mike Pouncey 2012 #8 Ryan Tannehill 2013 #3 Dion Jordan 2014 #19 Jawaun James 2015 #14 Devante Parker 2016 #13 Laremy Tunsil 2017 #22 Charles Harris 2018 #11 Minkah Fiztpatrick 2019 #13 Christain Wilkins Thoughts?
2020 #Tua Tagovailoa or 2021 #Trevor Lawrence or both? or insert <gem QB who isn't one of those but not sure if I believe Grier can find a gem QB other than the obvious picks> That's my only thought right now. That's the major point of all this.
Aside from Jordan and Harris, the last few years picks have been good players. We just haven't retained them. Were there better players those years? Maybe. But only Dion is the bust, with the jury still out on Harris.
Agree Galant the team doesn't necessarily miss on them it seems retaining the solid players is a fail. Kinda like a savings account you need to keep adding it up that spending hurts the outcome.
It would not surprise me in the least if Tua decides to remain at Alabama instead of being drafted by the Dolphins. Lawrence will only be a junior in 2021. So he might decide to stay for his senior year at Clemson to avoid the chance of being drafted by the Dolphins. With the turnover on the roster and the fact there are very few players now on the roster to build around, this rebuilding job is likely to take 4-5 years. No young QB in his right mind would want to be drafted by an organization which has clearly showed that they have no idea how to put a quality offensive line on the field. While I had no problem with rebuilding the roster after years of mediocrity. I had a serious issue with Grier being the GM designated to rebuild this team. He has been with the Dolphins for all the years they have been mediocre and exactly what has he shown over all those years which led Ross to believe he is the right person to turn this team into a winner. Ross and his inability to hire individuals who understand how to build a winning football team is the major issue with the Miami Dolphins. I honestly don’t think this team will ever be turned around until Ross is no longer the owner.
I'd call half of that list solid players and none of them are generational talent. This is a depressing record.
If you change Jake Long and Jared Odrick to Matt Ryan and Earl Thomas, which was certainly possible, you have an entirely different team for the past decade.
I'd say Pouncey and Minkah were elite talent, and of course Jake Long was a generational type player. Both linemen were slowed by injury though and now Minkah wants out, so it's hard to view them as positives for the franchise at the moment.
Jared freaking Odrick. Another one of many players that we drafted that were in no way anymore special that was picked over guys that were obviously much more superbly talented. Guys like Koa Misi and others. That's not even Monday morning quarterbacking, many of us saw how obvious some of these bad draft picks were when they were being made. Why does this team constantly miss on these seemingly obvious picks? From one idiotic regime to another? I seriously think some of our resident armchair GMs who do mock drafts on here and other sites can do hell lot better picking players than the last few GMs we've had, I mean just look at our draft record. Obviously this team hasn't had a clue. Even when we draft well we don't retain those players. So what is the point?
I look at that and think we hit on 7/13 1st rounders which I’m guessing is on par or above average for the NFL. I think our biggest issue has been 2nd and 3rd round misses.
Mike Giesicki Raekwon McMillan Xavien Howard Jordan Phillips Jarvis Landry Jamar Taylor Jonathan Martin Daniel Thomas Koa Misi Pat White Philip Merling Chad Henne John Beck Samson Satele Outside of Howard and Landry, really no quality starters. Satele and Misi were decent but not good. I’m guessing 4/14 would put us in the bottom of the league for 2nd round picks.
