As awful as I expected this year to be, I figured at least there wouldn't be any more Tannehill arguments. Move on.
Not much Tua-talk here other than saying, "Tua, Tannehill and every other QB will struggle behind a bad offensive line." And gee-whiz, that's actually aged pretty good for the last 50+ years.
But here's the big point I think everyone needs to understand- Grier basically threw Tannehill away. How does a GM toss someone out with the trash, only to see that player have the #1 QB rating in football the following season with someone else? So pretty much day 1 on the job, Grier showed that he couldn't evaluate QB talent or recognize why our QB was struggling. As fans, we're supposed to be divided on that stuff because WE'RE NOT NFL GM's! But Grier should have known better. Even Gase knew RT was an absolute stud being let down by his team. If you look back, I threw an absolute rant about Grier brainwashing Ross with the "perennial playoff contender" talk. And honestly, I was partially wrong...we built a pretty solid football team and did a whole lot with inferior talent (mostly due to Flores). But the protecting your QB stuff, it's absolutely inexcusable in my book...that's every GM's #1 job. Who cares what someone offered for Tunsil, you absolutely positively have to protect your QB and Grier let him walk too. I know I'm playing devil's advocate here but crap, developing linemen is just as important as developing quarterbacks. One can't happen without the other unless you draft Russel Wilson. Grier showed us right off the bat that he didn't understand the importance of pretty good tackles in Tunsil and James....or what Tannehill could have been if you shored up the guard slots.
I think it’s fair to say you and I agree on this one point…the offensive line is THE most fundamental part of an offense. It doesn’t matter WHO your quarterback is… It doesn’t matter WHO your running back is… If the offensive line is not a solid rock…the cornerstone of your offense, your quarterback is going to be running for his life of be on his back most of the game; your running back is going to be lucky to average a few yards per carry. Now don’t get me wrong, having a good quarterback is important…having a good running back is important, but having good/great quarterbacks/running backs without that cornerstone of an offense will only go so far.
