For the first time ever I've been watching college football and amongst other things I've found the big college bands to be pretty cool. I think they do a lot for the atmosphere. Cheerleaders are falling out of grace more and more it seems, and teams are trying to improve their in stadium product - should NFL Teams consider having regular bands? It would get a yes from me! I think there's some real scope for it.
Would certainly be a better option than cheerleaders. That profession is completely useless and degrading.
My opinion is actually the opposite. That band have even become passe at the college level, and are a relic of an older time when that was the best that was available. Today, with jumbo screens and music pumped in, its really all unnecesary.
You're not convincing me with that argument. You're right that the ambient music at the arena is covered, but the band adds a physical presence and I think that makes a difference. We spend enough time looking at screens etc. I think the overall live product at arenas could be enhanced with something you can't replace at home etc. with real spirit and atmosphere at the stadiums.
Bands are pretty cool. The Ohio State band does some wacky stuff at half time: The sound of actual physical instruments in a stadium can't be beat. It can only add value to the experience of being at the stadium. So my vote is a yes.
Excellent. Florida A&M does, and has always done, a phenomenal job as well. Far more entertainment value than any jumbo tron can provide.
