The House Is Really, Really, Coming Down

    Old Mother Hubbard
    Went to the cupboard,
To give the poor dog a bone:
    When she came there,
    The cupboard was bare,
And so the poor dog had none.

A while back, when the rebuild was announced (and tank proclaimed) I posted an analogy that we were about to embark on a re-modelling project and that the 'house' was about to look really, really ugly. It wouldn't just be a matter of re-painting the walls, changing the floor and hanging new curtains. The doors, walls, windows, were coming down. It was a major tear down, and that the first part of this, the demolition stage, would be the ugliest and hardest part.

Well guys, we're part way through, and we've cut guys, traded guys, had trade requests, and now Drake is on the block too. Rosen was on the bench, off the bench, and now he's back on the bench. We're losing. A lot. I think it's safe to say that it's clear now that this wasn't a matter of having some good guys and adding some pieces, even a lot of pieces. This is a matter of wanting to change the whole outfit. The house has been/is being torn down, and the plan, clearly, is to build a new one in its place.

Sure, Miami have to field a team this season, but I think the clear reality is that this team right now is a placeholder. Some pieces may remain, when all is said and done, just like they might in a major remodelling project. But the vast majority will be gone. This will, essentially, be a new house. Also like a full remodel, sometimes when you're tearing things down, you lose things you had thought you'd keep. Surprises happen. Tunsil, evidently, wasn't part of the initial plan, nor was Minkah, but the tear down started, buyers showed up, and they're gone. I think it all goes to show that whatever we may have felt about this team that we were happy with, the Dolphins FO were and are fully set on building a brand new house, whatever that means.

I think it's a worthwhile thing to see and know. Miami's eyes are on the future right now. The coach is already working, already doing his job, because he has too, he's learning, working. But parts are being pulled, new parts will be added, so what he can do right now is very limited, even to his frustration, perhaps. Either way, he's a coach with a tent, not a house.

The roofs off. The walls are down. The house is gone. Whatever the Miami Dolphins were is finished. What they will be, only the future can tell. But right now, it is, as expected, pretty cold and windy.

The new house can't come soon enough.

You see these shows on TLC all the time. Miami's getting flipped, the house was bought and inspected and remodeled. As it should be.

Using this remodel analogy, it’s not going to be until 2021/2022 before we see Miami a contender...IF it’s done properly. If not, Miami has become the Detroit of the south

I watched one of those renovation shows the other week- they tried to take down one wall to make an expansion, but instead the whole house collapsed. That's the Miami Dolphins folks.

Yup, but it almost doubled their budget and it took an extra three months. Awesome house in the end.

But is it really a remodel if it's a whole new house?

I don't love the house analogy.

A proper analogy would be that of interior decorating.

We've sold all the old furniture and collected as much cash as possible. Now the house is empty and unlivable.

The question of whether the next iteration is better really depends on how much money we have and who decorates it.

Knocking down the house would be more like selling the team and having the new owner move it to a new location altogether in an attempt to start fresh with a new fan-base.

If you're looking for a new floor-plan, honey, this ain't gone be it.
