Texans are going to lose to the Colts after a late INT. Minor good news, but keeping the Texans from being the Division winner would be nice.

Im on the Justin Herbert bandwagon but Burrow is having a great season. He was nowhere near this good last year. He's definitely a good option. I'm not a Tua fan at all

For those of you in the tank, you can thank me. I walked into the local sports bar to see the rest of the game. Miami up 14-10...driving...about to score again...then Fitzpartrick threw the interception.

Hell, had I stayed home, Miami might've actually won

So there is a conundrum next week. The Dolphins can either lose to Steelers and improve their own pick or they can beat the Steelers and improve the Steelers pick from the Minkah trade. In the ideal circumstance where you can pick the outcome of the game, which would you choose?

    Eventually we’ll win some game.

And I don’t think we MUST have the top pick.

There are plenty of great players in the upcoming draft, not to mention a handful of interesting QB prospects. We should be fine in any spot in the top 5, so I’d rather win this one and upgrade our pick from Pittsburgh.

The best case tanking scenario is for us to go 1-15 with the win being against Pitt. It increases the value of the Minkah trade pick and it means Cincy (our stiffest competition fir the #1 pick) will have a win against us, giving us the tiebreaker for the #1 pick.

Even better would be to go 3-13 with a win against Pitt and 2 wins against the Jets and still getting the number 1 pick.

As an aside, Cincy’s HC is the same clown who got given the job of QB coach when Tannehill came into the league, just for being Mike Sherman’s son in law. SomI expevt them to give us serious competition for the #1 pick.

I’m on the opposite end of this disbelief spectrum. Can’t understand how Dolphins fans that have seen decades with no solution at the QB position wouldn’t want to maximize the chances of finding a long term solution.

Imagine the Wannstedt era with an above average QB instead of Fiedler. Imagine getting Brees instead of Culppeper. Imagine if Pennington didn’t get injured and gave us multiple years of above average QB play. We’re talking possible SB’s in some of those cases.

None of our coaches/GM’a have been able to solve the QB problem. So you give them the best chance to do so = #1 pick. I’m finally feeling better as a fan thinking we might actually be doing something smart here. Have to succeed though.. but I like the plan: #1 pick for a QB and tons of good quality draft picks to build a new roster.

Thats the problem though. Like him or hate him our front office had their QB in Tannehill without having to give up the farm to get him. That means that we got to see the Front office at its best putting together a talented roster without having the draft drag of finding its QB. And the Dolphins of the last few years was the best they could come up with.

NOBODY FROM THAT FRONT OFFICE SHOULD BE ANYWHERE NEAR OUR DRAFT WAR ROOM!

I would probably feel better if we were going into the next draft with a complete unknown doing the draft to be honest.

I still think its a huge mistake to tank for a QB with Grier making the decisions.

But the thing though brad, is it's not necessarily the number one pick that gets you the quarterback to solve your problems.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_starting_quarterbacks_in_the_National_Football_League

    Just highlighting a few...

Matt Ryan was the first QB drafted. The Falcons weren't a bad team, but with Michael Vick's off the field dog fighting drama distracting the team, they were in desperate need for a QB to lead the team. The overall team itself though was actually pretty decent.

Drew Brees, the 32nd pick and the only other QB drafted in the first round. Vick was the first overall pick. No need to elaborate much here.

The jury's still out on Lamar Jackson, but seeing how he was the 5th QB drafted behind Mayfield, Darnold, Rosen and Allen, it shows that you don't need the first QB. Mayfield, Darnold and Rosen are but a series of first picked not necessarily being the best.

Trubisky, the first QB taken in the 2017 draft has struggled up in Chicago while Mahomes has flourished in Kansas City.

Matthew Stafford in Detroit, the number 1 pick in the 2009 draft...Well, the Detroit Lions are the Detroit Lions. So desperate for a QB they drafted the best available quarterback...which wasn't necessarily the best quarterback for the team.

Aaron Rodgers...a name thrown around as one of the elite of the elites. Heir apparent to Brett Favre was drafted 24th...behind the number 1 pick in Alex Smith

Russell Wilson, the quarterback of the Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks was drafted 75th...behind Andrew Luck, Robert Griiffin III, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weedon and Brock Osweiller. The 5 before him? Out of the league or relegated to back-ups

And of course the crème de la crème of picks, Tom Brady, drafted at 199 behind Chad Pennington, Chris Redman, Tee Martin, Marc Bulger, and Spergon Wynn.

That's just highlighting a few of the winning quarterbacks that weren't the FIRST pick. Of those that were picked first or second?

    2000; Chad Pennington (18)
    2001; Michael Vick (1)
    2002; David Carr (1), Joey Harrington (3)
    2003; Carson Palmer (1), Byron Leftwich (7)
2004; Eli Manning (1), Phillips Rivers (4), Ben Roethlisburger (11) (This was actually a good QB draft class)
    2005; Alex Smith (1)
    2006; Vince Young (3), Matt Leinart (10)
    2007; Jamarcus Russell (1)
    2008; Matt Ryan (3)
    2009; Matthew Stafford (1), Mark Sanchez (5)
    2010; Sam Bradford (1)
2011; Cam Newton (1), Jake Locker (8), Blaine Gabbert (10)
2012; Andrew Luck (1), Robert Griffin III (2), Ryan Tannehill (8)
    2013; EJ Manual (16)
    2014; Blake Bortles (3)
    2015; Jameis Winston (1), Marcus Mariota (2)
    2016; Jared Goff (1), Carson Wentz (2)
    2017; Mitchell Trubusky (2), Patrick Mahomes (10)
2018; Baker Mayfield (1), Sam Darnold (3), Josh Allen (7), Josh Rosen (10)
    2019; Kyler Murray (1), Daniel Jones (6)

Now I went back to 2000, but I could go back even further but the point I'm trying to illustrate is the first quarterback taken doesn't equate the success. If it did, then Vick, Carr, Palmer, Manning, Smith, Russell, Stafford, Bradford, Newton, Luck, Winston and Goff would all have Super Bowl rings. ( I give a pass on 2017 on...not enough to evaluate)

This is all old news. The chances of landing the QB you want with ANY pick is low. Same as with any other position (all less important than QB of course). But you'd rather have your first choice at QB than your 2nd or 3rd right? All I'm saying is that there's no reason to be "shaking your head" that some of us want to have that 1st overall pick to increase our chances as much as possible. It's a viable strategy.

However, the fans were all about Suck for Luck that year and because we won some games, our consolation prize was RT (which many people thought was a reach but because we needed a QB, we had to take him at 8), so by that reckoning, we would have needed to give up the farm for the QB we really wanted.
Don't forget, we also have a load of other draft picks plus the cap space - this rebuild is not all about the QB at 1, it was about wiping the slate clean & re-booting the entire team, not just the QB spot. Do we want the best QB, definitely but that's not what it's all about.
Appreciate that not everyone is sold on Grier but we also have MacKenzie & Allen plus input from the coaching staff. Imo, they have done a pretty good job so far, as they have got the players playing hard & the system/players are improving week on week (MacKenzie & Allen do have a good track record). I don't want us to tank the season and we can see that the coaching staff & players are also not into this. As has been said, yes, you can get good/great QB's outside of the no 1 position but hopefully, the entire rebuild job will put us in a good position to improve everywhere across the entire team
