Serious question- how many of you here wear Jordans, LeBrons, or other "high end" celebrity brand Nike shoes? And if you wear them, do you buy the latest releases as they come out? I'm just really curious since I'd never consider paying $120+ for a pair of tennis shoes. I know there's collectors out there (which I find even more puzzling since you don't wear said $120+ shoes). I'm just wondering how many of you buy Nike's for either wearing or saving/collecting. No judgement...just genuine curiosity since we're talking about a $26B brand made from $8 sweat shop sneakers. So if you do buy the premium Nike brands, I'd like to know how often you buy and how well you take care of them- do you treat them like regular sneakers to run around town, work in the yard, play sports, etc...or do they stay pristine?
$120 is nothing for collectible shoes. What kind of shoes are you wearing? Air Max shoes will cost $150 for regular non collectible ones. the reason collectible Nike shoes are so expensive, is they are limited releases for popular styles/color ways, and people buy them up quickly and then resell them for $300+.
I started to put $150+ but I wasn't sure if that's where all the premium stuff started. You didn't answer my question though- do you buy the Air Max for $150? Or collectible versions for even more? I know they sell fast on eBay but that's a different story if you're buying to make a profit (or buying two pairs, then selling one of them to get your kicks for free). Right now I'm wearing two different pairs of Sketchers- one black pair and one grey....they were around $55-65 each I think? I wear sandals these days more than anything but I also work from home. Other than that, I have a pair of Dockers for semi-casual and two pairs of dress shoes for formal stuff.
I don't buy anything from Nike, but that isn't because I don't like Nike or anything like that. I don't buy Under Armour, Oakely's, or North Face, or really anything that is insanely over priced. No judgement on people who do, I just can't drop that much on shoes, glasses, or sporty tank top shirts/pants. I feel as though i'm simply paying for the name. I have a pair of KD 9s that I paid fifty bucks for and they are my workout shoe and nothing more, so that would be the only Nike brand apparel that probably even exists in my house, and i've had those for a few years. I'd rather buy a pair of fifty dollar running shoes and save the other hundred for gas towards a beach trip or to see a show/concert, but that's just me.
I do exactly the same thing- I go to a shoe store and buy for fit/comfort from a reputable brand...but if it's not Nike I don't think twice about it. Some folks are fanatical about the latest high end sneakers though and I was hoping we had a few of those here- I figured it was something to talk about and we could learn about that industry. I mainly asked because I have a friend who makes his living off of eBay and was curious if there was enough of a market for him to research it. Currently he's sold collectible toys for the past 8 years...there's nothing super hot this season though.
I do buy Air Max shoes, and I do have a pair of Air Max 97 in the silver bullet color way, and those were like $300, but they were bought by someone else. I but with relative frequency off of Poshmark.
Absolutely he should. Retro Jordans, retro Air Max shoes are usually available through the Nike website, but they're always very limited releases, so people use bots to buy as many as they can do they can resell. They usually completely sell out in minutes and the only way for the average person to get them is to pay exorbitant prices through eBay and similar sites.
Thanks, that's good to know...I will definitely pass that along. It's my best friend from childhood so I definitely try to look for trends for him whenever I come across something hard-to-get and highly desirable.
I have a couple pairs of Air Max 97s, a pair of retro Air Max 90s, and a sweet Miami Dolphins colorway Air Max Speed Turfs. The only pair I don't wear very often are the Silver Bullets cause they were $300.
Shoe culture, it's a thing. Not my thing, but a thing. It's really not different from other item based cultures/collector cultures, just based on shoes instead of cars, figurines, games, etc. I highly doubt they are purchased to wear for regular use. They may be worn a handful of times to specific events as kind of a show-off thing, but that's likely all.
My dad is into that. Has so many shoes. I don't get it. Also I have wide feet and Nike shoes are too narrow for me
That's why I mainly buy Sketchers- they're the widest I've found. I'm a 300 lb. ex-lineman so foot comfort is definitely my #1 priority in shoes these days.
I don't wear shoes except for work myself.I get crazy eyes from girls all the time walking around up here in flip flops when it's 40 and raining. I buy New Balance cuz like Key I have big old Freddy Flinstone feet. They are comfy and MADE IN AMERICA. So I buy those. They go on sale back to school times for about 50 a pair, I buy 2 and wear them out. I walk around 10-12 miles a day working. As far as NIKE shoes go Key I know from my time running Goodwill that some of them are worth $1,000s. Even worn. Of course condition determines value but some of them transcend that with the rarity of them. I've sold dozens of 10-20 yr old shoes for $500 or more. The department store off the shelf ones aren't anything really special but they make the shoes collectible by issuing limited editions and only producing styles for a couple years. I collect and buy/sell Oakleys sunglasses (and others) and they do the same thing. They increase in value every year you own them after production has stopped. First pair I bought in 96 for $60 are worth about $300 now. Be careful about buying NIKEs, especially for resale, there are millions of fakes of all different varieties.
I'm a Xennial...I guess. And I hate Sketchers, regardless of how comfortable they are. They're the new old person shoe...replacing New Balance as the ultimate old person shoe.
Shouldn't Boomers be New Balance? Sketchers seem to be an X/Xenniel. As a Xenniel/Elder Mil here, I had mostly gone sketchers, but actually found a cheap pair of LA Gear of all things that fit nicely. I tend to spend most of the summer in sandals and winters in boots though, so shoes aren't really a big thing for me.
10 years ago it would have been New Balance. Hahahahaha LA Gear is a blast from the past. Lolol. Salomon shoes are actually the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.
Honestly, nobody can argue that Kap isn't a better option than that rookie Carolina has starting right now.
LOL, but I started buying Sketchers in my late 20's...mainly because my little kids had to have them (they were the first to put that roller wheel on the back). I've never bought New Balance though!
Lol CMC has been carrying Kyle Allen... kyle was a BUST in college.. a bust before he even got to the NFL no lie.. 5 star out of high school and did nothing in college.. same with Driskell in Detroit.. He started out hot in college, then he went to face Alabama and threw 3 pick six’s.. saban pretty much destroyed his confidence and was never the same since.. Lost his job to Kyler Murray.. transferred to Houston and couldnt keep the starting job in a system that inflates qb numbers.. his NFL career is very similar to his college career..
Did you guys see this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...roger-goodell-his-nfl-tryout-still-unraveled/ Article is basically saying that while teams and the league office may have been against signing Kap, Roger Goodell has consistently been on Kap's side and lobbied teams to sign him. Some quotes:
Collecting shoes. I still don't get it. Shoes are just something I put on my feet. Nothing more. As long as they are comfortable that's about all that matters to me. In fact I think I prefer a beat up pair of shoes to a new pair. They are worn in and more comfortable.
People collect for different reasons. I like to buy shoes I wanted back in junior high/high school, but couldn't afford. So now I buy them, and don't outgrow them.
I'll wear a pair of sneakers/hiking boots to work in the yard until they're literally falling apart...it drives my wife crazy. But if they still fit and they're comfortable, why buy another pair of work shoes? I simply refuse to do it.
I totally get it. I collect old video games for similar reasons. Didnt have them all as a kid but wanted them or feel like I missed out on them.
An interesting read. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28139355/why-colin-kaepernick-nfl-were-never-going-work-out
I will say one thing, the best, most comfortable shoes I ever had was my Jordan 7's I bought when they came out. I have no interest in other Jordan's or whatnot but I would buy 10 pairs of those and wear them the heck out. Great shoes.
Thats me exactly. Once a pair is too far gone to wear out, they get a new life as yard shoes until there is nothing left.
LMAO. What a bunch of PR. The NFL is trying so pathetically hard (and apparently lying, too) to try and repair the broken bridges they destroyed the past few years from bungling so many issues.
I kind of see it the opposite way. Unless he was trying to pursue future lawsuits his concerns are invalid. He sounds incredibly self absorbed and paranoid for no reason if you read the other article about how it all went down.
Are your saying Kap sounds self absorbed and paranoid? After reading an article about the completely garbage waiver they wanted him to sign, I don't see anything Kap did as self absorbed or paranoid. You'd have to be an idiot to sign a waiver that could potentially give your employer that kind of control over you.
It didnt give them control over him though. That's his own delusion. The only way it would impact him is if he wanted to file further lawsuits, which if he is worried about doing that just shows ill intent. Especially since his initial lawsuit was kind if ridiculous, to me, to begin with. It implies the NFL has to sign him if he is talented enough to warrant being on a team. Unfortunately as with any job, that isnt the case.
The article I read made the point that it would have conceivably given the NFL to be able to say, fire him for kneeling, or other such things. In that light, it’s neither self absorbed or paranoid.
