It is not the same ankle, it's the same thing that happened to his other ankle last year. Something to be concerned with imo, but ultimately got to trust the medical staff. Plus, he will be back in time to see if and how much it effects him.

It is somewhat concerning, and it's maybe the most annoying thing to have happen, because identifying 'injury prone' is far more difficult than evaluating anything else. You pick him and then he's always injured you look back and say, "The signs were there! It was obvious! Waste of a pick!". Then again, you don't, it's not an issue, and it's all regret...

We can watch but there's nothing really to see. He'll be injured or he won't.

This make Burrow look better though. 5 years in college. I haven't heard mention of any injuries. Burrow's stock continues to increase both actively and passively.

After watching this weekends games... I watched Alabama, Oklahoma and LSU, I'm all in on Jalen Hurts. Burrow 1a. Hurts is the next Wilson/Jackson/Watson/ a little bit of Warren Moon I think.

    1 Hurts
    2 Burrow
    3 Herbert
    4 Eason
    5 Tui

Thats where I'm at this week anyway. Going to take some work to change the top 2 and honestly any of the five would be solid bet. I would like to see Tui and Eason take another year honestly. Tui won't, but he should. Unless Alabama is given another championship.

Hurts will be interesting.. his work ethic is his best trait... he puts in a lot of work.. his arm talent is what comes to question .. he kind of reminds me of tebow..

I know its a bit OT but was watching the MNF game today...

At one point Sam Darnold said “im seeing ghosts”..he was micd up tonight and he actually said those words which if i were a jets fan, that would be disturbing to hear from the face of the franchise. that quote was possibly the worst moment in jets history, worse than the butt fumble..

ive said it many times last year that kid is a bust and he was just a rookie... Just the way he carries himself... its just off...

...you can tell with Baker Mayfield even with the struggles he has had at this level, mayfield is a gamer, he has flashed plenty while also have made mistakes... hes got that attitude of a winner and a leader and hes got the arm talent... if i had to put money on it, id say he will hone it all together eventually and will become a franchise qb for the browns..

i am a big USC fan and was never impressed by Darnold... strong arm and has the measurables sure... he doesnt have IT tho.. And if you dont have the rest that makes a aaron rodgers, russell wilson, brees and brady special... then youre wasting your time on that prospect..

Thats how i feel about some of the guys on that list.. we dont need just an arm, we need a real leader, a gamer if we are trying to build something special.

Herbert is not the guy. Jake Fromn is not the guy. Herbert reminds me way too much of Eli Manning... his mechanics are not that great and has accuracy issues in tight windows..

Jake Fromm just isnt it... he will be lucky to get drafted in the 4th round...

jordan love will be lucky to get drafted... i liked him last season but this season hes regressed. He needs to stay in Utah State one more season..

Ehlinger and Eason.. if they feel their stock isnt high enough they will probably return for the senior season... i like Ehlingers gamesmanship and Eason has an NFL arm but hes got some mechanic issues that need to be cleaned up..

IMO it all comes down to tua, jalen and joe.. and then it comes down to our coaching staff and what they can do to make any of those 3 elite at this level

I don't know. I believe Mayfield believed in his hype and hasn't been doing the work. Being a gamer and having the attitude a winner on gameday is not worth much if you do not have it in the tape room.

    Spot on.

Of all the "names" so far only two look like they have "IT" to me. Key words "look like" Not talking about stats but the eye test. Who is a FOOTBALL PLAYER?

Hurts so far tops that list.

Good stuff. However, I disagree on Herbert. He's my first choice with Hurts as my second. Herbert shows NFL traits with his pump fakes and hitches, with his cannon of an arm and with his sometimes.. and I hate to say it, Brady like touch an accuracy. He is also mobile for a big guy. I don't see the Eli comparison, though I'd take those two SB rings Eli has. He's having a bit of an off year compared to his previous, but the kid is a pup. Get him some solid coaching and I think he can be really good. Hurts looks good, but nothing really special jumps out when I watch him. However, I could certainly be wrong and Hurts is my second choice, but it's early and either way, I want Chase Young with the first. 1a Chase Young, 1b Justin Herbert

I got a feeling, just seeing how hard Jalen Hurts works at his game, he isnt going to stay quietly standing on the sidelines in the NFL. Hes going to make sure hes got a shot. Hes not your typical quarterback, but Lamar Jackson isnt a typical qb either.

Fromm is scary man. Doen't have a great arm, and Georgia's lack of big plays is a huge red flag.

Ehlinger is an interesting low round developmental pick, but not a top prospect.

Hurts ... gotta see him face a real defense. Going up against the Big 12 is like playing with children. Hard to bet against Lincoln Riley right now though.

Burrow, as long as you think this is not his ceiling/peak, is an interesting guy.

Tua is still the man to me, but these injuries - especially to ankle/leg - are concerning.

I thought Darnold was referring to this:

    https://www.boston.com/sports/new-england-patriots/2019/10/07/patriots-defense-nickname-boogeymen

“We’re the Boogeymen,” Hightower told reporters.

As much as jester disfunction amuses me I think it may be getting overblown. The LBs were kicking Darnolds butt. I think he knew about the nickname.

But damn son, you're miked up...:smackhead:

Following the injuries etc. I've changed my vote to Joe Burrow. His performance this year along with his size etc. make him the QB1 in the 2020 draft. If we can pick any QB high this year, it's Burrow. I still have hesitation as I write this, I think because he's appeared on the scene in this way just this year, and he's a senior, but watching him play vs. anyone else other than Tua, I think I see quality.

There are probably guys out there who can see players who are more flawed now but will turn out to be better eventually, but were it me making the pick for a QB, I think I'd go Burrow now. I like Tua, but if Burrow is there, he's a match of talent and size and Tua's injuries are a risk - although I hope he turns out to be fine and have a great career. If we pick Tua, I'll understand why.

Tua is currently projected the 3rd QB in the draft due to the injury, which creates another factor we didn't have before- value. If we get him later in the first then it's an absolute steal of a prospect. I like Jalen Hurts for the same reason.

Burrow is probably the best QB in college today...I say "probably" because Lawrence might be better (but he's not NFL-eligible this season so not in the conversation). We will see how good Clemson is as the playoffs unfold since they really haven't played anyone worth bragging about, while Burrow has been knocking off top 10 teams all year.

IF we take Tua I'd really prefer to roll with Rosen for a year with an improved team around him and a year of our system under his belt.

That way Tua can heal 100%, have time to learn the offense and develop chemistry, and we have a guy waiting in case Rosen fails or doesnt show any signs of improvement.

Hurts is gonna be taken in the first round... hes gonna blow people away in the combine, pro day and interviews... very smart guy... but i question his arm talent... he can definitely get the ball where it needs to be at practice... but in game situations... that pick six he threw in the red zone against TCU had me scratching my head...

he wont be a day 1 starter..

Me too- Tua would definitely be a project and he'd need some time to fully acclimate to the NFL while recovering. I'd personally be upset if a team tried to start him day 1 and risked ending his career before it ever really began.

The same goes for Hurts (per Vertical's comment)...there's no reason to start him day one.

I don't think there is a single strategy for QB development. It's all about gauging their progress in offseason/preseason/practice and putting them into game situations when you think they can handle it. Some people will likely learn better from playing early and experiencing, while others may learn better by watching passively to start.

Tua though will likely be down to the medicals. If he is declared healthy and knows enough of the playbook and is playing well enough in practice, then start him. If not, hold him back for awhile. Same with anyone else.

I personally have a theory that while it may be counter intuitive to some degree, a mobile QB who isnt as great with reads will benefit more from playing while a more analytical pocket passer will probably benefit from sitting.

I dont consider this a rule by any stretch, but as a rookie QB you are going to be a bit overwhelmed sometimes regardless of how analytical you may be. A mobile QB definitely has more ability to improvise where as a pocket passer needs to have confidence in what he is seeing.

Again...not a rule by any stretch. There are analytical mobile QB and pocket passers who get by not with their mind but their arm. So it really still comes down to the individual player.

I'd like for it to be Rosen behind a decent line to see what he can actually do with the good receiving corps we have when healthy.

If we have to draft, I have to say Burrow. Dude is just tough as nails and accurate as heck.

I believe you will see this in 2020. This scenario was likely a big part of the reason they made that trade.

I'm big on getting our lines fixed this year and we have no excuse to not get this done with all these picks. I could even see them trade down from #4-5 slot if their guy is not available.

At this point in the season, only Burrow has shown enough to be a top 5 pick. IMO, several members of the (preseason) vaunted class of qbs would benefit by staying in school. Herbert certainly didn’t look like a first round pick in his last game, and Hurts is a project - he’s too quick to run. Our top pick would be better spent on Chase Young, if we can stay at #2. Take Tua with the Steelers pick and BPA with Texans pick.

The Herald published a story today that implied Rosen was benched not because of his play on the field, but because they couldn't protect him and he couldn't learn anything while getting killed. I'm hoping that's true and he does get another look next season behind a better line and a semblance of a running game.

The one good thing about being this depleted in talent is that next year almost has to be a big improvement. =)

Do you have a link to that article? I can't find it on the Herald. Regardless, I doubt it's true and that whoever wrote it is just putting out an opinion piece like so many of these articles are nowadays.

What we saw was clear IMO: Fitz > Rosen behind the same OL, and Rosen showed absolutely no improvement in his ability to read the field and get the ball to the WR on time even when he had time to throw. That is, it's pretty clear IMO that it wasn't the OL that caused Rosen to fail. Give him time and he still fails. So I'd be happy if we could trade him right now for a 7th rounder (better than getting nothing!). Keep Fitz as backup and draft our future QB in 2020.

I however do agree with those saying it would be great if we could see Rosen play again THIS year because that's a great way of increasing our chances of picking higher in the draft. But I hope he never plays a down for us again from 2020 onwards.

The story came in on my mobile news feed and I can't find it on desktop- it was mainly a puff piece though without any direct team quotes. It looks like USA Today reprinted it though and they don't have any quotes either- https://dolphinswire.usatoday.com/2019/11/26/dolphins-have-protected-josh-rosen-with-decision-to-bench-him/

As far as your comments- I don't have an opinion on Rosen YET. He had three games of heavy pressure and got destroyed in the third one; I'm not saying he's blameless but it was certainly a team effort. Fitz is clearly better under duress though and it was the right move...yet I do want to see more of Rosen (this year or next). My logic is that there's zero downside...if he stinks, then he stinks and we move on. But if he develops marginally over each of the next few seasons then it was a very smart move to grab him.

Me? I just voted for Love only because Burrow may be gone and we may not know how Tua is going to respond to his latest injury. Fromm may be more polished, but Love is more athletic and because of that has more upside, IMO.

That was me, brotha' and it has nothing to do with what Tbum said. I liked him way before he made those comments and certainly for different reasons then what he said about size. I also don't think he was "pathetic" this week. It is what it is. Different strokes, you know?
However, Lawrence would be the guy if he was in this draft.

UWs head coach just stepped down and will not be back next season. I think this means Eason will be declaring this year. He would be a good 2nd round choice to develop. He needs some more experience and coaching but as a raw QB prospect he's the best. Kids got a gun, he's accurate and smart. UW had a bad year, wasn't on him.

I would be stoked to see us get Hurts in the late first and maybe Eason falls to the third for us.
