Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that Rowe has agreed to a three-year extension with the team. It’s worth $18 million with $7 million in guaranteed money. Rowe moved from cornerback to safety after injuries to Reshad Jones and Bobby McCain left Miami thin at the position. He did a good job on Eagles tight end Zach Ertz in coverage during Sunday’s 37-31 win. Rowe has 59 tackles and seven passes defensed over the entire season. Rowe began his career as an Eagles second-round pick in 2015 and was traded to the Patriots ahead of the 2016 season. He signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins this offseason.
Maybe under previous regimes but seeing how Flores (well via Grier) has gutted this roster, if someone is extended now, I have a feeling they're going to be sticking around for a while
My question is why. I havent seen a worse player since Jamar Fletcher and one decent game at safety doesnt change that.
I like it. We’ve seen TE’s burn this secondary for years and he did a great job on Ertz. Reward guys who want to be here, work hard and are team players.
I guess I am being a bit overly critical. It's not like we shelled out a lot of money. Even if he regresses it's not going to cripple us.
I think this sent a message to the cheatriots Flores left behind too. Come play for me, I'll get you paid.
It does help to have a guy who was in your system before and be able to almost act as a field coach especially the 1st year.
7 million guaranteed over three years is not much. This is mostly a depth signing. Still need to find or draft a CB2.
Given Rowe's athletic limitations, safety certainly seems to fit him much better. Although, I wonder why Belichick never sought to try him out at the position. So far, he's been a natural. Would be curious to see his PFF stats since the position change. It's tough to get excited over a Rowe/McCain-led backfield, but I can appreciate a guy who works hard at his craft. He's carved out a niche in this Miami defense, and he's done it well enough to be asked back for three more years. Good on him, and I hope it works out for both parties.
