Rules: 1) You can play a player at any position. Want to put Sam Madison at QB? Go for it. Dont expect agreement, but go for it. 2) Select no more players than you need to run a scheme and explain what their role is in the offense. I'd say a good limit would be: QB HB FB 2TE O-Line 5 WR 2 DE 2 DT 4 LB 5 CB 2 Safety You can also choose a kicker and punter if you want. I'll be working on mine and post in a bit. For clarity, a player can have played here for only a year to be eligible but consider the players you select to be at the skill level they were in their prime on OUR TEAM.
Marino's my QB. Suh's my fullback. Then give me five of our top all-time linemen and Ricky Williams at RB. At TE, Fasano and one other run-stuffer...I'm at work and can't give too much thought to this. For WR...how about Ronnie Brown, Miller, Drake, Jake Long and Tannehill for good measure. It really doesn't matter because we're not passing the ball EVER. Punter and kicker? What the heck do I need those for...we're playing 4-down football here.
QB - Marino HB - Williams, Csonka (wasn't born when Csonka played but watched enough) FB - Keith Byers / Konrad 2TE - Keith Jackson/ Mad Dog O-Line - Stephenson, Webb, Simms, Long, Keuch, Little 5 WR Clayton, Duper, Gadson, Warfield, OJ McDuffie 2 DE - Taylor, Wake 2 DT Bowens, Gardener 4 LB - Offerdahl, Cox, Thomas, Buoniconti 5 CB Vincent, Madison, Buckley, Surtain 2 Safety Oliver, Jones, Scott Reggie Roby greatest punter in NFL history.. As for kicker I'd go for Stoyo but the bastard missed a few big kicks in the playoffs so I'll leave it blank. Can we trade for Vinatieri?
Actually stashing Tannehill as a 5th WR makes some sense if you wanted to run some crazy plays, double passes, that sort of thing lol
LOL, we're going to just keep pitching to dynamic runners with the toughest, baddest men we've ever had lead blocking. The only "option" is running left, middle or right. =)
Did someone say, Pat White? QB - John Beck, Pat White HB - Sammie Smith, Kalen Ballage FB - Reagan Maui'a, Casey Cramer 2TE -Jed Weaver, Justin Peelle O-Line - John St. Clair, Ritchie Incognito, Seth McKinney, Dallas Thomas, Tyson Clabo 5 WR Lamar Thomas, Yatil Green, Ted Ginn, Greg Camarillo, Derrius Thompson Okay, I can't finish this.
Allow me. DE: Dion Jordan, Eric Kumerow DT: Eddie Blake, Bryan Robinson LB: Lawrence Timmons, Phillip Wheeler, Dannell Ellerbe, Jackie Shipp CB: Jamar Fletcher, Jamar Taylor, Byron Maxwell, Nolan Carroll, Michael Lehan S: Jason Allen, Gibril Wilson
Okay so I've put thought into it. I want to have fun and run a gimmick offense that can still line up in base sets while we shut it down on D. Btw you guys dont have to use my exact roster format it was just an example so you sont go choosing 52 players lol basically choose what you need to do what you want. QB: Marino HB: Ricky Williams FB: Larry Csonka TE: Keith Jackson TE2: Randy McMichael WR1: Paul Warfield WR2: Mark Clayton WR3: Wes Welker WR4: Reggie Bush WR5: Ryan Tannehill (Thanks for the idea Key) LT: Richmond Webb LG: Dwight Stephenson C: Tim Ruddy RG: Larry Little RT: Jake Long Some of these guys are out of position, especially OL but with their talents I believe they could do a fine job. Also I didnt build this to win necessarily, just to run a fun dynamic offense. I'll work on the D later.
For me, I'm going to limit my team to the last 30 years while I've been a diehard fan. So excluding players who played before that point isn't an intended slight, its just that I didn't see them play, or only saw the tail end of their career. QB: Dan Marino, Ryan Tannehill HB: Ricky Williams, Ronnie Brown, Lamar Miller FB/TE: Keith Byars WR: Irving Fryar, Chris Chambers, OJ McDuffie, DeVante Parker TE: Keith Jackson, LT: Richmond Webb LG: Keith Sims C: Tim Ruddy RG: Mark Dixon RT: Jake Long DE: Jason Taylor, Cam Wake DT: Tim Bowens, Paul Soliai, Randy Starks OLB: Derrick Rodgers, Bryan Cox MLB: Zach Thomas, John Offerdahl CB: Sam Madison, Patrick Surtain, Troy Vincent S: Louis Oliver, Brock Marion, Reshad Jones K: Olindo Mare P: Brandon Fields
I'll probably take the same approach for Defense. Mainly because while I believe offensive players from that time would benefit from playing today I'm not sure how defenders I never watched would adjust to not mugging offensive players lol
QB: Dan Marino, Bob Griese, Bernie Kosar RB: Ricky Williams, Mercury Morris, Lamar Miller, Jay Ajayi FB: Larry Czonka, Tony Paige, Keith Byars TE: Keith Jackson, Randy Mcmichael, Jim Jensen, Jim Mandich WR: Mark Clayton, Mark Duper, Paul Warfield, O.J. Mcduffie, Jarvis Landry, Chris Chambers Oline: Richmond Webb, Laremy Tunsil, Dwight Stephenson, Richie Incognito, Jake Long DE: Jason Taylor, Cameron Wake, Trace Armstrong, Marco Coleman, Bill Stanfill DT: Tim Bowens, Ndomukong Suh, Bob Baumhower, Manny Fernandez LB: Zach Thomas, Junior Seau, John Offerdahl, Karlos Dansby, Brian Cox, Joey Porter, A.J. Duhe Safeties: Reshad Jones, Jake Scott, Louis Oliver, Dick Anderson CB: Sam Madison, Troy Vincent, Patrick Surtain, Paul Lankford, Xavien Howard, Brent Grimes PK: Olindo Mare P: Brandon Fields KR: Tedd Ginn PR: Ted Ginn ST: Larry Izzo HC: Don Shula
I see our teams would pretty much mirror one another's. You really, REALLY missed out on watching Csonka. The man was a BEAST! If you got in his way, you were going to have a bad day. He ran right through you! I see you listed only ONE quarterback but I would add one to that list and it may come as a surprise, I would add Don Strock. Marino himself has stated before that he learned A LOT from Strock's tutelage and would often consult with him on the sidelines after series.
QB - Marino HB - Williams FB - Csonka 2TE - Edmunds, Jackson O-Line - Little, Langer, Stephenson, Webb, Kuechenberg 5 WR - Warfield, Clayton, Moore, Landry, Duper 2 DE - Taylor, Stanfill 2 DT - Baumhower, Bowens 4 LB - Thomas, Wake, Offerdahl, Bouniconti 5 CB - Madison, Surtain, Grimes, Howard, Foley 2 Safety - Scott, Anderson
Fun story- It was 1983 and I was 10 years old, listening to the sports talk radio in my room as they interviewed Don Strock. I was a fan by then and thought he did great the year before, so my ten year old mind couldn't understand why some bum named Marino was taking his place. This might have been 1-3 weeks after Marino started mid-season. So I called the radio show and there were no call-screeners back then....I was on live air from the moment they answered. And I asked, "How does it feel to be replaced by some new guy at QB?" And Don was silent for a moment, I don't think anyone expected a kid to ask something like that. But he kept his composure and explained that he was towards the end of his career, he's there for the team, etc. He was a better person than I was that day, but again....I was 10 years old using a phone unsupervised. I didn't like his answer though so I asked him, "Well, do you think he's better than you?" The announcers laughed and there was another long pause. And I honestly can't remember his answer thirty-something years later, but it was gracious, composed and complimentary to Marino. Then he thanks me for being a fan and asked me off-air for my address so he could send me something...it was a signed photo of him and Marino talking in practice. It's not much of a "sports memory" but I always smile when I think about it. If I would have asked Marino the same thing towards the end of his career (which is when I saw him the most as a late teen/early 20's), he would have cussed me out something fierce...even if it was on-air. So I always think fondly of Don Strock getting grilled by a little kid on the radio. =)
Dude you need to be a journalist. It may not have been professional but you were asking the questions we all wonder about but know arent right to ask lol
