    I totally get it.

Even I prefer that sometimes, I still play newer games for that reason. Stories and character/world building are awesome immersive experiences.

I love Monster Hunter for example, it's tough but not insane and the co-OP online is super fun. That is coming from someone who usually doesn't even play online, I'm a single player guy. It's not story driven at all really, but it's still a great game.

I also really like the "Tales Of" series of games. They are all for the most part stand alone titles but usually have excellent world building. Though there are a few duds.

Add on: Also, I'm not sure what systems you have, but if you have a PS4 and ever do get the urge to play something online but dont want the randomness of a stranger judging or acting like an idiot (my #1 peeve in online gaming, elitism or ruining others experience) feel free to shoot me your psn name either here or in PM.

I actually just bought a PS+ account two weeks ago for the first time. Before that, I hadn't played online since the Spring of 2005, due to living where I couldn't get broadband from that point until the Summer of 2018, and then realizing that you now had to pay to game online.

At the moment, my only games that I own with an online component are Madden 19, The Show 18, and Everybody's Golf, I think. I'm considering getting into a MMO, and looking at Black Desert and Final Fantasy 14.

My username is just my real name: Bengayda

Original, right? I set it up back in 2003 when I was an early adopter getting online with the PS2 and that seemed normal at the time. Anyone who'd like to shoot me a friend request is welcome

After spending the afternoon doing more research (I already had looked into it multiple times before), I found a good deal on the Elder Scrolls Online Gold Edition, and ordered it. So I'll be jumping into that in the new year.

I'll add you next time I pop on. If you do get into an MMO definitely tell us which one, I've been thinking about getting into something but cant really decide what either haha.

I picked up NFL2K2 on Dreamcast for like $4.

The 2K series was always my favorite and I'm not a huge fan of the new Madden games, to me the sweet spot was Madden 02-06 as far as playability and controls that I liked.

Anyway I'm hoping the gameplay holds up and is fun as I remember, if it still feels fun to play I might try and edit the rosters to reflect this season for added realism and start a franchise lol

The only game from that series that I ever played was 2K5, because it only cost $20 and came out earlier in the summer than Madden. But I really didn't like the graphics or gameplay, and traded it in a few weeks later for Madden instead.

The non-Madden title that I really enjoyed was NFL Gameday, which was a Sony exclusive. I played that one for three or four years in the late 90s and early 2000s. On the PS1, I felt that it had better graphics and gameplay than Madden did, but most importantly for me, the franchise mode was a lot deeper, with a full seven round draft. When Madden upped their game with the release of the PS2, I switched back over to EA.

I played them all. IMO, the 2K series was better at offensive linemen blocking and the running game. Also, the commentary was amazing at the time. Instead of hearing the same few lines over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, it was closet to hearing a real live commentary.

I felt that every other year 2k was better than Madden.

It really depends on what's important to you as an individual. For me, its NFL GM simulator first, feel/player control second, graphics third. Of course sadly today we have a monopoly between the NFL and EA, and the NFLPA has openly said that they don't give a (care) about what fans think, or if the game isn't good enough, because the players are getting paid. The league itself generally stays silent other than something along the lines of that they're happy with the partnership, blah blah blah.

I am still disappointed in the EA monopoly. IMO, the two companies did a great job of trying to one up themselves and that was a great time.

The monopoly has gotten me to a point where I would be a person who would line up at midnight to get Madden to not even buying it. The new versions just do not improve the game play, just the monetization.

Madden was always ahead on the NFL GM aspect of football. However for look and feel it would really bounce from year to year. I don't remember the year but 2k3 I think was revolutionary when it came to running the football. It was amazing. Offensive linemen stop looking like big blocks on roller skates and actually blocked, and you had to pick holes. Players didn't warp to make tackles, unlike Madden. 2k was always ahead of Madden when it came to actually running the ball. Made linemen stats feel like they actually mattered.

At the time I always bought both and just played the one that was better more. It did feel like every year it would switch for me.

Yeah, the monopoly has really contributed to ruining the product. (now along with the total focus on online play and microtransactions).

On the PS2, I would wait for hours to buy it at midnight at Gamestop.

On the PS3 (while I still had hope it would get better from the disasters of 2007-08), I would drive to the store before it opened on my next day off to buy it.

Now on the PS4, I've come to buying it every other year, and then only when it goes on sale for $20 after the new year.

I think I also bought a Xbox One version two years ago. Played one game and thought. "This game sucks" and never picked it up again.

To me, it doesn't suck. I do enjoy it. But its been stuck in neutral for about ten years. Almost zero progress from year to year, and its STILL not back to where it was in 2006 as far as the GM/Owner aspects. Frustratingly, the people who make the game allegedly want to make it a lot better, but the head honchos at EA won't let them.

As someone who has been in the industry, the people making the games are there with a passion. Coding for any other job both pays more money AND is generally a much better more stable environment. I was on MS Flight for a while, those people were obsessed about planes. They talked about planes during every lunch.

EA is just a terrible company. They want to squeeze every last dollar rather than just make a great game that will make a lot of money.

To be fair if 2K was still making NFL games I'm not sure they would be any better than Madden, judging by where they went with the NBA2K series and microtransactions it could be worse even.

Don't they have the monopoly on the NBA like EA does with Madden though? I think that any company is going to get lazy and greedy when that happens.

I'm not sure what their exact deal is, but NBA Live still exists as far as I know (or did until very very recently if it doesnt) so I'm not sure it's all encompassing like the NFL license.

Hey NBA Jam is like the best basketball game ever haha.

I dont play them as much as other kinds of games, I skipped this years 2k after being super let down by recent offerings.

You cant even train your player up anymore without making tons of purchases and the microtransactions even slipped into single player modes like Franchise.

I just can't get into the isometric view for RPGs. Its fine for games like Civ or Sim City, but otherwise it feels to impersonal to me.

Well the Miami Dolphins are 3-0 and thebdefendebis dominating the league allowing 6 points across 3 games. The offense has been inconsistent but strong.

    7-6 over the Titans
    42-0 over the Bill's
    23-0 over the Raiders

First thing I did was cut Jay Fiedler lol I signed Troy Aikman who is apparantly a FA in this game for some reason, though only a 75 overall hes still not Fiedler....

    Now we are 4-1

I turned the difficulty up and lost a game 9-7 to New England BOO.

I was driving for a go ahead FG near midfield with under a minute left and tried to hit McDuffie on a deep post route but it went just beyond his arms and ended up getting by picked by the corner who was playing a really deep zone.

Back in October, Target allowed me to preorder Biomutant as part of their B2G1 Free sale, then claiming that it would be released on January 7th. But, here we are days away from that date, and THQ Nordic hasn't put out any new information about the game, and everyone else has the release date as TBA.....

Looks like someone at Target screwed up. Now I just have to hope that I eventually do still get it when its released.

That's weird, usually the dates come from the manufacturer/publisher/someone outside the store itself.

Did the pre-order have special content or just the game? Hopefully it works out.

Just the game. I really only jumped at the offer because of the ability to preorder. As it is, I guess I'll just get it when I get it. It was essentially free. :confused2:

The funny thing is that my order in the Target app still says it's delivery window is tomorrow. Which seems highly unlikely, since while the page for the collector's ed you listed says April 15, the page for the regular one now says "Dec 31" which is usually code for we don't know.

I placed the order back in October, and only did so because they had the release date for this week. My bad trusting that it was accurate. But like I said, since it was the add on for the B2G1 free sale, I can't gain anything by cancelling my order. I just have to wait and I'll get it when I get it I guess. The real problem would come if the game were cancelled, at which point I imagine I'd have a fight on my hands to get something else as a replacement.

For now, I have other games in my que to play instead. I just started the final DLC for Assassins Creed Odyssey this morning. Once I finish that and clear the 100 gigs on my PS4, I'll install The Elder Scrolls Online and get into that.

This is really cool. Sony lets you log into the Playstation website and see how much you played in 2019 and which games. My top three were:

    Assassins Creed Odyssey: 273 hours
    Madden 19: 195 hours
MLB The Show 18: 65 Hours

My top genre was RPG, naturally, with 422 hours and 101 trophies.

In total, I played 1003 hours over 277 different days, and played the most on Sunday Afternoons, which surprised me.

I was finally able to beat Space Harrier on Sega Master System this weekend. That game is ridiculously hard. Damn arcade ports, super fun though.

Now playing Mega Man X on SNES. It actually holds up super well gameplay wise. I've always been a fan of the Mega Man series.

I finished my NG+ second playthrough of AC Oddessy and man, that is certainly the most time that I have ever put into the story of a game. All told, I'm sure that I put more time into one of my Skyrim playthroughs, but that involves lots of leveling up, crafting, and all around "wasting time" to get better at things. With Oddessy, its just playing the game. It's freaking huge!

In the end, after all the DLC, its both satisfying and leaves you hanging. Clearly setting themselves up for the next game, which is great. I don't like the way that it just ends without telling you that it does though. I had to get online and look to see if I was missing something.

I'm now really digging into Jedi: Fallen Order, after putting it down to finish AC:Odyssey. It really is an excellent game, that looks and feels and acts like Star Wars. I'm only fractionally into it, but its been a delight so far, and I'm really hoping that they're allowed to make more games like it in the future. Its an excellent way to expand the Star Wars universe.

I dislike the climbing. Well that's not right. I dislike that I jump on a wall, grab on, but then have to press a button to be allowed to climb. Heaven forbid I try and just move in this new plane without doing so or else I will inexplicably let go and plummet to my death (typically). :/

The other thing that frustrates me is how freaking long you can be stuck in a level/area. Once you're in, you're sometimes in it for the long haul. I'd really like to be able to find more checkpoints and skip and and out like other similar games do.
