Am I the one that's started or been involved in dozens of heated arguments in this thread? You're trying to make this about me when I was merely writing what others were trying to express.

    Serious question to the board.

If the one in a million bazillion chance happens and Ryan is welcomed back to Miami would you want him back on the team under Flores?

I know he'll sign a great contract in Ten, just wondering how the board feels.

I think the current OC and Flores could probably improve his output but because of our OL and RB situation I wouldn't take the chance even if Flores signs a couple lineman and drafts a couple..

I would, if our QB and RB situation improved to a point that they're at least serviceable. Granted, I'd still draft a QB for the future since he's 31.

I wouldn't be opposed given that he is seemingly healthy again.. I guess last years shoulder injury, dysfunction with Gase and incompetence from top to bottom really impacted his perceived value.. I always believed that Ryan was motivated and played better when he was being questioned and let up once things settled in but I don't see that this year. He's been hyped up to the moon and is still performing.

I just don't trust Grier to fix the OL as he hasn't been able to for years.

Personally, I'd have to see evidence of similar conditions in Miami as in Tennessee before I'd make that move. And Flores for me is still an unknown as HC so I wouldn't just trust him to raise Tannehill's play beyond what it was in Miami.

I'm the opposite. I trust Flores 100% to develop, scheme and coach. But I don't trust Grier to fix the OL/RB positions to mask Ryan's pocket deficiencies.

That fact that Flores has been able to have a somewhat decent secondary with street talent and an offense that is effective moving the ball with no running game gives me hope that he will be the coach we've been waiting for once he actually has talent on the roster.

I also must acknowledge that Ryan Tannehill on the current iteration of this team probably comes close matching the all time NFL sack record.. You can love or hate Ryan Fitzpatrick but what he's done outside the pocket and to avoid pressure this year has been near miraculous.

I would be opposed for non-football reasons.

The baggage of his previous experience in Miami would overshadow everything, create mountains out of molehills. His previous detractors would try to make every hiccup on the road as proof that he has regressed and that 2019 was a fluke. His supporters would explain away every mis-step as something out of his control. Not talking about these boards, but the media. It would create a perfect excrement storm and media circus that would serve to distract the team.

If we were playing Madden and non-football issues can be waved away then I’d do it in a heartbeat. Because in today’s NFL you can expect another 6-7 years of quality football from a QB his age.

I think I'd say no for two reasons.

1st, I'm not sure how much confidence he can have in the team when they didn't even try to negotiate with him. They kept the guy in the dark for almost three months....and that's just a jerk move by Grier.

2nd, we have the worst line by far in the league and no running back...which are two things that has really benefited Tannehill this season. We can assume Grier will wave a magic wand and magically have a picture perfect draft, but it's likely that won't happen 100% across the board and we will still have some glaring holes in protection. I'd personally rather see him in Tennessee where he's respected and appreciated by the franchise.

Now, if Tennessee didn't re-sign him and he was going to end up in Cleveland or something like that...my perspective would change. But under the current circumstances I'd rather see him thrive in Tennessee than abused in Miami.

Edit- I have a 3rd point as well. The news media is saying Rosen is a bust and Flores has already seen everything he needs to see. If he has any clue how to evaluate quarterbacks, why didn't he see the potential in Tannehill? That kind of worries me on both QB's account.

We could have drafted Lamar Jackson and probably would have ruined his career by now. This team doesn't have a real identity that's what makes it tough to believe they'll pick the right QB next year.

I’d want them to fix the tackle situation at least if they were to bring back tannehill.

but if I’m tannehill I tell miamis front office to kick rocks. And frankly I don’t need any more arguments about the player with people who can’t even tell me what a progression looks like.

If you were a GM wanting to keep your job and doling out an owner's money for a player like Tannehill, you'd be a fool not to use that piece of information.

Note that on the following page there is a similar statistical analysis in terms of his market value:

Is Grier a part of that world? Because he didn't even glance at Tannehill before sending him packing. I don't care who you are or what's on your resume- actually paying another team to take a top-2 quarterback off your hands makes you look like a world-class idiot. Maybe he forgot to check the Z-score....

I know I said I was done with this thread, but most of us, even those of us who supported Tannehill realized it was best for both parties to move on.

Let's not crucify Grier based on something mostly everyone agreed was the intelligent move for both parties involved.

To be fair, Grier didn't just trade Tannehill...he traded away almost 100% of our talent to produce this season. I don't know how anyone can't be critical of him until he produces a stellar draft, a complete roster and a "perennial playoff team" like he promised our owner. If he does that then great, no harm no foul. But until then, I will continue to judge him harshly because he gambled the next decade of our franchise on outsmarting 31 other teams in two drafts.

There's a phrase in marketing/sales- always under-promise and over-deliver. Grier did the exact opposite of that and that's the exact standard he needs to be held to...perennial playoff contender! Gase was roughly .500 after three seasons and he was laughed out of town, so I'm not gong to be impressed until that mark is drastically exceeded. Because if we did keep Gase, then we still have Tannehill, Tunsil, James, Stills, Wake, Drake, Minkah, etc. That also means no 2nd round pick wasted on Rosen and maybe one less hole to fill next season.

In other words, we'd be around 10 less pieces away from that perennial playoff contender. It's something to keep in mind in the seasons ahead. This isn't about Gase or Tannehill though- it's about keeping your promises and living up to your own hype. And part of that is delivering a QB better than Tannehill. So we'll see how it unfolds...

Seeing how Flores did for the year has given me a little more hope. But I'm with you, I don't really want Grier in control of our draft, but since he is, he better deliver.

Well seeing how nearly 100% of our starting talent was traded away for the monstrous number of draft picks we're going to receive, one would have to assume this was done to draft the players and build the team that Flores wants. I give Flores an alibi this season. I'll even give him an alibi next season but come 2021, if the Dolphins aren't a POWERHOUSE in the NFL that everyone fears playing, then it's fair to say the onus all falls on Flores.

Anyway, I'm really happy for him. Putting everything else aside, I bet we all are. He always seemed like a good guy, I don't remember him ever having a bad word to say about anyone, even when he was getting beaten like a drum in the backfield. I was struck by the video someone put up of him on this thread making just a perfect tackle to save a TD on an interception, and I remember him watching him score a TD running on just pure second effort. That's Tannehill for me.

I'll be honest, I thought he was a decent quarterback, no more, while he was here. And maybe that's all he is. But there's no one I'd be happier to be wrong about.

There was that one time he had some crappy comments for that practice squad CB that kept picking him off during installs. Kinda lame, but that's all I ever heard about.

And if you watch closely, he's playing with more fire in Tennessee. Not sure if he didn't feel he was able to bring that out in Miami, or just didn't have it, but he's getting it now. He would come across as more of a "golly gee that was fun!" kinda, before. Seems like his leadership is maturing.

Here's something interesting if I'm seeing this correctly.

One Texans win gives them the division. For the Titans to win the WC one of two things must happen: 1) They beat the Texans AND Pitt loses one game, or 2) both Pitt and Titans lose out (strength of victory advantage for Titans).

What that means is that IF the Texans win on Saturday against the Bucs, the Saints game is mathematically meaningless for the Titans playoff chances and the Titans could rest Henry, Tannehill and others against the Saints if they wanted to.

This is not true. There can still be a three way tie between Tenn, Indy, and Pitt. In that scenario, Indy eliminates Tenn and Pitt eliminates Indy. If Tenn beats NO, they eliminate that possibility.

True, but let's ne honest the gutting of our roster is a result of Flores more than Grier...otherwise Grier could very well have gutted us like this during Gase's tenure.

What proof do you have of that? The reports were that Gase was let go because "he wanted to win now.". That was prior to the Flores hiring. It seems to me that the decision was made to gut the roster, Gase seemingly was not on board, so he was let go and Flores, assumably ok with the gutting, was brought on board.

It was more on the organization brain-trust...but the owner's not gonna get fired. Grier's wagon is hitched to Flores at this point, and that could be a good thing for Grier, or bad for both...nothing personal against Grier, but if they flop this thing and suck in 2021, there's not much of a case to keep either, IMO. FWIW I don't believe that will happen, just saying. I have faith in Flores, but you never know.

I wont hold anything against Grier he didnt do with complete control of the result.

Even as co-GM what you are doing is working with another person, meaning you are going to have to sacrifice what you want sometimes which muddies our ability to really look at his track record for success or faiure.

My approach with Grier has been wait and see how this turns out.

If we can build a decent OL and running game I would gladly welcome him back. He’s always been just fine when he has that.

As we are currently structured? He is likely a worse option than even Fitz. Imagine Fitz if he didn’t make all those improv plays with his legs. He would struggle badly, and so would Ryan.

What Tannehill needs in my opinion -- and largely agreeing with you -- is 1) a strong running game that can be the focus of the offense and the opposing team's defensive focus, 2) a strong defense that can keep games close so that situations in which the opposing team knows Tannehill has to pass are kept to a minimum, and 3) a very strong offensive line. Those three things together compensate for the flaw of his that in itself has the potential to make a team no better than mediocre, which is his inability to divide his attention between going through his progressions downfield and sensing and evading the pass rush.

Unfortunately what that means, however, is that he needs virtually an entire rest of a team (running game, defense, offensive line) to function a certain way so that he can perform at the level of one of the best QBs in the game. And as I've said before in this thread, those kinds of surroundings aren't likely to be sustainable or replicable. Hell, as soon as you pay him the going rate for even just an average quarterback, assembling and sustaining those kinds of surroundings becomes very difficult under the salary cap.

What Tannehill needs is the same thing every other successful NFL team needs. You’re making it sound as if Tannehill is a special needs kid.

Every other team who is winning has all of the things you’re saying Tannehill needs.
