No-one here is comparing him to Flores.

Honestly I think hes probably a better X&O coach than Flores but lacks pretty much all the other traits that make a HC successful.

I actually think the limited success he had here despite his awful character show hes not a bad coach as far as game planning goes. He obviously has something that makes him not 0-16 every year.

I'm just saying, my view of Gase probably won't change. Unless he all of a sudden turns into Billy boy, I'll still think he was a bad coach.

I don't think he was a "good" coach personally. I just think people are a bit overly critical compared to our past coaches due to how recent he is.

I dont expect people to ever think hes great. He isnt. Not by a long shot.

Maybe if he like...went into the mountains and found himself lol

I do believe Gase was holding back the talent and I have a lot more faith in Grier than I do Gase.

When Sparano was fired I thought he got a bum rap. He never had the offensive firepower provided to him as Gase did. Also Gase is the reason we had a terrible season with Cutler.

The offensive line is much more terrible this year than under Gase and yet the offense this year, since week 5 has been better than anything Gase has ever put on the field.

Bottom line with Parker, in my opinion is quite simple. He is being used within his specific skills set. Parker is a tall receiver and has those long arms. He’s running routes that takes advantage of his physical gifts and the Dolphins are taking advantage of the mismatches that favor him.

Gase’s offense, although not “bad” in concept took too long for plays to develop and really couldn’t unfold due to the pressure Tannehill was constantly under. Flores changed the overall offensive scheme that alleviated this problem and Parker’s been the benefactor of it.

Now if we can get a good SOLID line, an effective running game and iron out the QB future in Miami, the Dolphins are going to be set offensively for quite some time

I wouldnt say this offense is better than anything Gase put on the field but to each his own.

If the talent was that great however, it makes 0 sense for Grier to jettison it to restart.

I dont see a scenario where its logical to say Gase had all the weapons AND Grier is doing an awesome job by getting rid of said weapons.

We only got rid of Drake and the offensive linemen. The majority of offensive weapons are still there.

Since week five Dolphins have done better than any Gase offense at getting first downs and extending plays. That is with zero running game, which is pretty on par with a Gase ran offense.

Who said Grier is doing an awesome job? I just said I have more faith in Grier than I do Gase. Gase is a bad head coach. Or at least he was at this time at the Dolphins. UP there with Philbin as the worst during my lifetime.

I don't think your opinion is unfair even if I dont necessarily agree 100%

Though we also lost Stills and Tannehill, dont forget them. That is a lot of talent to lose, especially if you believe in Tannehill now.

I actually think Saif is doing an amateurish job. Basically, his assertion is that all of Parker's problems were because of someone else. I remember bad Parker quite clearly.

You can make the claim that Fitz has made him better because he will throw him 50-50 balls that RT + Cutler did not. In absolute fairness, he wasn't deserving of getting those 50-50 balls. He wasn't just bad at getting position and coming down with balls, he was AWFUL. It felt like at his lowest points (Cutler season), it was 50-50 that defenders would come down with the ball. Realistically, the last time he played with Tannehill was the year we made the playoffs. Tannehill missed the entire season after that, and the following year, Gase rarely played him out of some sort of weird spite (I do think Gase deserves a decent chunk of blame.)

I would say that his ability to not only fight for the ball, but to come down with it has significantly improved. I really think that the pendulum has swung from AWFUL to FANTASTIC. I feel like 50-50 balls have turned into 70-30. He is now coming down with balls that I would not reasonably expect most WRs to come down with.

Another thing that I would say that he has really improved on is his body control. A lot of people have mentioned that he has been taking better care of his body. I think you are seeing the dividends play out where he is able to catch the ball when his body is in an "unnatural" or "imperfect" position. This harkens back to his Louisville days. I remember seeing him do this with regularity, but once he got into the pros, it felt like you would see this more in flashes.

I really think that Saif's thesis is essentially, "Parker was good all along" is lazy journalism. Parker has really improved his game.

    On topic of Parker.

I will be the first person to admit I understand offense better than defense. I often dont even try to project a defender to the next level nor do I entirely understand all techniques that make them great. I always played QB and WR on teams growing up and studied offensive players of all positions a lot harder.

I'm not saying I'm any sort of offensive guru, I'm not, but I've always been a huge fan of what Parker potentially brought to the table.

WR is maybe the only position in football I will take the stereotype of an ideal player (size, speed, arm length, jump height) seriously.

There are things that you just cant make up for at the position even with great skills. Not to say small WR dont have roles or cant be successful but I'm talking about a #1 guy here.

If Randy Moss was 5'11 I really doubt he'd be the player he was even with all his physical traits.

It's the only position (except secondary) that you have the opportunity to use your size, speed and leaping ability to snag a ball 50 yards down the field you have no business catching. If you can run like a corner and are 5 inches taller you've pretty much already won.

Anyway where I'm going with this is I've always thought Parker had the potential to be a Moss-Lite. He doesnt quite have the same insane physical prowess, but he can do the same type of things to a defense and I really want to see him paired with a great QB and better all around offense, because I think we are only seeing the floor of what Parker can do and not the ceiling.

I will admit the last few years made me question my analysis going into this season and I was a bit down on him. That said he's showing me why I loved him in the first place.

On Parker there are 2 things I see.
    1) The coaches are calling/designing plays that take advantage of his skillset. Gase’s offense called for receivers to be interchangeable and there were many complaints on the forums that Gase wasn’t taking advantage of Parker’s specific abilities in regards to height/leaping ability.

    2) He is playing tougher and seems more focussed. I haven’t run the numbers but his contested catch rate seems much higher than in the past, and his drops seem down.

Parker not only went over 1200 yards, he had 1000 over just the final 12 games! I'll do a deep dive Tues.

Parker is playing with confidence and is feeding off all the accolades. Look for this to continue. He's also matured. He came in to the league a bit distracted , posting an endless stream of social media garbage (like most kids his age). I think his maturity level increasing has also helped.

Great turnaround story and for once it happens while the player is still in Miami. Would love to see him play his entire career here- His loyalty through the rebuild and desire to be here makes him a Dolphin lifer in my mind.

I personally loved Sparano, but I hated his philosophy of taking the lead by three and then playing prevent football the rest of the game...even though there's 12 minutes left in the first quarter!

I liked Gase too though and I still feel like bad luck crippled his three seasons (the hurricane/all the travel, then the ton of key injuries including Tannehill). I agree that he was an arrogant jerk and he became too predictable at times (like running on 3rd and long because it's the safest statistical play). But I also feel like he got a bad rap from the fans for things that were outside his control (AKA, hurricanes, injuries, an up and coming GM named Grier who stabbed him in the back).

If I had to re-hire one of the head coaches since Shula, I'd probably pick Dan Campbell just because he was a former player that walked the walk on and off the field. With the right assistants I think he could have had a good bit of success in the top coaching spot.

I have to ask, since you acknowledge the problem with Sparano that was the killer and never went away, why did you love him? I mean, he was an ok, mediocre NFL head coach. The best Miami had between 2005-2018 probably. But I never really found much to love. If anything, he kept taking his team out of a position to either win more easily, or even win outright, over and over. And during his last three years, the only time he was ever more than 1 game over .500 during a season was when they started 2-0 in 2010, and then promptly fell to 2-2.

I loved his passion for the game, plus the way he got his team fired up and ready to run thru walls for the guy. Sparano was just a guy's guy that everyone really liked....so maybe I should have said that I liked him as a person, but didn't love some of his philosophies as the head coach. He did have one of the better Dolphins teams of this era talent-wise, but I don't think he maximized his chances of success.
