The Dolphins have reached into the high school ranks for their latest hire, but coach Brian Flores isn’t straying far from his Patriots roots in doing so. According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are hiring Curt Kuntz as a defensive backs coach.

Kuntz has no NFL experience, and has spent the last seven years at Struthers High School in Ohio. That might not seem like a link to an NFL future, but that school occupies a special place. It’s the alma mater of Steve Belichick, the father of Patriots coach Bill Belichick. The school recently built a new athletics facility, called the Steve Belichick Complex, and Bill Belichick turned up on the Patriots’ team website wearing Struthers gear.

The Dolphins fired safeties coach Tony Oden after the season, and Kuntz is expected to work with Josh Boyer, Miami’s cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator.

I think it shows how broad Brian Flores looks into football. We will see how this goes, in the end this is Flores’ defense and his vision.

Good coaches have to come from somewhere. It is an important position but it's not like we hired him to be the Head Coach.

I think it's incredibly odd but I dont think its necessarily a bad thing or good thing inherently.

I'll judge the guy on his own merit.

It's a better hire than Chan Gailey.

The Giants are pathetic... both NY teams are..

So far the only team that has made a decent head coach hire, at least in my opinion, has been the Redskins... the Cowboys hired a guy who was desperate for any team (or any sucker) to give him a job..

the Giants.. i dont know what the hell they were thinking..

I dont get why Rhule became a hot coaching candidate..

If the Chiefs win the super bowl there is going to be a lot of stupid teams that didnt hire Bieniemy.

i dont think Urban Meyer wants an NFL job, he is eyeing USC in 2021. He is a great analyst for Fox.. really one of the best football minds in the country..

I get Rhule - as a tactician I don't know how good he is, but the dude is a very good leader and inspirational, he get's the most out of his guys. That money and time commitment was pretty ballsy though, wow. Browns reportedly are hot for McDaniels.

This isn't as rare as some people think. Andy Reid, for example, constantly looks at high schools to find new talent. The Falcons hired a coach right out of High School to be their defensive lines coach prior to this last season.

Could you imagine this guy telling his school that he has an interview with the Miami Dolphins. I guarantee that even his students thought he was BSing them?

On the serious, I am gonna go out on a limb and say that I am NOT trusting the process here.

I've gone on record myself as saying I'm not convinced some of our decisions have been good ones.

That said, we are in the back seat just letting Grier and Flores drive the car. I dont like some of the moves, but I want to be open minded and see what the future brings while voicing some concerns along the way.

Which part of the process are you not trusting?

Bienemy was my favorite candidate for us last year. I think he is going to make a great head coach and it's surprising that no one has grabbed him this offseason. Cleveland is all that is left and I don't even know if he has interviewed. With anyone.

There are many very good and highly capable HS coaches out there. It's just that the majority thoroughly enjoy mentoring young kids, preparing them for the world ahead, and most of all, a true off season to be had with their families. Kudos to Flores in his due diligence should this hire come to fruition.

The part where we assume that we are hiring the best people for the job.

Ok, I'm going to try and put some real world perspective on this hire, so bear with me.

How many of us, in the search for a career came across a job that we just knew it was something we really wanted to do and knew if given the opportunity, we could do it? I come across them often...jobs I know I have a certain level of experience but don't have this degree or that degree. If only I had that opportunity...

This could really be no different than that! Who in the world is Curt Kuntz? I have no clue; no idea. but for all we know, this is a guy who lives, breathes and sleeps football. Someone who loves teaching his kids the position and beams in the excitement in his kids' eyes when they actually make a play based on what he's been taught...and seeing the confidence in that kid's eyes. I don't know. None of us know.

Which one of us knew that a Super Bowl MVP quarterback and champion would be found stocking shelves at a grocery store with only arena league experience?

With the constant recycling of coaches from one team to another, it's kind of refreshing to see some outside the box thinking. It's not like it can get any worse.

I was wrong. I thought there'd be a lot of freaking out over this. I misjudged the board and was wrong.

    Good job board!:hi5:
