His biggest issue was a refusal to adapt and change his offense toward modern trends and unleash Rogers, whom he ended up feuding with at the end. The failure of the backups when Rogers was hurt cast a lot of doubt on whether McCarthy was really the brilliant QB guru he was thought of or just the beneficiary of a generational talent whom he failed to utilize properly.

That said, he apparently spent the year off looking at and analyzing trends and analytics. If he is willing to truly revamp his approach, he might have success, but if he falls back into "I am a brilliant offensive mind and have no need to change myself" mode then he will be a bad hire.

His defensive hirings will also be important, as will the GM defensive selections, that side of the ball was an achilles heel on the McCarthy Packer teams.

Another huge fail by Jones. McCarthy is not now nor has he ever been a good pro head coach.

The Cowboys "hierarchy" should have stuck to their guns and hired Urban Meyer. Would it have been a good hire? There is no way to tell but it would have been a hell of an exciting hire. Mike McCarthy is just a down right lazy hire to me it will it work probably only because that Dallas team is pretty good I honestly thought they should of low key had conversations with Ron Rivera ASAP before letting Washing hire him I thought that would have been a great hire.

But he will be a good "yes man" and that's what Jerry cares about more than anything.

The difference between Mike McCarthy and Jeff Fisher on records?

    Aaron Rodgers.

I know and have hung out with Meyer on multiple occasions. He would not fit in well with NFL. Think Spurrier, but without the ability to exploit the NFL system like he was able to do in the NCAA.

College and NFL are just such different games. That said, while fully accept that Meyer is probably a dick, most coaches at both levels seem like *****.
