Patrick Graham was permitted by Flores to interview with Joe Judge and the New York Giants. He has been poached and taking over for him will be Josh Boyer, who was the defensive pass game coordinator this past season. Not that I'm heartbroken. I know our roster was stripped of any and all talent but we were virtually dead last in every statistical category defensively. What truly puzzles me about this hire is why in the world, if this is your first stint as head coach, trying to turn an organization around hire a DC that oversaw one of the worst defenses in the NFL when you could try and get Wade Phillips who was just released by the Rams?
Wade will turn 73 years old this summer. I really doubt that he's itching to join the start of a long rebuilding project. I do agree that I would have greatly preferred hiring an experienced coordinator though.
Yea, I know he's up there in years, but hell, Dick Lebeau coached until he was almost 80. I just wish WE would have landed Phillips.
Boyer is the hire for the position, but i'm almost certain that Brian Flores will in fact be the defensive coordinator of this team. I don't think it's really too much to worry about. This will be a Brian Flores led defense.
