At this point I'd rather the media guys just kept schtum and leave it until it's clear what's happening.
But all the people on the Internets with "sources" told us they fired Chad O’ Shea to keep Jerry Schuplinski.............
This is becoming a little troubling for me.. i dont pretend to know how significant their roles were, but this is too much turnover after one season which IMO was a successful rebuilding season.
Disappointing. Although, to be fair, the Schuplinski hire wasn't a lateral move for NYG -- he's going from assistant QB coach to head QB coach, which means Flores couldn't deny Judge's interview request. On the other hand, Patrick Graham was a lateral move, and I don't feel bad about that loss at all. If it were up to me, I'd have dropped Graham quicker than O'Shea. I do wonder what that means for Taco Charlton, who was apparently Graham's guy. Potential trade bait if Flores isn't high on him.
From my understanding is that he could block it. That all assistant coaches are equal in the eyes of the NFL. Unless his contract was only for one year.
One step closer to Galant becoming the new OC. Or pull a fan from the crowd before each home game? Stability is for knee braces.
Well, a Bill Lazor reunion is off the market, hired as OC for the Bears. Wonder if Flores has plans or if he is going to be scrambling a bit here with all the turnover. It makes me feel a little weird to see so much, but ultimately, it's a 5-11 team, I doubt we just got rid of the second coming of Wade Phillips or whomever here, y'know?
Well, to be honest, if we do that, at least there might be a chance of landing Trevor Lawrence in 2021...
Yikes. His only decent season as an OC ('14) was when he ripped off an incomplete playbook from Kelly featuring his college spread concepts. The initial success was due mainly to the NFL's defensive adjustment period to the scheme. The season after ('15) DC's had it figured out to a "T". Kelly would soon be fired and DC's could manipulate the offensive scheme however they deemed by showing certain presnap looks to force checks that they knew were coming due to obvious tendencies from tape study. Also noteworthy is how much Lazor hates to run the ball with any consistency. Some of these recent NFL hires are absolutely mind-boggling.
Lazor’s tendencies, in particular giving up the run as soon as he was behind on the scoreboard, turned him from a potentially productive playcaller into an opportunity foe defenses. His productivity was the same in ‘14 and ‘15, what changed was the D got exposed by Rex Ryan as being incapable of stopping the run, which led to other teams being able to build early leads. The offense had similar efficiency when tied or ahead in ‘14 and ‘15. The deficiency in Playcalling when behind worsened in ‘15 when even blind Freddie could see that Ryan Tannehill was not allowed to audible.
Hey, I'm stable! I'd bring a new level of consistence to the franchise...it would just be the wrong level. I mean, I know QB's would want to play for me, but I'm not sure Lawrence would want to hold out on teams just to come join us at Miami. Appreciate the thought though.
So does anyone agree with me that there are reasons to be wary about the moves we have made yet? I'm not asking if you agree. I'm asking if anyone is starting to see the validity in wondering despite our record, which to me wasnt surprising at all.
I'm going to let things play out and see how things go before I start worrying about it. We have a long, long way to go in turning this franchise around. First things first. Grier has to do an amazing job with the draft and FA. Flores has to assemble quality coaches. Sometimes on paper, something looks good or bad, but it then turns out to be the opposite. When it was rumored we were bringing in Gailey. I had concerns and I probably over-reacted. If it is because of him that we are losing quality coaches then that should be a concern, but since we won't know that is the case until our guys put on the pads, I am going to let it ride for now. We only have up to go as a franchise. I am going to try and enjoy the ride if I can.
Gotta say the coaching turnover is really worrying me. I thought the staff had done an admirable job with what they had to work with.
Well I mostly agree with that. When I say have concerns I dont necessarily mean there is or will be some massive problem. It's really impossible without knowing the future whether or not the moves will pan out.
I just finished listening to Travis’s latest podcast, on the way to work, and after listening to him I feel alright about things.
He had a year to see his coaches in action. How many times did so many on this board say why don't the pull trigger on someone who they want to get rid of. And now he's doing that and some are "worried". Mostly the same people who are always worried but....Also losing coaches to other teams and even the NCAA as they move up is part of life. It shows that we actually chose some good people that others want.
That's a little unfair because you're absolving Flores of any consequences basically. It's almost like you're saying no matter what he does we should blindly trust it because he's always right in his decisions.
Resolving consequences of what? I don't get what you're saying. My intent was to say that he had a chance to actually work with the guys for 1 year. You can make a choice about a player or a coach based on past performance but that doesn't mean that translates to how you run your team. I'm just saying it APPEARS that he didn't like what he saw and was decisive and that's not business as usual for what we typically see. I don't blindly trust him and he isn't always right in his decisions but he is decisive, for good or bad, as the jury is still kinda out but it looks like they were heading in the right direction, maybe, hopefully.
Okay that is fair enough. I thought you were making the implication that the decisions are already the correct ones. What I meant though by consequences is simply that he needs to be held accountable for his decisions, not create a scenario where what he did was right whether it worked out or not in reality. Also I dont mean held accountable now, I mean down the road if they dont work out. That's not what you're saying though so disregard.
