Riley is going full ****** on this... i like gallinari, and ive been wanting him on the Heat for a few years now.. but iguodala does not move the needle one bit and galli does improve our team but the same goes for him, we arent significantly better than the next east team above us because of him.

there isnt a player available out there that puts us over the top.. these are meaningless trades that may hurt the locker room more than anything if we arent careful.

I think Igo is pretty much done. I don’t get it. Gallo I can see the value but it would depend on the compensation if it’s worth it. Gallo is expiring at the end of the year

The Heat clearly don’t trust Winslow to stay healthy. Some guys are just injury prone. Although Iggy is not the paragon of health himself.

Maybe winslows injury is worse than we thought.

Does this mean Riley is going whale hunting? Iggys deal is a team option for the second year.

It sounds like they are also shedding James Johnson and Dion Waiters (and their big contracts), which is a good thing for the Heat, and Gallinari could be a part of the overall package. It's being reported that the deal in the end could be Winslow, Johnson, and Waiters for Iggy and Gallinari. They'll probably also have to add a draft pick or change the restrictions on the ones OKC already owns, but that's a pretty good deal for Miami if that's what happens. There have also been some rumbling that Winslow wasn't seeing eye to eye with management, and Tim Reynolds (who is really good) even said he didn't think Winslow liked playing for the organization, and might not have been a Heat culture guy. It didn't seem that way to me, but Tim is a lot more plugged in than I am.

It's interesting to me because I have thought that this Heat team reminds me a lot of the 2018-2019 Raptors in that you have a really good head coach, add a star in Jimmy Butler like the Raptors did with Kawhi (although Leonard is obviously better), and get a breakout season from Bam like they got from Siakam. Now, there might be even more parallels if the Heat pull off these moves for good veteran role players in Iggy and Gallinari like Toronto did at the deadline with Gasol and Ibaka. I'm not expecting it to end the way that it ended for the Raptors because I think the two LA teams are really good and will be incredibly tough to beat in the finals, but it wouldn't shock me if Miami did some damage in the playoffs, and even got to the finals.

Its everywhere in the heat twitterverse.

This shows me Riley and Andy have their eyes on 2021. Gallo on an expiring and the team option on Iggy. They have the assets to have traded for a better player, but wanted that cap space for 2021. They’re whale hunting, and I love that they’re going for it. Plus, Gallo and Iggy do make the team better this year than an injured Winslow, and JJ and Dion who aren’t key players. That’s gotta make Jimmy and Bam happy.

It’s not for sure yet, but both players were late scratches for tonight’s game. IMO both of those contracts are rough. JJ has had some moments as of late, but neither is really in the rotation ideally, and there was some speculation that Winslow wouldn’t play again this season. This is Riley going for it this year while also keeping the young guys and enough space to make a run at Giannis (or someone like Oladipo) in 2021.

Just googled “Giannis Antetokounpo agent.” It’s a guy named Alex Saratsis. His client list looks to be mainly overseas basketball players.

He’s the agent for all 3 Antetokounmpo bros. His only other big name NBA client? Big Bam Adebayo.

I've been hearing that they're losing faith in him due to the injury. They still believe in his skill set, but they don't believe he's the type to play through any pain. Basically, medical and coaching staff believe he's ready to return, but he's saying his back still hurts and he can't play. I'm guessing there's probably a bit of distrust brewing on both sides.

Knicks did something intelligent aka ***Apocalypse is upon us alert****

Knicks hired former CAA agent Leon Rose as team president. Rose has an extensive client list ranging from AI to Lebron to CP3 etc and been around the league over 15 years. This follows the same route the Lakers took with Rob Pelinka and the GSW took with Bob Myers, both former agents.

I imagine that the expectations in this organization are high. You're expected to be the guy who wants to outwork everybody else. Now all of these guys who achieve this pinnacle have great work ethics, but in Miami they expect a even higher level. I expect that neither Winslow or Waiters are meeting those expectations. It's a shame to give up a young guy with Winslow's talent, but if the fit isn't there, it's usually better to move on for both parties.

I never doubt Riley. Who knows whether it works out or not, but I believe he'll give it a hell of a run. And Riley has enough clout that he almost always gets in the room.

Andre Iguodala may have been the first domino for the Miami Heat at the NBA trade deadline, but their biggest expected addition was Oklahoma City forward Danilo Gallinari. Originally slated to be included in the Iguodala deal as a three-team trade, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that, for now, Miami and Memphis are focusing on making this a two-team deal. With time running out before the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, there is still time to make this work as a three-team deal, but the odds grow thinner by the moment.

There are two apparent snags for Miami in negotiating this deal. The first relates to compensation for the Thunder. Miami owes Oklahoma City its own pick in 2023, but that pick is lottery-protected. However, the structure of that pick's protections means that it may not convey until 2026. Because of the Stepien Rule, which prevents teams from trading consecutive first-round picks, that means Miami is currently unable to include a first-round pick in a potential Gallinari trade without rewriting the protections on the pick that is already owed to Oklahoma City. For now, it seems as though the Heat and Thunder haven't agreed on either new protections for that pick or the draft compensation beyond it.

The other issue is Gallinari's pending free agency. There have been multiple reports suggesting that the Heat negotiated a potential contract extension with Gallinari Wednesday night, but Miami's 2021 aspirations complicate such an arrangement. The Heat want to pursue Giannis Antetokounmpo and other superstars in free agency that summer, so saving max cap space is critical. A Gallinari extension could cut into that. The most the Heat could give him is a two-year deal worth $24.9 million for the 2021-22 season. At this point, Miami will have approximately $54 million in cap space that offseason, but a max contract for Antetokounmpo under the projected $125 million cap would cost $37.5 million. Bringing in Gallinari at that number would make signing a max free agent much harder.

The Heat and Grizzlies will likely hold off on making an official trade call to the league until the last possible moment. Structurally speaking, it would be significantly easier for the Heat to make a three-team deal than two separate two-team deals due to the rules related to salary aggregation. In short, a three-team deal allows the Heat to reroute Jae Crowder and Solomon Hill's salary to Oklahoma City in exchange for Gallinari's. Doing so would be infinitely preferable to trading their own large salaries. Goran Dragic, Kelly Olynyk and Meyers Leonard would all be possible inclusions, but they are all important members of Miami's rotation.

For now, Miami seems content to acquire Iguodala, Crowder and Hill. Such a trade still nets them quite a bit of extra wing depth and shores up any leaks defensively. But Gallinari is the big fish that announces to Milwaukee, Philadelphia and the rest of the Eastern Conference that the Heat are a contender to be taken seriously. Miami will likely still do whatever it can to bring Gallinari in before it's too late.

I just gotta say it, we have to learn from many years of terrible contract negotiations. Im sure at some point in the future, Riley will step down and Spoelstra will be both Coach and President of the Heat. Stop giving bad contracts to average players. We are in Miami, stars are going to want to move and play here. Rollover the cash for players that are worthy of it.

Love that Riley found a way to get financial flexibility back. Justise Winslow may be one of those what if we kept him guys, but hopefully, we can find that max star to pair with Jimmy Butler.

It’s a bummer they didn’t get Gallinari. I think he and Iggy would have made Miami a real threat in the East. The trade is still a win, though. They added a good role player who will fix some of their defensive issues, and Crowder will probably help, too. In addition to that, they created a bunch of room just in case there is an opportunity this offseason, and preserved space to make a run at the 2021 class, where even if they don’t land Giannis, will have some other really good players available like Oladipo, and maybe even Kawhi.

Probably. But we’ll have the space for him. Or one of the other stars available in 2021, depending on who opts in/out. There could be a buffet of stars available.

I think Riley is still one hell of a recruiter. The last 2 players I remember us going hard after were Gordon Hayward and KD...KD the snake had his mind made up on GS. Gordon was always going to go to his college coach.

An interesting thought I just saw on twitter. The Heat will now have a bunch of space this summer. Depending on what KO does, they could have as much as $40M. If AD leaves the Lakers that would obviously be the big move, but that’s probably unlikely. A more realistic option let’s you re-up DJJ with a tiny cap hit because you have his Bird rights, give Dragic a new deal, but most interesting could be giving someone like Gallinari a big one year deal. He wanted a longer deal to make this trade work, but with an extension you are limited to how much you can give, I believe. What they could do is overpay him on a one year deal to make it more appealing. Then there’s always the option of trading for a player who doesn’t plan to stay after their deal is up like an Oladipo or Beal. Either way, Miami has options and should be even better next season.

    Dear MGMT,

Ok, how about 48 and 13 dimes? And we will play Elfrid Payton 37 minutes instead of our best defensive player Frank Ntilikina who will only play 25 in a double OT game. Because wins matter instead of getting young guys experience especially when we are 7 games out of the 8 seed in the East!

    Mr Boik

You are a sad person. Why would anybody write such a hateful letter. I am.just guessing but ill bet your life is a mess and you are a hateful mess. What have you done that anyone would consider positive or nice. I am betting nothing. In fact ill bet you are negative force in everyone who comes in contact with you. You most likely have made your family miserable. Alcoholic maybe. I just celebrated my 21 year anniversary of sobriety. You should try it. Maybe it will help you become a person that folks would like to have around. In the mean while start rooting.for the Nets because the Knicks dont want you.
    Respectfully
    James Dolan

For anyone no in the know, this was an actual Dolan response to a fan.
