Good list. Interesting that you have USC at five. Coaches polls came out today and had USC at one. May I ask whats your reason for ranking them there?
I think I'd keep Illini in the top 25 (25 maybe), because I thought they showed they can be a really good team. Mizzou just happens to be a GREAT looking team.
USC was ranked 5 in my pre-season rankings they didn't not deserve to jump any of the 4 ahead of them. They are ranked low to begin with since they have a new QB, 4 new OL, New TE, no #1 RB (not due to lack of skill), and overrated players like Taylor Mays, Vidal Hazelton, and Brian Cushing. Illinois offense deserved to stay in the Top 25, but their D really looked bad and considering I had them only 18 to begin with. With the way Alabama, UCLA, South Carolina and Ok State played, I can't justify keeping them in. As for Clemson ahead of Alabama: I still think Clemson is the better team, I think they had a piss poor game and Alabama played above themselves. I could be very wrong about that and we'll see in the coming weeks.
Not really Alabama was ranked about 35 for me pre-season so they made a 12 place jump over some teams who won, Clemson dropped 13 spots from where I initially ranked them. Just because they beat them week 1, does not mean they automatically deserved to be ranked higher. If they are better then they will get ahead of them in the coming weeks. One week does not make the college football season.
Yes because thats what the bolded part said. Upsets happen all the time where the better team loses. Teams play down and others play up. Don't try and infer what you want to hear out of my posts, just go with what I say, it'll be a much easier debate.
So then by your logic you would of ranked App State higher than Michigan after week 1 last year? Or that Cal Poly is better than San Diego State this season.
USC demolishes a BCS Conference opponent. Georgia beats on a 1-AA opponent. OSU creams a 1-AA opponent. Florida beats on a rebuilding team. They're the only powerhouse team that scheduled a BCS conf. opponent on the first game of the season. I think USC deserves to jump ahead & be #1 in my book. Even Mizzou deserves a better rank
Sorry dude but if you just get whacked by Alabama and you're Clemson, playing in a patsy conference, you deserve to be lower than the Tide who play in the NFL of conferences.
The gap between Applachian State and Michigan was much bigger in terms of overall ranking than it was between Clemson and Alabama.
USC beat up on a team in disaray that happens to be in one of the worst BCS conferences in the league. Don't let their ACC status fool you into thinking they are some great team. One of the DI-AA teams that Oklahoma, Georgia, and OSU played could of given them a good game, if not beat them. Beating a bad Virginia team does not bump you up and then you take a week off before arguably the biggest game of your season.
Conference strength does not matter to me on week 1 of the NCAAF season, if it were week 6 or 7 after a few conference games, ok then you have an argument there about conference strength, but in week 1 no that has no bearing.
I didn't say it wasn't but his point did not allow for upsets where the lesser team does win sometimes.
Dude, you're just making the rules up as you go along. Kudos for that on one level, but generally....pffftttt.
What rules am I making up exactly? These are my rankings, not anything else. Ive been doing draft stuff for about 7 years now and this is the first year Im actually doing College Football work in general. See my college football preview in this forum. However Im still confused as to what rules Im making up.
Dude, I've been doing draft stuff for 2 decades, your point is what? You can't keep Clemson ahead of Alabama in other other format than your own because it skews the rules.
I heard the same thing whent hey beat Nebraska last year, remind me how good was Nebraska? Still trying to figure out how that great team lost to Stanford.
Good teams have bad games on occasion. Your bashing of USC is forcing me to defend them...please stop lol.
I don't love USC. I root for them to lose every year. I just think that if they play a better opponent while the other teams are playing lesser quality teams then they should be rewarded with the higher rank. D1-A Vs. D1AA is like a varsity team playing a JV team, or an NFL team Vs. AFL team. And any ways do you think USC knew Virginia was going to be that bad when they scheduled the game 4 years ago? just food for thought
My point is that this is my rankings based on my opinion of who is a better team. Ill anticipate that I never have the same rankings as the AP, Harris, or Coaches poll. I personally think all those are badly flawed and that many of them don't watch enough football. If they can do it, why can't I? As for making up rules, you still haven't pointed one out. As Ive shown before upsets happen where a lesser team beats a higher team and the lower team is neither ranked higher nor better than the higher team.
Virginia never has won a National Title and have never won a solo ACC title, in fact their only solo conference title was the SIAC Conference title in 1908. History indicates that Virginia would be a doormat team for them to play. While they have improved under Groh they are still nowhere near a contender in the ACC. Also could they have scheduled Virginia to intentionally miss players like Chris Long? Possibly...Some Clemson fans say that UGA has intentionally scheduled Clemson after Willie Korn is gone from their school, who was a top QB recruit for them. Does it happen? More conjecture than anything probably but its food for thought.
Whatever dude. But I must compliment you on you book of excuses....it seems to be pretty thick and deep.
