I'm not concerned at all with his price tag. He's one of the top dozen players in the NFL, and maybe the best at his position. He'd be a huge upgrade and allow us to focus our draft elsewhere. This is a guy that wins almost every play every game. It's an absolute no brainer given our cap situation. He'd make everyone forget all about Tunsil.
Depends on the draft compensation. I wouldn't necessarily be concerned with his cap price as we have tons of room and figure to spend a good chunk on the OL regardless ... but I am not sure how quickly/effectively he could ramp up after taking an entire year off. Also injury concerns. For a first round pick, not sure I would go that direction. For a 2 or 3, sure.
They're looking for a trade but it would have to be some kind of trade and sign agreement. Story says that Cleveland is interest? Don't think they would offer their 1st rounder. What do you think would get it done? would you be willing to trade the late 1st round pick? It would essentially be trading Tunsil for Williams and you know what you have in Williams, Not so much what you have in a late 1st rounder - but the price tag will be higher than a draft pick. Browns draft picks 2020 Round 1, Pick No. 10 Round 2, Pick No. 41 Round 3, Pick No. 74 Round 3, Pick No. 90 (From Texans) Round 4, Pick No. 105 Round 6, Pick No. 168 (From Cardinals) Round 7, Pick No. 222 (From Packers)
Because of his age and money it will take to sign him, he won't take much to trade for. I'd be surprised if it was any higher than a late 2nd and more likely a 3rd rounder.
Looks like the Jets are showing interest plus the fact he will be 32. Hope they throw a boatload of money at him.
Once a glimmer of a franchise quarterback flashes, Trent Williams will be welcomed here with open arms. We just need a slight flash...of some sort.
Id trade nothing more than a third round pick for him and the contract has got to be team friendly... he isnt is exactly a young guy but i think he still has 3 solid years left in him
I have serious concerns over offensive linemen after the age of 30... So the draft pick would have to be on the low side... The new contract cannot be more than a couple of years. (Option for a third ) We have the money so I am okay paying the guy.
I'm a bit higher than a lot of you guys on him. Personally, if he was a chip in a some sort of blockbuster to get up to #2, I think i would be willing to part with a bit more than I was previously. I get he is older. Signing older guys is something that I was explicitly against in terms of my offseason plan. That being said (a transitional phrase for a big flip-flop), protecting your franchise QB even in the short-term could vastly improve his long term growth. If you said the price was 5, 18, 70, 153 for #2 and Trent Williams, I think both sides would be happy with those results.
I still think the fact that he is over the age of 30 and wants more money severely reduces his value in trade... He has to come at a considerable discount...
