Rogers was a first round pick though. He'd probably be the equivalent of Love in this draft, not Hurts.

And you said it, for every 1 Luck there are 100 Lemons. It's not coaching, it's base talent and skill. It's fine to take one and hope you can develop into a backup level guy for cheap, but you don't go poking around the middle/late rounds expecting any kind of starting level QB. If you want a starter, pick in round 1.

With respect, I don't agree. I am not saying that base talent and skill don't play a major role, but I think coaching and system fit have a lot to do with it.

I think that's a requirement, but the hit rate on non-first rounders is absurdly low. I'm not saying to never draft one, but you don't draft them thinking you have a future franchise level guy. You draft one and hope he can be a semi-decent cheap backup. If you get more, then congrats, you won the lotto. That's a decent strategy to take when you already have an established starter, not to try and build a team around.

Even then Andrew Luck never lived up to his draft billing. Pat Mahomes has done more in his first 3 years than Luck did in his entire career.

Mahomes was a first rounder. I only used Luck as he had been mentioned. And while he didn't have a HoF career, he was a very good, playoff caliber QB. I think we saw the difference between the Colts with Luck and with Brissett. Having Ryan Grigson as GM was a horrifically bad move for that franchise and probably is indirectly what put them in their current circumstance. One of the worst GMs in history.

Yup, and I used Luck/Manning only because it directly compared to the other analogies with Green Bay and New England.

I do agree that generally, you have a better chance with a 1st round QB. HOWEVER, we see it every year that the #1 QB overall often isn't the best of the group because we simply don't know how they'll fit. Our boy Rosen is a perfect example, he was the favorite of a few here pre-draft and they still believe he could be elite someday. And you know what, they might not be wrong....who knows?

For Rosen to have any chance of eventually being a starter though, he needs to be in the EXACT position he's in right now learning under one of those Favre's or Brady's in a system that develops QB's. Not saying Fitzpatrick = Favre but you guys get my point here, success breeds success and we haven't had that for quite a while in Miami.

I don't think we will have great success trying to pluck needles out of a haystack with mid/late drafted QBs either. Shoot your shot, take one of the elite talents and hope your coaching situation plus the talent will equate to a great one, or at least a good one.

As for Rosen, at this point, anything he shows above iffy backup level would be a leap upward. I don't think that many believe he is our future plans in any significant way, though I guess we will see post-draft.

    Andy Reid.

Malholmes is slightly above average himself. Reid is the genius though.

Maholmes will be just another top 12 QB if Reud ever retires.

The odds of drafting a QB as successful as Mahomes would be something like 1 in 300 ( Spitballing here. )

Easy on the Luck hating... He was a fantastic QB... To win a superbowl it takes a lot of talent around the QB and great coaching. Mahomes has ridiculous talent around him.... Deep at the RB position and elite talent at the wideout and TE positions. Reid is a top 3 head coach in the NFL also. Luck never had anything close to that kind of talent and support around him...

I love Watching Mahomes play...The kid is fantastic... But he plays on a great team that is very well coached. When he got hurt this year consider that the team was so talented and deep that they won games with Matt Freaking Moore.... Mahomes missed a month and KC never skipped a beat... Mahomes clearly is better than Moore... But on that team with those weapons around him Matt Moore had a QB rating over 100 and completed 64+ % of his passes.

So let's temper the talk that Mahomes is special and Luck was a bum... If Miami ended up with a QB that had Andrew Luck talent.... With the coaches we have in place now... and the Draft picks we have.... We would be a powerhouse NFL team for close to a decade.

I really hope we do not trade up for anyone in the top 4. Stick at 5 there is not only going to be a great player available there, but also at all those other selections we'd have to give away to move up. We can really put ourselves in a great position this draft... don't throw all your eggs in one basket on one player.

All depends on the grades they have. If Tua and Herbert (and maybe Love) have similar grades, then yeah stay put until need forces your hand. But if you really value one of those guys and feel much better about that players ceiling, you need to make a move.

I'd say a lot depends on Jacksonville and Carolina. If either looks to make an aggressive move, that will force us. Otherwise, I see us and LA standing pat.
