Okay now that we have filled major holes and transformed this defense. Let's start looking for a new paradigm for our ideal draft Mock

So ideally Tua not getting to have a pro day ( Because of coronavirus ) Should help us land him at the 5 spot. ...So without further ado.

    1. (5) Tua... no explanation needed
    1. (12) Kinlaw Has to be done if he drops out of the top 10... Best Defensive Tackle in the draft... He commands double teams and gets to the QB... With Kinlaw we have a monster inside and he makes everyone on the LB and the Defensive line better.
    1. (26) Best Safety left.... Mckinney, Delpit,

    Second Round

    2. D' Andre Smith... With the holes, we have filled... If they can steal this guy here... I am all for it... Smith has game... A lot of Game. He shows a lot of promise as a blocker and he might be the best pass-catching back in the Draft. He has great vision also. He hits the hole hard. He Has great burst and can make defenders miss in the open field.
    2. Lloyd Cushenberry... We need to address the O line... The better the Center, the better the Guards... Which helps the Tackles. I really expect the Dolphins to add another offensive lineman before the draft. So that will represent three significant upgrades to the Offensive line.

I should point out that our second pick is #18, not #12. I'm not sure if they changes your thinking.

I personally feel that we need to spend high picks on the offensive line.

I was about to ask whether we could afford to ignore QB early now and hold off but then I had another thought. Hopkins leaving the Texans, how badly do we think that hurts them next year? Don't we have their 2021 1st?

No... I thought I indicated ... It was late and I have been sick with this respiratory illness... (Hoping it is not Corona)

If Kinlaw does not get drafted top 10... The Dolphins need to get on the phone and use a couple of their lower level picks in rounds 5 through 7 to move up to grab Kinlaw. I knew the Dolphins pick 18th.... But there is no way Kinlaw falls that far... He may not make it past the 9th spot when the Jaguars pick.

But even with the Jaguars... Send them a 5th, a 6th, and a 7th to move up to the 9 spot and grab Kinlaw ( they also get pick 18 )

The other player that I would consider moving up 3-5 spots for is Ruggs. If he is there and Kinlaw is gone and Ruggs makes it past the 12th pick I get on the phone and see if I can move up. I think Ruggs blistering speed gives the Dolphins the perfect compliment to Parker and Williams who both have superior size. Ruggs is Tyreek Hill fast... That is what he brings to an offense.

Because we have so much draft capital, If someone falls that would be a huge asset to us I think we have to use a couple of the late round picks to move up and secure one of those special players that fills one of our needs perfectly.

I hope that is a better explanation?

Just did this 3-round mock on The Draft Network:
    • 5 Justin Herbert, QB Oregon
    • 18 Javon Kinlaw, IDL South Carolina
    • 26 Grant Delpit, S LSU
    • 39 Austin Jackson, OT USC
    • 56 Jonathan Taylor, RB Wisconsin
    • 70 Jalen Hurts, QB Oklahoma
Tua fell all the way to NE at #23

I just did the Draft Network
    5 Tua Tagovailoa, QB Alabama
18 Javon Kinlaw, IDL South Carolina
    26 Josh Jones, OT Houston
39 Antoine Winfield Jr., S Minnesota
    56 Jonathan Taylor, RB Wisconsin
70 Prince Tega Wanogho, OT Auburn

Though I would also try to use the lower draft picks to trade up.

I think it was the other highly rated centre (Humphrey) that went back - Cushenberry declared

I like Kinlaw also but there’s no way you’re going to be able to move up 6 spots with just day 3 picks. If that’s what you want plan on giving up at least 1 day 2 pick.

I like the players you picked but I can’t see the first two rounds passing without at least 1 OT. We literally have 2 on the entire roster and only 1 even remotely capable of starting (Jesse Davis). This OL needs a lot of work. I don’t really want to know about a skill player til 70 at earliest.

    I’d be much happier with:
    5. Tua/Herbert (prefer Tua by a hair, perfectly fine with Herbert)
    18. AJ Epenesa
    26. Austin Jackson (LT)
    39. Cesar Ruiz (C)
    56. Antoine Winfield (FS)
    70. Isaiah Wilson (RT)

After Tua comes off the board the asking price to move up 3-6 spots in the draft will be dramatically lowered. Also because the Dolphins have extra draft capital in the 2021 draft if they have to give up a second day draft pick maybe it is a pick next year.

But to move from 18 to 12... a 5th and two 7ths... I think would be enough. There is a scale that teams used to use... It gets thrown out the window at the top of the draft when teams are overpaying for Quarterbacks. Once we get to the middle of the first round I expect that foolishness to calm down.

Without looking there should be a team that is picking in the 12-15 range that would like three extra picks... Even if those picks are on day three.

Did another 3-rounder, this one on Fanspeak.com:

    #5: OT MEKHI BECTON, LOUISVILLE
    #18: QB JUSTIN HERBERT, OREGON
    #26: S XAIVER MCKINNEY, ALABAMA
    #39: C CESAR RUIZ, MICHIGAN
#56: RB J.K. DOBBINS, OHIO STATE
    #70: QB JALEN HURTS, OKLAHOMA

Seriously doubt Herbert falls to #18, but hey...it's what they gave me so I took it!

Looking at some past trades, while strict value may match up, I don't think day 3 picks will get it done. Trades within the first round seem pretty exclusively to revolve around day 2 or higher. For instance, the Bills traded up in 2018 draft from slot 22 to 16. They gave up a 3rd and received a 5th back.

Look at your example.. moving up 6 spots did not cost much at all... gave up a third and got a 5th back in return

Cancel out getting the 5th back in return and what are we talking about here... a Day three pick Offer a 5th and two 7ths and get it done.

You are offering quantity over quality, I don't think that will fly. We'd have to drop 70 and may get back some low level 5th rounder back.

You just completely ignored that to get a day two pick additional compensation had to be given along with the 16th overall pick.

In your example to move up 6 spots in the draft... and get a day two pick the swap of picks alone was not enough.

You just provided evidence that suggests that in a simple swap moving 6 spots in the middle of the first round does not have to require a day two pick being involved.

Maybe it has to be two 5th round picks and a 7th??? But in your example in order for a day two pick to be exchanged moving 6 spots was not enough... The team trading down gave up additional compensation. It is a point that cannot be ignored.

I like Taylor just fine... I happen to think we are better served waiting and taking Dillon maybe in the 4th... and focusing on the O line in the second round.

    Bills get pick 16 and a 5th.
    Ravens get pick 22 and a 3rd.

The Ravens were unwilling to take a bunch of low level picks, and even gave one up in order to ensure they got a day 2 pick. We aren't going to fleece a team moving up from 18 to 12ish by offering a bunch of lotto tickets.
