So I've long been saying the Dolphins should not only pick a day one QB but also a day two or three. Or a day 2 and 3. So play along, pick a pair. A draft pick and a FA would count. For the purposes of this exercise assume Fitz is day one starter, Rosen is bye bye unless you want to use him for your FA.

    I'll start.

Not a fan of Tua, but if we end up picking him at 5, getting the band back together and picking Hurts late second, early third. I'd be happy.

Hopefully Tua gets snatched before our pick and we take Simmons at 5. Off topic but that would set up my preference for 2 QBs in the draft.

At 26, or 39 if you think he falls Pick Eason. Needs a year to sit and learn. I think hes going to be top 3 of this years QBs in 5 years.

In the 5th, maybe 6th but I doubt he'd be there, Cole McDonald, HI. Another Junior, needs some coaching up on his release, but he's got a gun, and he can fly when he runs it.

Who's your two? Why them? How does that effect the rest of the first 2 days draft?

Keep Rosen as the starter. I love him and want him to get every chance.

Draft Fromm in the 3rd round as a long term backup with upside. Potential trade chip down the line if he develops well.

Trade Beardo to a contender who needs a backup.

I am all for Keeping Rosen... I thought for a brief moment last year on the Dolphins he was the answer. I see why Fitzmagic had to play.. I think the coaches did the right thing by getting Rosen out of there when he was getting clobbered... Young QB with almost no experience in that situation is only going to do more damage than good. The coaches like Rosen and Rosen loves Flores... As long as Rosen keeps working hard and being humble I want him on this team... If he steps up and is able to start I am all for it.

That being said I want no part of Fromm. He looked terrible trying to throw the football at the combine. He did not look like he had any kind of arm talent.

I have said this before and I will post it again...

Jalen Hurts and Anthony Gordon. Gordon has the great mechanics and quick release.. He gets rid of the football faster than anyone. ( which on a Dolphins team might be a good thing. ) Hurts showed he has the arm to play in the NFL at the combine.. Matching throws with Herbert.

Hurts in the third and Gordon in the 5th

Just as a comparison, I pulled Zierlien's prospect evaluation for Tua (6.82), Rosen (6.70), and Herbert (6.45) from NFL.com. For ease, I will create 3 separate posts for each. I included the draft grade, his analysis, and only their weaknesses. Part of this exercise is to see how QBs in that range this year stack up against Rosen. I am also looking for any clues or indicators about Rosen to see if, in hindsight, they should have been a deal-breaker.

Tua's grade is the highest of the three. Going by the, "How we grade" Tua should be a quality year one starter.

Durability issues and size aside, I don't see anything major that would make me think Tua couldn't get it done in the NFL if he had time to sit and learn. Reading the full defense and pocket management to protect himself are things he (and most QBs) probably need to work on.

The next highest-rated QB is Rosen.
    Rosen Prospect Grade.PNG
As we can see, he was rated as a year 1 quality starter.

    Rosen Analysis.PNG
This is where I think there are clues as to why Rosen has struggled. Zierlein's biggest concern was that Rosen's on-field success requires many elements to stay on schedule. Is it too easy for defenses to take away what he does best and therefor nullifying his effectiveness? I think of the fire triangle here. You take away one element and the fire is out.

    Rosen Weaknesses.PNG

I am going to set aside the question about Rosen's passion for football and look for clues as to why he has struggled. Offhand, I see several things: 1) Struggles to elude early pressure 2) His completion rate of only 42% when forced to move 3) Too much hero ball (failure to stay within the system?), which to me, in the NFL, are things that are really hard for QBs to overcome. I see a lot of Rosen's issues as either bad coaching in his college years, or a student not listening, learning, and trying to overcome. Rosen is on the team. It would be great if he worked out. However, I don't think many in the organization are holding out much hope for him. Most QBs are over-drafted. They whiffed badly by taking him as high as they did.

Herbert is a distant 3rd and with his grade should be starter within 2 years.

    Herbert Analysis.PNG
Reading between the lines, Herbert is probably an underachiever. He has the physical tools, but he doesn't deliver. I think most see this as a talent level thing, but it could also be his mental makeup.

I can understand his grade a little bit after looking at his weaknesses. Some things that stand out to me 1) More mechanical than a maestro ( is he a natural football player?) 2) Toggles between caution and worry when attacking first two levels ( can't play scared in the NFL) 3) Flat throws/lack of touch ( he makes it hard on himself and everyone else).

What stands out to me are the "durability concerns" for both Tua and Rosen is the number one weakness. Herbert's weaknesses seem largely coachable.
I think you have to look at the prospects as a raw talent and ask yourself who is likely to develop the most in the hands of NFL quality coaches.

I mean if they drafted 4 quarterbacks.... And one of them panned out so that two years from now we had a guy as good as Tannehill... I would be all for it.

You say this is as a joke, but given the ratio of QB picks to successes, I'd be willing to trade a bunch of our picks to take Joe Burrow and then draft someone like Anthony Gordon or Jake Fromme State Farm in a later round as an insurance policy.

I honestly do not see how anyone can look past Tua's injury history.

I’d be all for a developmental qb who will be one of the best of the draft in 5 years. Honestly with Chan coming in I think we get another solid year of fitz and Rosen sits all year and develops and pushes fitz as starter the next season. (With Chan and Fitz it’s like having two personal coaches for Rosen...make or break his career right here) Then we keep developing a guy to take over when we let go of Rosen if we ever do. I honestly think we are in the greatest position to be an overnight overhaul with the draft and a7-10 year juggernaut if draft is orchestrated correctly the next 3 years...

Bah, you can't trade Fitzpatrick after how he closed the season last year. He's basically a cult hero in Miami- either play him or suggest retirement.

I am all for Rosen starting though and would love him to develop into our QB of the future. If we don't take a QB in round one, that's the front office signaling that they think the same thing.

I'm ok with drafting Herbert, because I also like him, though not as much as Rosen. But if they draft one of the QBs that I don't like and kick Rosen to the curb, its going to be a wound that never heals.
