What would your draft plan be by the way? I know you dont want a QB early but what positions or players are you looking at?

I do want Herbert which conflicts with you, but aside from that I want us to grab a LT, C, Safety, HB, DT and potentially an edge rusher.

I'd like to sit Herbert an entire year behind Fitz and fix our lines this year and next year in FA if needed before playing him, giving him the best chance to succeed and grow.

I know you feel different about QB but I feel our other value positions may be similar as I do value some of the same things as you.

The issue is that there is no way we get Lawrence, so you need to be looking at whatever else will be available.

It's really easy to say any year that there is a safer pick or more value in another position, but using that logic we may just never draft a QB until we pick #1.

I dont think we should take a QB we dont like for the record, but if you dont like any of the top 3 you arent going to like anyone next year because Herbert would be the #2 QB selected behind Lawrence if he were still in school, barring another Joe Burrow unearthing himself.

I've pretty much made my feelings known, but to go over them again...

I want to build the "car".
I want instant starters on the OL, which has been our Achilles heel for years
I want instant starters on the DL and the secondary
I want a STUD running back that forces defenses to put 8 in the box
I want disciplined receivers who run routes and can catch

I want all of this before I even think about getting a quarterback. I want this team set so whatever quarterback we do eventually get can step right in and drive this "car" to "Victory Lane"

All of the "great" quarterbacks that are so often discussed...they all had THAT in common. Their team was already built

Before I talk about the QB position, I want to say it's good we actually seem to agree on just about everything else. I also want to build the trenches into dominant units, I want to be able to effectively run the ball on all three downs and protect the QB. I want our defense to be a nightmare for a QB to face.

That said, every QB doesnt have that in common.

Troy Aikman went to a terrible Dallas team.

The Colts were god awful before drafting Peyton.

The Saints were not a good team before signing Brees and nor were the Chargers before drafting him.

The Giants were terrible before Eli.

The Broncos were terrible before Elway.

    We were awful before Griese.

Archie Manning was a great QB despite how inept his team was. Which is why I also want us to build right btw.

I dont think there is any one correct way to acquire a QB. In the end, just like every position you want the best guy you can get.

In other words...if you gave me a race car I'd probably crash if I was in a race. What if you put an amazing driver in it though? He might finish first.

Actually, you're not entirely correct about the quarterbacks you mentioned and the teams they went to.

The Saints weren't God awful....they were average. Granted, the year prior to Brees being traded the Saints were 3-13, but the years prior, they were 8-8 and 8-8. They were a team that needed a quarterback.

Same thing with Manning and the Colts. The years prior to Manning's draft the Colts were 3-13, 9-7 and 9-7. They needed a quarterback

The Giants prior to Eli; 4-12, 10-6 and 9-7. They needed a quarterback

Griese played under George Wilson for 3 years prior to Joe Robbie firing him and bringing in Don Shula. Shula completely overhauled the entire team and under Shula's first year as HC, the Dolphins went 10-4 with Griese as QB.

But my point still stands...any GREAT quarterback that's ever discussed, the TEAM was already SET and that's what Miami needs to do. the most recent example of having a team SET and then getting their quarterback are this past season's Titans. They had their team set, they had a Heisman Trophy quarterback in Mariotta and still couldn't win. Bring in Tannehill and they were 1 game shy of the dance.

Build the team and the rest will fall into place.

We can agree to disagree on that, to me by that logic we are also just waiting for a QB because we have been average, but the NFL isnt linear like that where a record 2 years ago tells much about the current state of the team drafting.

Like I said though I'm content to agree to disagree, I didnt come here to debate it really I was just curious about your strategy aside from QB.

I hope you at least also respect the fact I'd like to sit the QB a year to continue building those other areas. This also gives a QB a year to learn a system and come in truly prepared when the team is ready.

I'm not saying you should agree or something, just hoping you also can respect where in coming from.
