PS. Lots of talent still out there. This second round will be more like a 1A when all is said and done.

Do you think Noah will be used as a punt/KO returner?

I am not particularly in love with our last two pick either, but I am holding off judgement at the moment. I am probably the very last person on this board who would do so. If a pick is bad, I think a pick is bad.

This is why it is different. We are still EARLY in our rebuild. I think we need to see how the rest of the draft comes together. I thought Austin Jackson was the second most overrated player in the draft (go look at my mock from yesterday if you don't believe me). Buuuuut, let's just say we snag Josh Jones early this evening. We would have Jackson, Flower, Karras, Dieter, Davis, and obviously Jones. I feel like somehow we would be able to put a line together. I personally think Jackson will wind up as a guard, and would feel much better if that is where he is.

I agree with you on Jackson and USC is the team i root for.. i honestly didnt think he would have been picked in the first round.. but of course the dolphins did it... this guy gets beat easily.. some people also had Pittman in the first round.. hope pittman is ready to see the fourth round of the draft..

with that said Chan Gailey runs a Zone Blocking Scheme.. and with Austins combo of quick feet, size and his strength, which he displayed in the combine, he is the type of tackle that Chan looks for.

He got manhandled by AJ Espenesa. Think it was a reach at 18.

I don't get into "arguments" any more over this stuff, as everyone has an opinion, and I get you don't like him....but Noah Vowels the Auburn CB is feisty, a little cocky, quick feet and long speed....I had him as CB3 behind Henderson and Okudah and I actually had Henderson ahead of Okudah. Noah Vowels if he came out next year would have been a top 15 pick in all likelihood. He got better and better as the year progressed and he was not bad to begin with...he is a sticky well built kid learning to be a CB. His hands are little suspect for a converted WR but he can play. I am usually THE most down on a Phins draft but I really like the first three picks. You will likely be labeling Noah Vowels a bust next year as he might not be field ready until later, but his upside is off the charts and his floor is a solid slot corner...but he absolutely can play boundary......his most impressive trait is fundamental, he is a solid one strike tackler.

I like Jaylon Johnson and really like the kid Reggie Robinson, and I like Gladney to some extent...Fulton IMHO has tight ankles and is a limited boundary zone guy...Fulton cant find the ball if it had a bell on it and plays too much side saddle bail out coverage to be elite IMHO...he might be a better safety prospect as he is long and can deliver a strike, but he would be overdrafted if he went yesterday or early tonight. I am definitely not a Bryce Hall fan this early. He has medical issues in all likelihood, he does not transition well vertically and he has made a living mostly playing off man and he can close at the CFB level but he does not elite twitch or close. All in all a couple your guys that I personally like but I really think the value will come from Reggie Robinson from Tulsa...he has more than enough straight line speed, he is twitchy and has really good agility and COD. His hands are ehhhh and he gets beat off the press at times, but if you get him after R3 which you likely will, then he is a steal in my book...which counts for **** since it is just another opinion.........

Round 1 was a future draft. Not likely to make a real impact in 2020. Will they find a solid G, WR, RB, or TE to help the offense this year or do they continue to stockpile raw prospects.

Who's on your wish list for tonight? We are starting with 2 picks. It will be interesting to see if we make any trades.

Edit: That should be 3 picks. I forgot about including round 3 tonight.

No idea, but the skill set is there. Perhaps that makes a dude like Grant expendable if we pick up another WR at some point, if not, just gives us some good options. He was a punt team gunner as well though, which could be good hidden value.

. After picking up a 4 last night, we’ve got 2 4ths and 3 5ths which should allow us to move around.

Winfield, Jones, Swift, Taylor or another interior Ol would be on my wishlist

I don't like it when QBs take a beating so I hope they improve the line. Josh Jones or Cleveland if they can be a RT. Swift or Taylor if they go free agency to improve the line. Same for Mims.

Three picks tonight, rounds 2 and 3.

I'd love to see a stud RB taken - Dobbins, Swift and Taylor all fit the bill for me. Aother OL, take your pick of tackles or interior players. I know safety is a big need, but I can't help but wonder if we really value that spot highly. Defensive line or LB could also use some improvement. Lots of good choices here - depending on how the board is falling, some trading wouldn't surprise me, but with the more rapid fire middle rounds here, I wonder if the GM's continue to play it conservatively in the face of this new format, of if the success of round 1 prompts them to loosen up a bit.

As I’ve said before, I’m watching from afar and watch very, very little college football and I don’t have any of the in-depth coverage of the game that you guys get, so I’m always happy to read your opinions on the Fins and football in general.

This is the fundamental problem I had with the first round. Raw developmental prospects who are not ready to start day one should not be taken in the first round. Both Jackson and Noah most probably would have been available day 2 had we not taken them day one.

We left a a lot of potential day one starters at positions of need on the board in order to take these developmental prospects.

This first round tells me one thing, the dolphins are not interested in winning many games this year, and they are going to be picking in the top 10 again in 2021.

If we are not careful, we are going to end up like the browns.

Valid arguments, but I simply dont agree. Noah is twitchy and explosive out of breaks, but he does not have great "long speed" as you say. He was the 17th fastest DB at the combine, and I dont think he is better than fulton. Fulton played mostly man coverage his entire career at LSU and did well against the nations best receivers, he is a much more polished and NFL ready corner, and regardless I think there were much better players available at positions of greater need at 26.

My main problem with the first round is that none of these guys are ready to start in the NFL year one. Tua is a very high risk pick who will sit out year one and then we hope he doesnt get hurt again. Jackson is a very raw tackle who is probably going to get embarrassed if we start him day one, same thing with Noah.

What this draft sets us up for is another year of losing and we will be back with another top ten pick next year.

Fair enough but I would point out, the Tape says he has excellent long catch up speed. He was also faster than 30 DB's...the average for a CB is 4.48...he ran 4.48. his time was the same as Okudah and basically the same as Gladney, Fulton and Jackson that you said you do like. I do agree that all these picks are playing the long game and when you get to 20 or so then there will always be disagreement on a player because we value different things and players start to get compressed...but if you are drafting ceiling then these are potential home runs. And I am not usually a fan of Miami Dolphin drafts particularly how they slow value. Personally I am very good with these choices, but I respect your opinion and appreciate the manner this conversation has evolved....maybe I will spend a little more time here if this is the"new" conversation level....

There are still a few epic jerks here, but for the most part this forum has been incredibly respectful of others for the past 3-4 years. They did overhaul the moderators as well to try and set the tone for respectful conversations- the personal attacks get nipped in the bud pretty fast.

Just avoid the Tannehill thread, that's the site's only ticking time-bomb right now where logic does not always shine. Any other thread is pretty safe with good people that will argue respectfully. I know you though and that RT thread would become toxic in a hurry, LOL.

Maybe it's because the front office realizes this isn't a single year rebuild and we can afford patience?

And, like, we don't even know if there will even BE a season. Taking young kids with massive upside is a good play.

I know we all got excited by our finish last year, but lets be real, we aren't challenging the elite quite yet.

You'd think that but in reality, the entire AFC East is in rebuild mode right now...the Bills "should be" the new powerhouse since they've done so little in terms of drastic change. I think this season is wide open for Miami and they're banking on smart QB play and a very stingy pass defense.

I mean, Fitzpatrick went on a little tear at the end of the season with a patchwork line, so folks thinking we have to have day-1 All-Pros to play meaningful downs are delusional. This was and always will be a 2-3 year rebuild and getting the right chess pieces is far more important than having day-one starters.

The problem I have with this draft so far is that the team doesn't seem to follow the philosophy that you aim for steals and not reaches.

Think about the last time you did a fantasy draft and you had a "sleeper" pick you valued. You believed, and rightly so, that despite your fervor for that player, you could wait until the final rounds to get him because there was likely no one else who viewed him as a sleeper.

The Dolphins on the other hand seem to get geared up to target a certain guy and then reach for him, when they could more realistically wait and get that same player later.

The flip side of this is that they don't trade up and target players who have fallen and would be steals where they could get them. When you have a bevy of picks, you have the ammo to trade up and come away with steals. Instead they sit around and come away with reaches.

I may not agree with how it went but I think I see where they are going.
    1. Talent. If still raw
    2. Character. Building a new culture
    3. Coachable. Getting the most out of their talent.
I think 4-5 wins again is likely.

We do know that they had conversations to trade up to 1, 2, 3, and 4. And we know that the asking price was high...higher than any other team could sensibly pay. That's why we sat at #5.

I did not see anything on tape to convince me he has great long speed, he does have great short speed, explosiveness and is a twitchy athlete who accelerates very quickly in and out of breaks, but he does not have great long speed to keep up with speedsters in a straight away. As you said he ran a 4.48, that is middle of the pack, you can't claim he has great long speed running a very average 4.48

Overall I think his skill set projects best as a safety/slot corner type. He does not have a boundary corner skill set due to his lack of size, ball skills, and yes his lack of straight away long speed.

Only reason he didn't get beat with speed more often is because he was constantly grabbing and riding receivers to prevent seperation. He was penalized very often in college and he will not get away with it in the NFL.

Offensive tackles need to have great footwork and agility to deal with speed rushers as well as length and strength to deal with power rushers. Tackles are generally the better athletes than guards. Guards on the other hand don't need exceptional feet or quickness, they just need to be really strong and technically sound along with adequate agility to pull and reach the second level.

As a general rule foot quickness and length are the physical traits which separate Tackles from guards/centers. Tackles require great foot quickness and length, guards/centers don't.

The basis is a great combo of size, quickness, strength and athleticism. Powerful core, good technique in run (explosion off the ball, stays low, drives through target with lower body strength) and in passing (good footwork, upper body strength). You have to know what the entire line is doing so intelligence/communication plays a factor, vision is also a plus.

Very few prospects will have everything above and teams will value those traits differently. Some want a good balance while others want a mauler in run plays that's decent pass blocking (or vise versa). Some want huge linemen since it's harder to get around them while others prefer guys in that 275-290 frame that are more athletic.

As far as positions, not a lot changes in terms of skill- guards are usually the more athletic guys to block down and get after linebackers. Tackles are usually bigger but a great core (balance, strength, footwork, etc) since they're facing ultra-speedy ends. All of them need a great 1st step. Centers are guards that snap the ball and call out coverages, so nothing extra-special there except those two things and maybe a little leadership.

LMAO! What you just posted may be the dumbest thing you've ever written here. And that's saying a lot. I mean, you are absolutely 100% wrong in what I highlighted. Those types of throws are why Tua is so good. He had the best accuracy and ball placement out of all the QB's in this draft. He is also phenomenal at throwing into tight windows.

It was just reported on ESPN that, just as I suspected, Ross was the big influence on the Tua pick. They said that he made the final decision and pretty much demanded that Tua be the pick.

I’ve been ready to fire Ross for several years now. But I can’t give Grier a free pass, if he doesn’t hit on the Minkah/Tunsil picks, 5 starters over 4 drafts is unacceptable by any standard.

Way to cherry pick Danny, that is the only thing you are good at. In most of the arguments we have had you have turned out to be wrong.

I should have said under pressure. Tua is not good at throwing under pressure into tight windows, or when he has to go off script to his 2nd or 3rd read. Basically he is a great quarterback under ideal conditions like he had most of the time in Alabama, but whenever those conditions were less than ideal (under pressure, having to progress through his reads, out of pocket, on the move, etc...) his performance diminished dramatically.

Regardless, my main gripe with the Tua pick has always been his injury history, and the fact he was a product of a great system and great team in alabama which really has no track record of producing quality NFL QBs.
