Could we see two teams from the SEC in the NC game?

That would be interesting, but I don't know if we'll ever see two teams from the same conference playing for the National Championship with the current system. If we had playoffs like baseball and basketball it could happen.

 

A lot of Doyel's articles spark controversy, but he wrote the right piece if he was looking for an angry mob to watch his back on this one.

Theoretically, it's possible, I suppose, but it's very improbable because of the SEC Championship game. There's always the old argument - let's just say Florida beats Georgia (so many site members are happy), and UGa goes 11-1, and then Florida goes and beats the Sabanites (so I don't sound biased) in the SEC Championship Game - leaving Florida at # 1 and some other team (Oklahoma) in some other conference than ran the slate or only lost one but won their championship... well, there's always that argument that a lot of the voters, which affect the BCS standing to a great degree, go by that says, "How can a team that didn't win it's own division, not to mention even go to it's conference-championship game, be in the National Championship game?" And who's to say if Florida won in OT in the SEC Championship, those two teams aren't still the two most deserving teams for the BCS Championship? I never agree with that argument.

Back in the day, if you were to put the boxers Ali, Norton, Foreman, and Frazier in a conference (SEC) and then put all the other boxers in other conferences - well, other boxers would go undefeated and Ali, Norton, Foreman, and Frazier would beat the helloutta each other, and the Number 2 on the "SEC" may even have more than one loss. But, the Number 2 in that conference would be the second most deserving fighter for the championship, no doubt. It's the same with football.

 

We should but we wont because there will be someone from the Big Ten, Big 12 or Pac 10.

I dont think there are 2 teams in the SEC better than USC tbh. I agree that the SEC title game makes this tricky, because no bowl wants a replay of a game that was seen a month prior.

 

There are 5 teams (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU) in the SEC right now that would give USC a good game. I am not going to say that all those teams would win or any of them win but its tough to go 4-1 with that schedule.


SEC may not have 1 team in the National title game this year becuase they all beat each other up. Look at LSU and Florida who both won National titles. Florida had some lucky breaks and rough games they could have lost. LSU had a few games they could have lost as well.


Don't even get me started on how an undeafeted SEC team does not even make the National title game (Auburn).

 

Yeah. Don't get me started, either.

That was the second time we had gone undefeated in an 11-year span (the former being the 1993 11-0 season when we were on probation... so maybe that's understandable - but maybe not, all the same, as no other team was undefeated that year), and neither time did we factor.

Outrage! Travesty of justice!

It's a wonder I can watch college football with a straight face.

 

Or the fact that USC and OU started the season ranked 1-2 while Auburn started 17th. Georgia was the only other SEC team in the top 14 at years end. There is some controversy every year.

 

All this talk of SEC teams being hurt by their tough schedule just doesnt seem to match reality. They do have tough schedules, but it doesnt seem to be keeping them out of BCS bowls or title games.

 

Well there is a lot of luck involved.

 

Better hope a SEC team doesnt schedule a pac 10 team on the road because they obviously cant win playing on the road against a new team not in there conference.

 

Wouldn't they first have to actually schedule a game on the road?


I feel pretty confident South Carolina won't be playing for a NC this year.
