Yeah I thought he'd have been a decent back, but he's already bounced around without sticking. Probably not too mang more chances.

Obviously we weren't thrilled with Peppers performance long snapping lol. I didn't really see enough to comment, but clearly a spot the team wanted more at.

Some people here seemed to have hope for Hanks when we picked him up. Too bad nothing came of it.

I dont think anyone had him as a superstar but some thought he could contribute eventually.

I read he had 7 missed tackles last year, 5 higher than any other LS. Writing was on the wall.

So it wasn't the longsnapping in and of itself. I was his tackling on Special Teams. Now it makes sense.

Would be interesting to compare how many he made though against the other LS to see if he was downfield in position more or just terrible at tackling

Good question. Pepper seemed to imply that his missed tackles were because he was down the field ahead of everyone else. I am not sure if it's every man for himself, or if there is a plan where groups of guys work together to contain and tackle the returner. I am guessing the latter. If so, maybe Pepper was just freelancing a little too much for Crossman who may have thought his actions were costing us some return yardage. Personally, I am glad they aren't messing around. Raise the bar. :-)

Agree, it says to me that Flores has his eye on and his standards set for every aspect of the team. Some people may see it as a strange decision but if something like these cuts a third off the return yardage, the opposition have worse field position so have to go further to get points - may not seem much but it adds up

Well generally on returns each defender has a sort of "lane" they are covering while also of course pursuing the ball to a degree of course. Kind of like how on a running play the edge defender away from the play has to cover the cutback rather than just blindly pursue.

That said, it is possible to outrun your coverage team. That in theory can be good if you make the tackle, but generally as a LS I'd imagine getting there first isn't the best thing, especially if you're in the open field against a returner.

With Breida and Howard now at the top of the RB chart, one of the others had to go, and he was the most logical. The team still has multiple years of cheap control with Ballage, Laird and Gaskins. My guess is that Turner is next on the chopping block if they need to make more room.

Depending on how much they like Perry, and how they plan to use him this season, only one of those four might make the final roster.

Personally, I think Gaskin is the one to stick - don't see as much from Laird and Ballage is Ballage. Maybe Laird onto the practice squad if he is still eligible?

They changed the PS rules to make it much more liberal that it had been before, so the team could keep just about anyone that way if they and the player wanted to. I agree that of the four less proven players, Gaskins is the one I'd most like to keep around, especially at his regular, rookie contract. Then look to the 2021 draft for a longer term option.

I think both could stick if they do not go get someone at the final cuts. But if only one sticks Laird is by far the guy I would bet on. Laird offers more blocking in the passing game, catches better, gets more depth in his routes, and plays far more core specialty teams, shows more leadership, is more respected, and plays them (ST's) far better than Ballage or Gaskins. I could see none of them making it or I could see 2 of them making it. Cox is also IMHO not assured of a roster spot. I think personally the most likely scenario is Laird makes the team and Gasking gets a PS spot where he is pulled up every week under the new rules. Ballage has ZERO instincts with the ball in his hands and catches like the ball has Corona Virus or has been dipped in grease.........other than one run he has been atrocious......but Gailey will get a lot of authority on those special role type players and my bet is he loves Laird by the end of camp. Laird just offers more although none of these guys I doubt are viewed as core down backs.
