Today would have been the first day of preseason for the Dolphins. Coupled with the fact that we also would have been reading a lot of fan camp reports but can't due to the virus as well.

Basically saying, we have almost nothing else to talk about.

He certainly has managed to stick around for a lot longer than I thought that he would. With the right surroundings, where the team is willing to only use him as a low percentage, big play threat, he's been able to be useful. But it has to be the right fit. After he left Miami, he had four out of five years where he caught less than 20 passes, including one where he was healthy but only caught two. I really thought he was done back in 2014, before he was 30 years old. But then he was part of that crazy big play season Carolina had in 2015, and he's been used in similar roles since.

As far as the Dolphins most prolific draft picks since 2000, he's played in the most games (187) of any of them, so he certainly deserves to be on the list. But Chris Chambers and Jarvis Landry have more yards and TDs than he does, and Landry is only 27 with many years still ahead of him probably. And while I don't want to turn this into yet another RT17 thread, when its all said and done, he's likely going to be in at least the top 30 all time on the passing list, so his league wide accomplishments will likely dwarf any other offensive player drafted by the Dolphins since the early 90s.

Sure, I completely agree with you....I was struggling how to phrase that. I guess I should have said "The longest active career with major contributions <at times>." LOL, I knew what I wanted to say and I think you knew what I wanted to say as well, there's just no great way to say he's been better than everyone but Denny in somehow sticking around and occasionally getting us out of our seats.

I also agree that RT or Landry are the most prolific contributors in the past 20 years- I'm sure there's several more we can name (Matt Moore, Wake, etc) in different types of equally important roles. I definitely wasn't trying to say Ginn was better than these fine folks...but he did outlast them! =)

Yeah Wake is probably the most accomplished player to start his NFL career as a Dolphin, but he wasn't drafted, so I didn't include him.

Matt Moore has the distinction of having the longest career of any backup qb in Miami history, but that's about it.

Better career than Brady Quinn's, that for sure.

Who I will honestly admit, absolutely wanted over Ginn. I remember being so upset that we didn't draft him.

I was of mixed emotions. I was very happy we didn't draft Quinn. I thought he wasn't going to be good. I was also not very happy about Ginn. I liked the idea of an explosive offensive player but I didn't think he had the route running skillset necessary to justify being that early of a pick. I wish I could say I wanted Revis, but I didn't know who he was. I wanted Willis.

I had dreams of a fast linebacker who can actually cover runningbacks out of the backfield. A rarity in Miami.

I have dreams of that every year....just give me the best MLB in the draft and we'll root for him to become the next Mike Singletary. I always want the best RB in the draft too though, even though it's usually a luxury pick since there's so many studs available.

My biggest complaint was that when we decided to let him go we had no one in the deep threat/big play threat on our roster. Which lead to us overpaying for big name WRs in FA.

I remember he also had a monster game against Buffalo where he made a bunch of tough catches and had something like 200 yards on 8 receptions and thinking he’s turned the corner. Then next week the alligator arms and going out of bounds at the earliest opportunity returned.

I wanted Brady Quinn so, so much. I think he's really one of those guys where had he gone to a better team and sat on the bench for a little bit, his career would have been so much better. That doesn't mean he'd have suceeded in Miami, given the crap show that he would have walked into though.

That game vs Buffalo in 2008 was by far his most productive on offense as a Dolphin. Here are the highlights. It wasn't exactly a thing of beauty, despite the yardage. He just never looked natural catching the ball and running routes.

Yeah, after a pretty good first two years in the league, he had a really lousy third season and before he was fired mid season, Dick Jauron gave the starting job to Fred Jackson, who was less of a headcase. Then when Chan got the job the next year, he drafted Spiller to pair with Jackson, and shipped Lynch to Seattle after the season's first month.

In 2009 and 2010, Jackson was the better player, and Lynch looked like he might be cooked. He had an OK year in Seattle after being traded, but nothing special, with two games of 80+ yards as a high. But then Seattle won their division despite going 7-9, hosted the 11-5 Saints, and Lynch ran for 131 yards as they upset them in what's become a famous game. Had he not done that, or had the Rams won in Seattle in Week 17 to take the division instead, who knows what might have happened afterwards for both Lynch and the Seahawks.

Fun bonus Dolphins facts: That season the Rams top two receivers were future Dolphins Danny Amendola and Brandon Gibson. And back in Buffalo, Ryan Fitzpatrick took over as the Bills starting QB at the exact same point that Lynch was traded away. The Bills new defensive coordinator that season was former Dolphins LB coach George Edwards, who had been with the Fins from 2005-2009. The Bills D gave up at least 34 points in five straight games as they started the season 0-8. As the Bills were constantly trailing, Fitzpatrick was able to throw the ball all game long, piling up garbage stats, and endearing himself to Gailey. It might have saved his career, as he was in his sixth season and hadn't played a whole lot up to that point. So in a round about way, Lynch and Edwards helped lead Fitzpatrick eventually to the Dolphins himself.

As for Matt Moore, longest NFL career or longest career as back up in Miami. If you meant the latter, I believe that distinction goes to Don Strock

You're absolutely correct. Brain fart on my part. I sometimes space on the backups and role players that played before my time. I think that a while back, I looked up to find that Moore had spent the most seasons of anyone other than Marino since he had been drafted, and mixed that up with my other remark. Here's the list of most seasons spent on the Dolphins by quarterbacks.

    Dan Marino 17
    Bob Griese 14
    Don Strock 14
    Ryan Tannehill 7
    Matt Moore 7
    Earl Morrall 5
    Jay Fiedler 5
    David Woodley 4
    Chad Henne 4
    John Stofa 4
    Sage Rosenfels 4
