The Dolphins are going to be without their for-now starting quarterback, and they’re looking at some reinforcements. According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Dolphins coach Brian Flores said Ryan Fitzpatrick would not practice today for personal reasons. Flores declined to elaborate on the reason for the absence. The Dolphins brought Jake Rudock in for a workout Thursday. He was on their practice squad last year but was cut prior to the start of camp. He’d need to pass the COVID-19 tests to sign, and if Fitzpatrick’s absence is beyond a day or so, they’d need the extra arm since they only have three quarterbacks on the roster (along with Tua Tagovailoa and Josh Rosen).
Maybe people here still think he can win the starting quarterback spot and be a Pro Bowler like Luke Falk.
Okay, that's beyond strange to say the least. First and foremost, I hope Fitzpatrick doesn't have a loved one who's hurt or seriously ill...but something must be going on for them to immediately fill his roster spot. That tells me that this won't be a 1-day thing.
Yikes!!!! Tagovailoa completed six of 15 passes for 99 yards with two interceptions. Rosen completed six of 14 throws, for 104 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Tagovailoa was sacked once, and Rosen was sacked three times.
No doubt. That first round draft pick had better step up!! In all fairness though...Tagovailoa was 16.5 per completion and Rosen was 17.3 per completion. They do move the ball but they really need to make more completions. Sub 50% completion percentage against your own team is terrible!!!
Yea, and??? I expect and demand perfection. When you’re being paid millions of dollars to play a game, then you better play your part perfectly...especially when all eyes are on you as the heir apparent. I’ll give Tagovailoa the benefit of the doubt being a rookie but seeing how much capital was spent on him, I’ll be just as critical of him as I was Tannehill...and will equally praise when praise is warranted
Between Tua being a rookie and all the Covid imposed difficulties that are shortening the offseason, I wouldn't expect much from him to start the season. But hopefully he shows the promise that made us draft him, and improves as the year goes along. Wonder what's happened with Fitz - he doesn't seem the kind of guy to just drop out unless something happened. Hopefully he and his family are alright. The obvious guess is something related to a Covid scare or similar. I didn't think he would stay as our QB the whole season. His history didn't inspire confidence that he can play at a sustained high level. However, he seems like a good teacher of the game and an excellent resource for a young QB to learn from. Barring his return, I would guess Flores will let Rosen and Tua duke it out. Rudock was garbage.
Yeah, 2020 will be a totally fair season to judge a rookie QB. No rookie camp. Watered down training camp. No preseason. Maybe not even a full season. Hold your horses pal.
I did say I would give Tagovailoa the benefit of the doubt, didn’t I? Pretty sure I did... Scrolling back up... Yep, there it is!!!
Demanding perfection under these current circumstances is...a little weird....Ya know what? Maybe weird is the wrong term. More like unrealistic.
Not sure if it's his view and it probably isnt and I wouldnt try to speak for him but... A person can demand perfection outwardly and still inwardly know it's not likely. The pursuit of the perfection itself is never realized but the demand for it creates a constant improvement. If it's an environment suitable for the types of people involved which is a whole different subject. As odd as perfection sounds from a fan, I doubt Flores is out there like "Its cool if you guys screw up this year"
It's not. Ask any Navy Chief when he or she has got you in a corner chewing your tookus because of a mistake.
You were a Navy Chief...I was an Army Platoon Sergeant. Both of us E7s. Both of us cannibalistic seeing the amount of *** we both chewed over our careers! Folks like you and I know that “good enough” is NEVER good enough. In our careers, “good enough” resulted in our people in a body bag, not a dropped touchdown pass. This is why you and I understand the need for and demand perfection
Didn't mean to mislead... I was on the receiving end of the chewing as a brand new seaman in the radio shack. Then he turned around and chewed the watch section leader for not following up behind a rookie. Neither of us made THAT mistake again, nor did I when I gained some rank and became a watch section leader myself. Thankfully, that chief also caught me doing something relatively exceptional and complimented me with a written "Bravo Zulu" for my record when it was done. "Bravo Zulu" is the flag signal for "Well Done." It had to do with climbing the mast to replace an antenna and I HATE heights.
