I'd honestly be fine with just taking the clock down to halftime. Go in and adjust, flip field position and get going.
And if that pick Fitz just threw had been at our 8? I don't care about messages. I care about probability and winning.
No, I don't think you do. I think you care about being conservative. That doesn't win you games against new england, especially with how they've been moving the ball against us. If we stay conservative (and really, we did on that march downfield up to that INT) and punt it, they've got great field position and are taking another 3 or 7 on us likely. It was irresponsible from Fitzpatrick, not a poor decision by the coaching staff to try and score. That's the point of the damn game.
Buffalo is curb stomping the Jests. Doesn't bode well for next week, would be great to get a win today to avoid the possibility of an 0-2 hole. On the plus side, Gase is Gasing, Darnold is bad and that entire team is a dumpster fire.
Mind you the patriots are doing this with their second and third unit defense, with all the offseason opt outs. Fotzpatrick is just bad.
Remember the Fitz MO - as soon as he has any real expectation, he collapses. Hopefully he can keep on track and let the playmakers make plays.
Missed it!! Fitzy got away with one there, but he cost us some potential points with that bonehead throw
Not a bad half overall. Down 4, defense only gave up 7. Offense just needs to do something and Fitz needs to stop turning it over
You also dont win in NE by running a hurry up 2 minute drill when you've been crapping the bed all game and have no momentum or consistency. Always trying to throw a punch is the easiest way to get yourr teerh knocked out in a fight. There are times you need to maintain and times to be aggressive. Also being in NE means nothing in this context, the stadium is empty they have no advantage. In the end we did exactly what I thought we would, give them points, luckily they missed. Obviously based on our personnel and situation I called it right. Dont be angry that exactly what I thought would happen and tried to protect us from, happened up to the missed FG.
So far the players of the half... Gaskin on offense Wilkins on defense least valuable player of the half goes to Fitzpatrick.
Anyway, getting back to the game, Fitz is pretty awful today. He obviously gets more than one game because Tua IMO isnt and couldnt possibly be ready.
That interception he threw was just awful. I rewatched it again and i dont know what he was looking, did the beard Get in the way of his vision.. i dont know.. it was just an awful throw.. awful.
Unfortunately the game is 7-3 so he will be here all game unless god forbid he gets injured which i would never wish on him. Had we been facing Brady I think this game would be 28-3 by now and we would see Tua in the fourth..
QBs tend to hit a brick wall at about this age. It isn't a gradual decline -- it's an immediate stop.
OK You really didn't. We called that drive so conservatively. That was no aggressive 2 minute drill there and guess what, it ended up in an INT not because we tried to drive down the field, but because our QB made a terrible throw. If we don't "try" and end up a 3 and out and punting, guess what... They likely get the ball at the same spot and still end up with a FG try. There's really nothing to argue here, nor is there a reason for you to claim "victory" either. You wanted to run the clock out though IIRC, that's exactly the WRONG thing to do IMO with 2 mintues on the clock in a 4 point game, week 1 with a young team. You need to send the message you aren't backing down. Which is what the team just did. They call conservative plays, moved the ball and if not for a boneheaded play by the QB we're likely the ones kicking the FG. The end of that drive isn't on the coaches, or the decision they made to TRY to move the ball and get points, it's 150% on the QB for a stupid decision/throw. That's only you ending up "right" because of a dumb play from Fitz nothing else. If he doesn't throw the INT and we get points... then what? Becuase that's what we were on pace for until his stupid decision. So yes, you're still wrong IMO Anwyays, there's no sense in arguing this anyways.
You're right about Gaskins. What a pleasant surprise. Running hard, finishing, good hands and got that critical 1st on the sideline. Howard has been trash so far tho.
I wanted Gaskin here since his sophmore year with the Huskies, even posted about him back then here on the forums.. when we drafted him, i was so happy because the kid was such a beast in college And it was such a high value pick we did. I knew then what he was capable of.. He runs strong all the time and hes very shifty. Reminds me of Sproles.
