Hello, thePhins.com. I've been a Dolphins fan since my brother found an unwrapped electric football board under Mom and Dad's closet in November 1971. Because we live in Central Ohio, the home team on the board was the Cleveland Browns and the visitors were the Dolphins, a team I never heard of. I was still a fan of the original NFL teams and wasn't really interested in any of the merger teams.

"I got the Browns!!" I yelled, calling dibs on my father's favorite team.

"Take them, they're not good. I want Miami," he calmly told me as I realized that I didn't really want the Browns after all. I'll be honest, I never heard of the Dolphins until that moment and I decided I'd watch them closely. And I loved what I saw. They got spanked by Dallas in the Super Bowl, but I was already hooked. My first favorite football team!

Of course, the next two seasons set the hook and for better or worse, I've been a Fin Fan ever since. Paul Warfield became my favorite football player. Followed by Kiick, Morris, Csonka, Anderson, Fernandez, Griese, Yepremian and etc and et.al and them. Stuck with them through some great seasons and a not-so-great century and at this point, it's way too late to find another team to root for.

But it's all good because we're set up for a great run for the next decade. My hope springs every new season. But as much as a realist as I try to be, things are looking good. I'm hoping Grier and Co. don't try to do too much too soon. This season is not the one I've been waiting for, that's next year. Don't get me wrong, I want to win every game and the Super Bowl now. But with a year of this soup simmering and the players we're adding next year, I'll be upset if we're not dominant.

Anyway, sorry for the autobiography. Glad to find a respectful place to talk Dolphins football and I look forward to hanging out with you for years.

    Peace out,
    OwesOwn614

Welcome to the forum! There's many here that watched those early 70's games and talk about the team's greatness...I was born in '73 so I hopped on the bandwagon later in life.

I've told the story a number of times but once more, I was 13 and my Dad took me to the first ever practice of the Miami Dolphins back in '66! Since then if you prick my finger my blood flows aqua and orange. Welcome aboard.

PS, I'm up in the NW corner of Ohio, Defiance!
