Howard just got up and celebrated with the "incomplete" ref motion, not seeing that Conley actually caught the ball. Embarassing.

Next play... Howard with the INT. Redemption.

Celebrating... Howard acts as if he may have hurt the knee again. Potentially Stupid.

Good to see them win a game against Jax. They always give us trouble.

Good win, good to see us handle a team that we actually out-talented.

Seattle is going to be rough, hard to see a victory in that one, but two straight good offensive performances, and a mostly good defensive job.

When you allow yourself to be psyched out by a tough opponent then you've already lost. Seattle has a tough game with Dallas before we see them. Hopefully they'll be a little dinged up while the Phins will be rested and ready. San Fran is already dinged up. Both of these games are within reach.

I think it's great the team won and won in the fashion it did. However, I wouldn't ascribe too much meaning to it because I suspect they were facing an emotionally depleted team, having played a barn burner down to the wire just four days prior.

This team's primary weakness right now in my view is its youth and inexperience, not only in general but with each other, given the extreme personnel turnover of the past two years. When they face an emotionally resolute team, they're going to have trouble matching that level of intensity as a team, because the emotional bonds among the players necessary for that "communication" of energy among them just aren't there. Playing an emotionally depleted team was just what the doctor ordered for them.

As I've said before, it doesn't matter if you win by 1 point, or if you win by 10 touchdowns. Winning is winning and the Dolphins pulled off a great win last night. It was just the shot of confidence this young team needed that not only can they win, they can win big indeed with their 31-13 victory over the Jaguars last night.

As great as the win was for the team and we Dolphins fans, let's take a look at the good and the bad...

Not only was Ryan Fitzpatrick great last night, he was on fire! He finished the night 18/20 for 160 yards, 2 TDs as well as 1 rushing TD and while those particular numbers may not seem barnstorming, what was barnstorming was his 11 for 11 for 123 yards and 2 TD's. That's 11 straight completions behind an offensive line with 3 rookies in Robert Hunt, Austin Jackson and Solomon Kindley.

Miami's investigation if you will to determine who their premier running back is seemed to be solved last night with Miles Gaskin carrying the bulk of Miami's 31 called rushing plays with 22 attempts for 66 yards. Now while those numbers in itself are anything but marquee worthy, what is marquee worthy was the fact the Dolphins were not giving up on the run.

    -Miami's opening drive...
    1st-10: Pass 7 yards
    2nd-3: Run 9 yards
    1st-10: Pass 20 yards
    1st-10: Run 5 yards
    2nd-5: Run 6 yards
    1st-10: Pass 19 yards
    1st-10: Run 7 yards
    2nd-3: Run 2 yards
    3rd-1: Run 4 yards
    1st-Goal: Run 2 yards
    2nd-Goal: Run 0 yards
    3rd-Goal: Pass 3 yards, TD

That's 4 passes and 8 runs; a 12 play drive that forced the Jacksonville defense to endure a 7:58 drive that grinded them into the ground. Miami was particularly effective on 1st Down gaining 7, 20, 5, 19, 7 and 2 yards (1st/goal) per first down attempts. As a result of their 1st Down effectiveness, the Dolphins faced 3rd down only twice on their opening drive, needing only 1 and 3 yards respectively.

Won't go into as deep of breakdowns on subsequent possessions (that'll make the post too long) but the Dolphins following drives...

Second possession: 6 plays, 60 yards: 2 passes, 4 rushes including a 29 yard run by Grant. Again, Miami committing to the run and at this point Miami had 6 passes and 12 rushes.

    Third possession: 11 plays, 70 yards: 5 passes and 6 rushes including facing a 1st and 20 that was converted on a 4th and 1 by Fitzpatrick with a qb designed run. On this drive, Miami wasn't particularly effective on 1st down; facing 2nd & 9, 10 and 8 yards and also face 3rd down & 8, 6 and 5 yards and a 4th & 1 conversion.

With 1:10 left in the first half, Miami in my opinion foolishly abandoned the run all together to try and score quickly before the half and went 3 and out on 3 pass plays with Fitzpatrick going 1 of 3 for 4 yards.

The second half offensively, Miami's overly conservative play calling was quite frustrating. Ineffective and very vanilla runs right up the middle to a clogged defensive line. If not for Minshew's fumble that gave Miami the ball on the 5 yard line and resulted in Miami's final touchdown to essentially put the nail in the coffin for Jacksonville, the Jags may have indeed had more opportunities. Miami had 3 punts in the second half and drives that consisted of 36, 2, -1, 21, 2 and 16 yards.

Offensively, the Dolphins had better start playing a full 60 minutes and not coast on first half leads.

Defensively, the Dolphins defense collectively played well. Miami needs to work on are allowing big plays on 1st downs as Jacksonville in the first half on 1st down had big plays of 24, 10, 16, 11 and 9 yards. They sacked Minshew 4 times, a forced fumble recovered and intercepted him towards the end of the game. A much better performance than the two priors weeks.

I'm glad they won. They beat the Jaguars. We already have a guy in this thread saying the Seattle and San Francisco games are in reach.

Bad news is Miami is going to be 1-4. They aren't touching Seattle, a team whom they matchup horribly against. And, they aren't going into San Francisco and winning no matter what kind of team they have out there.

See what happens when we label game-day threads as ***OFFICIAL***?!??

Don't mess this stuff up Galant- there's too much at stake for the rest of the season and I was serious abut starting a petition! Heck, I already have 3 or 4 signatures in the works...and it doesn't matter that I bribed them with free alcohol!

The revolution has started....RAAAAHHHHH! So you'd better straighten up, buttercup! LOL!

Playing well against Seattle is not all that far fetched. The last time we played them we lost 12-10, hardly a blow-out. That was pretty much their SB team when their defense was dominant. We were in Gase's rookie season and the team still had the overpowering stench of Philbin. On paper the score should have been a lot more lopsided but, it wasn't. Today's Seahawk D is a shadow of that team. Some people might stain their Fruit of the Looms at the thought of Russel Wilson coming to town but, I doubt anybody on the Dolphins is intimidated.

Well, Seattle is going to a very tough one. No doubt. Of course there's the any given Sunday thing, but yeah, I know Seattle is a tough matchup. I think most of us thought that heading into the season. However, there is now a decent chance we beat San Fran. Before the injuries, I saw that as another very tough one on the schedule, but they are decimated. They don't have their starting QB. Bosa is out. That's huge, bro. That certainly changes the matchup. If we play well, we definitely have a good shot to take that one.

If you want Key, I'll start the ***Official*** thread next week. I'm not going to be like a past poster who just HAD to be the one to start the next thread as soon as the the current game was over...What an idiot he was.

Anyhow, I'll start it next week. Already puling up the significant info on the game.

I was just having fun with it...that ex-poster (a year or two before your time) was adamant about making ***OFFICIAL*** threads about everything and he'd 100% lose it if anyone else did it before him. It got so bad to the point that nobody would post in the ***OFFICIAL*** threads just to see him have an absolute meltdown...he'd scream at me & others in PM's that we were posting in the wrong place.

He'd literally have me crying it was so funny...but eventually he was banned for "going postal" on other members in truly epic fashion. But then we'd all feel confused when there weren't ***OFFICIAL*** game threads anymore, so it kind of became a tradition to have them ever since.

Why'd we lose the first two games? Because Galant broke the tradition! LOL!

    You know, I wonder...

What is the statistical correlation to causation divided by the co-efficient multipled by pi squared In determining Dolphins victories when I start the game day thread in relation to those others who do?

Undefined at the moment. Correlation is not defined when sample size is 1 (because variance is not defined when N=1).

I wouldn't push your luck too much though. The Dolphins aren't expected to end up with a winning record, meaning that the correlation between wins and official game threads you start is likely to end up negative. A more strategic thinker would have started making official game threads NEXT year and asked the same question.

Or, that strategic thinker would blame the management for not making "Official" threads....which led to the losing season this year. That was actually my strategy all along- I was bluffing on the petition and the class-action lawsuits. =)

So this year, correlation = 1 is just fine in my book. LOL

lol.. the math is "quit while you're ahead"!!

Anyway, a lesson in small sample size. The 95% confidence interval (the interval that with 95% probability contains the "true" percent probability that your official game day thread will lead to a Dolphins win) for 4 out of 5 correct is:

    [37.55% to 96.38%]

So at this moment it's still possible that 4 out of 5 correct is just due to random variation and the "true" probability is a measly 37.55% lol. Or maybe it's 96.38%!

I'm sorry but,, there's more going on than simple math or the rigid laws of science.
Where does the sock go that disappears in the dryer?
When you drop a garden hose nozzle on the ground, why does it always land on the handle resulting in you getting soaked?
I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it.
"There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area we call the Phin Zone."

The race to make the game thread FIRST was hilarious at one time! I didn't even try to make one but there was a lot of members on game day such as a Jets game when Deb was still with us. I believe it was Henne threw a sweet bomb to Ginn for a touchdown that just took the air out of the Jets. Was a lot of trash talk between a coach and our players before hand.

Oh wow, I haven't thought about Miss Debbie in years! She was such a sweet old gal.

I wonder what ever happened to her family- does anyone know? She let her son build a modular home on their family homestead and they used a few acres of land as collateral (I want to say they were on 20 acres total? Can't remember exactly but it was a good chunk of property). But the son lost his job years later and the bank said that the acreage wasn't stated on the original guarantee....meaning that they were trying to take the modular home, Deb's house and all their property in foreclosure. Her family home had been debt free for generations and I know she was devastated...I'm thinking she passed before we heard the end of all that.

Last I heard, they were trying to fight it in court but she was also looking for an apartment as well...it's just one of the saddest stories I've ever heard in my life. She was so happy, kind and loving...it really broke my heart for her and it's a shame that stuff like GoFundMe wasn't around back then.
