Gase: I'M THE PLAYCALLER! ME! ME! ME! ME!

    Staff: Whatever

That is how I imagine it going.

Is there any chance that the Jets FO is actually convinced that Gase is the right guy? They made him the GM as well as the HC, are they now allowing him to tear down the roster (not worrying about this year) and letting him have at least one year where he can make all the moves, the picks, trades, etc. ?

Replying to @Finatik from a quote he put in the Game Day thread here:

    "From PFT:

Jets head coach Adam Gase opened the week musing about the possibility that he would give up his role as the offensive playcaller after an 0-5 start to the season. Gase ultimately didn’t go that route. He said on Wednesday that he will remain in the role after conversations with members of the coaching staff about the problems on offense.

One might wonder if assistant coaches might tell their boss what they think he wants to hear, but offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said on Thursday that isn’t the case. Loggains said “the staff would have no problem telling the boss” that his play calls were an issue and that he believes the issue lies elsewhere.

“Our issues on offense are bigger than playcalling right now. It comes down to execution,” Loggains said, via Zach Braziller of the New York Post. “It comes down to making sure your guys are in the right spots. Whoever calls the plays isn’t [himself] converting on third-and-1, isn’t converting the fourth-and-1 last week in the game. Those are things that come down to details.”"

Let's assume that's true and that Gase's offense doesn't work because players aren't executing. The only sane question to ask next is 'why'.
Fault A - The players are poor and can't execute.
Fault B - The players can do it but aren't doing it.
    B.1 They lack motivation.
B.2 The're disobedient and just want to 'freelance'.
    B.3 There's a culture of poor discipline.
Fault C - The offense is such that it simply won't ever work because it's too 'fragile' - it's too easy for someone to do something wrong.
Fault D - Gase and/or his coaches don't know how to teach the offense to the players.

There are probably others but those seem like the most obvious possible problems, at least to start with.

Fault A - Less likely since the problem has followed Gase away from Miami and into New York.
Fault D - Possibly, but the odds on none of them getting it seems slim.

    I'm going for a combination of B and C.
Gase's offense works in theory, in his head, but won't translate to the field for whatever reason, and Gase doesn't lead his players well. He may simply expect them to operate like machines, doing their job perfectly, no mistakes, same consistency. Perhaps professionals should be like that, but they're all young men, human beings. Leadership can make a huge difference.

Gregg Williams deserved to be fired for such an asinine call! ESPN put up a stat this morning...

    Going back to 2006...
251 pass attempts of 40 yards or more with :15 or less left in the game.

No team had ever rushed more than 6 players.

Williams rushed 7, leaving single man coverage

    Idiot!

No, Gregg Williams has always been a very aggressive DC. Anyone forget about the Bounty scandal when he was DC in New Orleans? It was just the WRONG call at the WRONG time. 3rd and 10, :15 left in the game, 50 yards to go to the endzone and you call an all out blitz?

Love the intensity and sticking to your guns, but that was the wrong call!

Yeah it was a terrible call. Especially as a winless team on the brink of victory. There was no need to take such a crazy chance.

End of the first half I could, in theory, accept it as trying to create a momentum play. In the 4th with a lead why the hell would you ever call that?

Jets are currently beating the Rams 13-3. If they can somehow move down to the second spot in the draft and miss out on Lawrence that will cap off the perfect season for them.

Ooh, Rams' TE Higbee with the Madden spin move and big run! Nice play. Can the Rams help the Jets get back on track?

Ooh, and holding call erases a Rams TD and now we're looking at a fumble with the Jets earning possession - pending a challenge call from Gase.

    Remember folks - penalties matter!

One vital first down and the hero, Frank Gore, gives the Jets their first, and worst, win of the season.

The guys was dynamite for them all game long.
