There's simply no way this is true. # 1, we'd have no backup. #2, Fitz is the soul of this team and Tua still needs him. #3, It's just plain stupid to try to trade someone who's on the verge of retiring. I'm guessing Fitz would say "No Thanks" and just head home for the rest of the season.
Not happening unless someone offers a bounty of picks. There is no good option for backup quarterback this late in the season.
It would be a mistake due to the fact we cut Rosen and dont have a legitimate backup. I get that you dont expect Tua to get hurt, but noone expects their QB to go down.
This would be the STUPIDEST thing the Dolphins can do. Fitz has been a mentor to Tagovailoa and Tua PRAISES Fitz...saying he's learned so much from him. Not just that, but the entire locker room LOVES Fitz. He's a leader. Getting rid of Fitz now would be idiotic!!!!!!!!!!!
Trading a player on a one year (hell 1/2 year contract) and getting something like a 3rd or 4th round pick would be awesome. As much as I like Fitz, he's gone at the end of the year. If he's going to ride the bench, fleece Jerry while he's still alive. Which might not be too much longer.
Unless it's a 2nd round pick or higher (which obviously wouldn't happen) Fitz is too valuable to this team, even as the backup. Tua loves Fitz.
Trade him hell no, extend him? Hell ya! Give him a fat check to be Tuas Don Strock for 2 more years. Help this young offense grow and get him a ring before he retires a Phin and rides off to get ready for a long life of grand babies. Trade Fitz? child please...
Honestly would be all time stupid to trade Fitzpatrick and those insiders who thought about it should be ashamed of their lazy speculation. what are the Dolphins going to get for an ancient journeyman quarterback who’s started on every team in the NFL twice? A 7th round pick? What kind of value is that for a guy who has been a mentor to Tua, knows Gailey’s offense and still has a lot more to teach Tua? the trade is not happening. And to anyone who thinks Ryan Fitzpatrick is going to lead Dallas to the playoffs, god youre ****ing dumb. What is that even accomplishing for Dallas? Oh great, youre a 5-11 team in the playoffs with a terrible defense and an overpaid “superstar” running back that fumbles the ball every down. Also let me not even get into it much about Andy Dalton vs Ryan Fitzpatrick. Im taking Andy, period.
I actually see us re-signing Ryan Fitzpatrick. 2 years 8 million. A backup quarterback is so valuable. And when Fitzpatrick decides to hang it up; I wouldnt be shocked if he lands a role in Flores’ coaching staff.
Honestly, while we do need to see Tua and I'm glad we will....Fitz did nothing to really deserve losing his job. We just won back to back games by 20+ points and the offense has been a bright spot overall for most of the year. Even as a fan I feel weird about the timing of this change.
Three days ago, I posted in another thread that I couldn't wait for the eventual Tua-time. Yet when I heard the news today, my mind immediately went to Fitz and all that he's done to transform this organization. Because when you really think about it, he's been just as instrumental as Flores or Grier. This is HIS TEAM. My heart breaks for the dude, I wish I could send him a gift basket or something that would actually matter (obviously it wouldn't). Because the truth is, as of today, I just do not want Tua-Time anymore....not right now. We all knew it was coming but I never imagined that I would dread it this much. It feels like we betrayed Fitz in some strange way and I'm just not okay with it right now.
Oh man, no way...he's the cog that made the wheel roll. Do you know how truly awful we were last year and how much fun he had holding all the pieces together? He's a top 10 QB in the league at the moment....that's not someone you demote and then throw to the media a few hours later. I have all the respect in the world for the guy and he deserved better. What he said was truly from the heart and it's the front office's fault for letting this leak. He should have been given a day or two to process it before dealing with media and hot takes, but I'm glad that he said what he said. It was raw, honest and that's how he felt in the moment.
That is just an excuse. He is getting paid good money to do a job. He didn't do a good job at his job.
Well, he's also an NFL top-10 quarterback...hard to say he didn't do his job. Plus he has a great beard.
I dont see how you can look at our roster this season and last, his performance, and say he hasnt done his job.
First question I ask myself is, "would Bill O'Brian trade him away in this scenario?" I believe that answer is yes, so the Dolphins won't do it.
Surprisingly, this is something that I would actually consider. I do think that he has a great relationship with Tua. That being said, I do not think that it is a guarantee that Fitz will be back next year. I would not be shocked for a second if another team signs him as a bridge QB for a year or a team with a questionable starter signs him as a contingency option. Could he call it a career? Possibly. I just would not be working that a guy not under contract would be back next year. I would love to have him back, but I know that the NFL is a business. Fitz, of all people, knows that the NFL is a business. If he has an opportunity elsewhere, and he takes it, I would not resent him at all. 5 Dallas seems to be a mess, but oddly, are still in playoff contention. If they were to offer a reasonable draft pick. A conditional 6th round that could become a 5, I think we should do it. Furthermore, I think we kinda owe it to him to let him start if someone would be willing to give him that chance.
I think the issue is that a 5th or 6th round pick basically has no value. Especially if it's beyond the very early 5th. I'd rather have his continued leadership for a year than an empty pick that probably ends up providing less long term value than Fitz on the bench for half a year more.
Usually, I would agree with these sentiments. 5th or 6th round players usually tend to be irrelevant. We have ten draft picks next year, but with all the talent that we brought in last year, I do not think that we should be drafting 10 players. I think next year's draft, we need to start targeting players. It was a fair criticism that we did not move up and snag Cesar Ruiz, a center that the Dolphins coveted. I say we target 10 guys that we really, really want to get in the draft, move up and grab them. I think next year is the time to be aggressive. The foundation of this roster has been built. I agree that Fitz has leadership skills. But how much leadership are we really getting from the sidelines? I think it is Tua's team. There can only be one captain. I really think that leadership has never been an issue with Tua. I think we will be fine there.
For all intents and purposes, Ryan Fitzpatrick is now our QB coach. Tua trusts him & looks up to him, and they'll be going over every series from the sidelines throughout the game. Don't underestimate the value of that....its a massive benefit for a rookie QB. Plus, if we do somehow trade Fitz, now we need a legit backup to Tua. Who do we get that's better than Fitz? Remember, he just led two blowout games in a row (and 3 out of 4). That's not an easy feat and it simply does not make a bit of sense in my book. I have a feeling that if we try to trade Fitzpatrick, he retires mid-season and walks away. Miami won't take that scathing press in a move that dumb....it just makes zero sense.
Everyone is different, but personally I think there is a lot to be said for having a guy to go to with questions who isnt your coach, aka boss. Not that you shouldnt be asking coaches questions obviously, but I just think its useful to have an intelligent and experienced person who actually does what you do to bounce thoughts and questions off of.
